I agree - in fact, I worked at the ATL airport in addition to taking at least one plane trip a week for several years in the late 1980's and early 1990's and waits are actually shorter now than they were. I used to love being able to wave my "employee pass" and walking past the others.

After 9/11 there were longer lines and delays but that was rectified within a few months. If anything, the "influence" was a good one - the airlines finally started taking security seriously. Other countries took it seriously long before 2001.
