Firefox: The new blue screen of death.

I am a late convert to Firefox, and I am really trying to learn to love it, and there are certainly features of it that I really like, but fuck, it sure picks the worst time to suddenly crash on me.

Anyone that has read any of my blogs can probably tell that I put a lot of time and effort into my writings. At about 2:30 AM I was putting the finishing touches on a new project when, BLAM! it dies on me again.

Is this typical of Firefox or is it just gremlins messing with me?

boldy 01-15-2006 02:49 PM

gremlins . No problems here ...

Alky 01-15-2006 02:50 PM

ie never crashed?

swoop 01-15-2006 03:03 PM

never had it crash on me...never heard this happening to anyone that i know of either

pornguy 01-15-2006 03:05 PM

I have never had it crash on me either. But I would sugguest that you do all articles in word, or similar program, and then copy paste.

TexasDreams 01-15-2006 03:08 PM

Never had any problems with FireFox here. It ROCKS!!!

i don't think it's designed to run on win98

EdgeXXX 01-15-2006 03:11 PM

Never really had any probs with my Firefox. Try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Yeah, guess that would be one way to do it

Wordsforhire 01-15-2006 03:21 PM

Firefox is my lifeline, I never use IE open the window and nothing loads..I try to go to a different page..again nothing loads..Firefox may run a little slower but a least I get pages displayed..I think you have some gremlins..lol

Sarah_Jayne 01-15-2006 03:23 PM

Firefox hasn't really ever crashed on me.

Though, I haven't seen the blue screen of death in years since getting XP.

I wish they would put out a PDA version.

Sickthing 01-15-2006 03:32 PM

I love FireFox and use it but it will crash on you at times. Never a blue screen but it will sometimes crash when using graphical web interfaces that some blogs and other programs use. Early versions of it were very bad at it. There is a new tool out that will let you open an IE tab inside of FF. It's great for viewing websites with both programs or for web sites that don't work well with FF. Someone said FF is slower, that's not true. It's slower to open but not slower to run, sounds like you're PC is eat up with spyware or Trojans.

Doctor Dre 01-15-2006 03:33 PM

FF crashes once in a while when I have 50+ frames open.

I did not mean that FF was giving me the blue screen, just that it was the equivalent to the blue screen.

V_RocKs 01-15-2006 03:43 PM

I had a similar problem... I upgraded my old computer and no problems now...

xclusive 01-15-2006 03:59 PM

Never had it crash on me sorry that the work was lost.

Elli 01-15-2006 04:14 PM

It crashes, but not often. I was having huge problems earlier, and I found that removing all previous installs of firefox and then doing a clean install with the newest version cleared all of the mess up. I hope that helps!

BlackCrayon 01-15-2006 04:15 PM

foxfire crashes on me usually when trying to view embedded video.

InGayPorn 01-15-2006 04:18 PM

I don't know about other blog scripts, but don't do this in WordPress. The characters are different and it screws up the text in your RSS feed.

Join the club, not much Firefox developers can do about that. They didn't code external plugins, Microsoft did.

Also, installing extensions might cause more crashes as not all are mature.

pussyluver 01-15-2006 04:28 PM

Oh, you must have that new virus the Word micro firefox macro bug. Just requires a BIOS update

When was the last time you did a defrag?

tony286 01-15-2006 04:35 PM

firefox crashes on me at least once a day. my laptop is not old has a gig of ram and more 3 programs to project against virus and spyware.it still better than ie

Barefootsies 01-15-2006 04:39 PM

Yeah, FF crashes sometimes. Not often, but it does. Normally there is something trying to run, whether video, or media or something on the page you were on. I normally only get it from MySpace, or occasionally when gmail refreshes. Beyond that, few are far between.

Yes. FF loads slower, but the browser it's self is much faster than I.E. EVER was.

:pimp

install SessionSaver. If FF crashes, next time you open FF it puts every tab back, everything you were typing, etc.

nice tip! I am guilty of over-tabbing at times

u-Bob 01-15-2006 04:59 PM

I started using Firefox when it was still called 'phoenix' (later 'firebird' and even later 'firefox'). I never had any real problems, but then again I never use the very latest version :) (I always wait a couple of weeks... If strange bug reports pop up, i wait for the next release...)

lyn1 01-15-2006 05:00 PM

I'm Guilty. I still used I.E. and never have a problem.

Firefox is great because of all the extensions, but it can be buggy and slow at times.. For an alternative thats almost as good in most ways and better in some ways try opera.. its totally free to use, and they god rid of the banner adds. Its been around a long time and is very featureful. I use it except for when im at work becuase firefox has some handy extensions that make my job much easier, but opera is definately has firefox beat with speed and stability. Lots of really cool unique features too.

je_rome 01-15-2006 05:55 PM

honestly I have never experienced such problems with me FF, especially with their 1.5 version

quantum-x 01-15-2006 06:10 PM

firefox 1.5 blows.

reynold 01-15-2006 06:24 PM

I am doing well with my FF . Yes, it might be slow sometimes but it's still works better compared to others. :)

Pryda 01-15-2006 06:33 PM

The newer versions of FF (1.5 and above) crash on my computer from time to time.
