Firefox: The new blue screen of death.

I am a late convert to Firefox, and I am really trying to learn to love it, and there are certainly features of it that I really like, but fuck, it sure picks the worst time to suddenly crash on me.

Anyone that has read any of my blogs can probably tell that I put a lot of time and effort into my writings. At about 2:30 AM I was putting the finishing touches on a new project when, BLAM! it dies on me again.

Is this typical of Firefox or is it just gremlins messing with me?

I have never had it crash on me either. But I would sugguest that you do all articles in word, or similar program, and then copy paste.

Firefox hasn't really ever crashed on me.

Though, I haven't seen the blue screen of death in years since getting XP.

I wish they would put out a PDA version.

I love FireFox and use it but it will crash on you at times. Never a blue screen but it will sometimes crash when using graphical web interfaces that some blogs and other programs use. Early versions of it were very bad at it. There is a new tool out that will let you open an IE tab inside of FF. It's great for viewing websites with both programs or for web sites that don't work well with FF. Someone said FF is slower, that's not true. It's slower to open but not slower to run, sounds like you're PC is eat up with spyware or Trojans.

I did not mean that FF was giving me the blue screen, just that it was the equivalent to the blue screen.

It crashes, but not often. I was having huge problems earlier, and I found that removing all previous installs of firefox and then doing a clean install with the newest version cleared all of the mess up. I hope that helps!

I don't know about other blog scripts, but don't do this in WordPress. The characters are different and it screws up the text in your RSS feed.

Join the club, not much Firefox developers can do about that. They didn't code external plugins, Microsoft did.

Also, installing extensions might cause more crashes as not all are mature.

Yeah, FF crashes sometimes. Not often, but it does. Normally there is something trying to run, whether video, or media or something on the page you were on. I normally only get it from MySpace, or occasionally when gmail refreshes. Beyond that, few are far between.

Yes. FF loads slower, but the browser it's self is much faster than I.E. EVER was.

install SessionSaver. If FF crashes, next time you open FF it puts every tab back, everything you were typing, etc.

I started using Firefox when it was still called 'phoenix' (later 'firebird' and even later 'firefox'). I never had any real problems, but then again I never use the very latest version (I always wait a couple of weeks... If strange bug reports pop up, i wait for the next release...)

Firefox is great because of all the extensions, but it can be buggy and slow at times.. For an alternative thats almost as good in most ways and better in some ways try opera.. its totally free to use, and they god rid of the banner adds. Its been around a long time and is very featureful. I use it except for when im at work becuase firefox has some handy extensions that make my job much easier, but opera is definately has firefox beat with speed and stability. Lots of really cool unique features too.
