this is Spinal Tap!

all my work is done, and I am not sure that I have ever seen this before, so I bought it, and now I am going to light a fire, burn one, and enjoy the flick.

See you tomorrow.

Well, I really like every other Christopher Guest film I have seen (Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind), so I am pretty sure I will enjoy this as well

wow - thats cool - i was a spinal tap fan back when it first came out when i was 20 - being a musician made it even more enjoyable - and have been a fan of those guys since

guest was also a member of SNL when billy crystal and martin short were on too - many memorable skits/characters and most were ad libbed, whcih is how guest does most of his movies

theres another cool show you might wanna check out called "dont get me started" which was a billy crystal special for HBO - guest is doing a character named chip dementebella which later became corky in waiting for guffman - classic stuff

STONE HEDGE - In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, an ancient race of people... the Druids. No one knows who they were or what they were doing...

**********

David St. Hubbins: I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem *may* have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being *crushed* by a *dwarf*. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object.

Ian Faith: I really think you're just making much too big a thing out of it.

Derek Smalls: Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea.

***

Ian Faith: Nigel gave me a drawing that said 18 inches. Now, whether or not he knows the difference between feet and inches is not my problem. I do what I'm told.

David St. Hubbins: But you're not as confused as him are you. I mean, it's not your job to be as confused as Nigel.

**

Derek Smalls: Can I raise a practical question at this point? Are we gonna do "Stonehenge" tomorrow?

David St. Hubbins: *NO*, we're not gonna fucking do "Stonehenge"!

My stomach hurt so much from laughing at that scene the first time I saw it. It might be the hardest I've laughed in my life.

One of the funniest movies ever made... not often you get Christopher Guest, Michael McKean (aka Lenny as in Lenny and Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley) and Harry Shearer (who does all the voices on the Simpsons that aren't the four main speaking characters and guest voices)... Plus there are so many brilliant cameos (look for Paul Schaffer's cameo, he's great...)

Well, to be honest, the first time I spent most of my time trying to recognize who was in the later flicks. I ended up falling asleep before it was over.

I tried watching it again, and fell asleep again. I think next time I will just listen to it in the background while I am working.

I do have a question though. A Mighty Wind and Best in Show was all improvised as far as the dialog. Was it the same for Spinal Tap? ome parts I thought it was, others I wasn't quite sure.

It was obvious that the pairs that have worked together over the years have definitely honed their skills.

yea, most of it was improved - there are scenes where you can really tell, one is in the hotel lobby after having some trouble with the rooms - after david says "at the hotel?" you hear laughter and ians face and reaction is obvious

Ian Faith: I've got a small bit of bad news.
Derek Smalls: Makes a change doesn't it.
Ian Faith: We've been cancelled here.
David St. Hubbins: At the hotel?
Ian Faith: No. The gig is cancelled.

rob reiner directed tap - then soon after started his own production/film company called castle rock, which all the films guest has directed were produced and released by.

if you can ever find a copy of the billy crystal HBO special "dont get me started" reiner, guest, eugene levy (of american pise fame and star and co writer of all the guest directed films) and crystal do some serious improve - really fucking funny - crystal does sammy davis better than anyone and theres an old comedian named brother theodore who's interaction with sammy is fucking hilarious.

i had a copy but a friend i lent it too taped over it - i almost killed him because of it.

Nigel Tufnel: You know, just simple lines intertwining, you know, very much like - I'm really influenced by Mozart and Bach, and it's sort of in between those, really. It's like a Mach piece, really. It's sort of...
