Is Osama bin Laden the most influential man on earth?

Keep in mind, he likely lives in a cave.

Quote:
Crude oil jumped $1.47 to $68.30 a barrel as traders worried about the latest Osama bin Laden tapes and ongoing concerns about a possible cutoff of supplies from Iran.

I would have to agree I read his books The 7 habits of highly effective terrorists, and Rich Terrorist / Poor Terrorist and they really changed my life.

I also bought his DVD on internet businesses, and I am now able to make over $200K a year only working 4 hours a day. Mainly selling porcelain puppies on eBay, but it was his marketing techniques that enabled me to become a power seller.

He just had me change simple things like adding the text..."BUY IT NOW OR I WILL BOMB YOUR HOUSE" to my listings and sales went up 1000%.

Hiding in a cave and methodically juggling the world economy.

Pretty much at will.

Really crazy when you think about it.

Funny haha

Are you mocking in disagreement? I never said he "is," I posed the question for debate.

Hard to say he does not have influence. I realize he represents "evil" and we represent "good," but you just can't ignore what chaos he can bring by releasing a tape.

Is there an election coming? Last we heard from this clown was on the eve of our last presidential elections. I think he has been assigned influence in the west. Clearly, Iraq attacked us on Sept. 11th.

He is extremely methodical and very patient. I think he just waited for US Presidential support to begin a heavy decline. He is fueling public disruption, etc.

Zaqarwi(sp) is not his style, that guy hasn't the patience, nor the influence. IMO.

on a more serious note - if you're judging someone's influence by how they can change the oil price, there are others who can move the oil price just as easily.

if you examine the overall influence of Osama though - from elections around the world, to the billions spent on airport security, it's fair to say he's changed the world more than most

Agreed.

He is not the most powerful man on earth, but it makes for a solid debate (usually).

Well done

On topic, at least he puts things in prespective when the richest and most powerfull country in the world can't get their hands on him no matter how hard they try.

He's probably one of the top 10 people in the world who can move oil prices - infact if he was smart, he'd have an oil futures trading account, he could buy futures contracts when his videos are released - and fully pimp out his cave

Right --

AQ didn't have that tape on the proverbial "shelf" for months and it's realese had nothing to do with showing force, i.e. CIA strike in Pakistan.

He was waiting for presidential support to begin a heavy decine??? Didn't that happen 6-8-12 months ago???

Are you people really this dense?

Osama knows that he doesnt have to attack with planes or bombs anymore..

He can fire off a few video tapes, get people freaked out in the Economic markets and the waves ripple back longer. He's peddling fear more than action anymore.

The man's playing the world for a fool.

Influence can be interpretted in a multitude of ways IMO.

But again, I am not very smart.

Cory - world traveler - how many times last year did OBL influence your life?

I've been out of the coutry half a dozen times in the last year and flown across the coutry more than that in the last six months... and my wait times are NO longer than pre-9/11.

Maybe some of us didn't travel much before 2001.

I think you are taking the term "influence" out of connatation. I am not "adhering to lifestyles based on an idea of evil," I am talking about the money we spend on "defending" out nation. The economic tolls his tapes take.

Wait times are known to be longer in the US. Not so much in other countries.

I agree - in fact, I worked at the ATL airport in addition to taking at least one plane trip a week for several years in the late 1980's and early 1990's and waits are actually shorter now than they were. I used to love being able to wave my "employee pass" and walking past the others.

After 9/11 there were longer lines and delays but that was rectified within a few months. If anything, the "influence" was a good one - the airlines finally started taking security seriously. Other countries took it seriously long before 2001.

Jeez I hate not being able to quote people without having to do it all manually...LOL

GFY is still f'd up for me.

Anyway to touch on what Broke just said...BinLaden hasn't necessarily influenced my life specifically, but that does not mean he does not have influence.

He has influenced 1,000's..sorry 10's of 1,000's of people's lives across this country. His actions on 9/11 and subsequent ramblings there after have made many people fearful. That's how terrorism works. They don't really have to do anything, just the threat of it and it affects the way some people live their daily lives.

Are those who are living scared silly for doing so? I'm sure we'd all agree that they are but they still live scared.

This is why things like the patriot act still go unquestioned by a large part of the population. This is why when people hear about eavesdropping there is still a good portion of people who say things like..."if you aren't doing anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about." "I'd rather be safe than sorry."

So yes, Bin Laden has had influence on a great many people and their pocket books.

Honestly, I respect your opinion, but I am totally lost on what you are saying.

Posting names would only dig me deeper into your agenda which I don't understand.

bin Laden is influential, I really think most would agree.

Are you people really this dense?

YARGH! In the tape he makes comments regarding a news story printed in late December. *This* tape isn't that old, but agreed they do have stuff ready to launch.

I think you are taking the term "influence" out of connatation. I am not "adhering to lifestyles based on an idea of evil," I am talking about the money we spend on "defending" out nation. The economic tolls his tapes take.
Yes definitely..there has been a huge financial toll that generations after us will be burdened with.

Thanks man. I guess I am confused a bit. I meant "influence" in pretty general terms.

As far as the airports are concerned, I am a bit younger and did not travel as extensively before 2001, but my domestic wait times seemed shorter, but that is based on memory that could be faulty.

But airport wait times is not the main thing I was talking about. I was thinking more in terms of economics and such. Eros summed it. Actually, Eros summed it up twice!

He is influential now --no question.

However, I do not believe the future looks good for him.

I think his stock will decline to 0 at some point in the near future.

I'm really not trying to fight with you. I also don't really have an agenda. Your original post cited oil prices as a display of influence. Don't think that's a fair measure.

The Saudi Royal family could sneeze tomorrow and have more effect on world oil prices. That's all I'm saying.

Crown Prince Abdullah could crash world markets tomorrow. OBL -- not so much.

No doubt about that.

I thought you interpretted me as saying "I am scared, therefore I am influenced."

I am speaking more in terms of his influence over oil and US legislation, as well as the Muslim world.

But you are right, I didn't travel outside the US before 2001, so I don't know much about wait times in international terminals.

I've been out of the coutry half a dozen times in the last year and flown across the coutry more than that in the last six months... and my wait times are NO longer than pre-9/11.

Maybe some of us didn't travel much before 2001.

If you fly into the States as a non-American than your travel routine has very much changed but if you are an American chances are you won't notice it.

When I flew right after 9/11 there was understandably a lot more hoops I had to jump through in the airports but these days the only difference is the three hour rather than two hour check in time at Heathrow.
