Does Vodka freeze in the freezer?

I'm thinking someone at my cottage must have watter down my Vodka - cause I keep it in the freezer and the bottle FROZE. the freezer is set at about -7C.

the only way i can see vodka freezing at that temp is if someone I let stay at the cottage watered it down

beer (I think) and wine/champagne freeze
hard liquor doesnt

I dont know about the new hard liquor based, pre-mixed drinks. maybe it has something to do with the percentage of alcohol

voda ~ 40%
champagne/wine ~7% to 10%

Why doesn't alcohol freeze?
Answer:
Alcohol will freeze, but only at extremely low temperatures. Water's freezing point is 0 degrees Celcius, but the freezing point of ethanol (the alcohol you're talking about) is -114 degrees Celsius. Ultra-low temperature freezers (which are the coldest you can buy) have temperatures between -50 and -90 degrees Celcius. Your freezer at home most likely has temperatures around -10 degrees Celcius. All these temperatures are too warm for pure alcohol to freeze. That's why you can alcohol in your freezer and it won't freeze

I don't think any home refrigerator would be able to freeze vodka. The freezing point of vodka is past -30c.

It will freeze. 60% of the wodka is water and the mix will start to freeze at -18 celcius.

Its a way to clean home made boooze.

-114c is for 100% alcohol.

Vodka should not freeze.. I have had bottles of cheap shnapps in the freezer for months and it barely got any ice crystals in it when it was pulled out to be drank.. I think it got watered down someplace in order for it to freeze solid.

taken from somewhere else:

The freezing point will depend on the alcohol content. My guess is that we're looking about around 80 proof, that is, 40% alcohol.

95% ethanol (Everclear, if you like) freezes at about -110°C, which is about -200°F. Assuming a linear relationship we estimate that 40% ethanol freezes a bit below -40°C = -40°F. (Actually, 40% ethanol freezes at almost -30°C according to the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.)

Most kitchen freezers won't go that low. But you should be able to freeze vodka or Jaegermeister with dry ice, which is at a temperature of about -100°C.

If my math serves me right, you would have to have less than 10% vodka for it to freeze.

Good explanations in this thread. I knew Vodka would freeze at some point, but I have never reached it.

Note to self: do not turn freezer down below -50 degrees C...if that's even possible!

Vodka won't freeze unless it's watered down or there is almost nothing left.. We had babysitters water ours down. LOL

oh shit, that sucks. belve is my preferred vodka of choice. maybe they let it sit out and the condensation developed inside the bottle and when it was refrozen, the bottle cracked from the temperature difference or water expanding. that seems kinda wierd though, i take a bottle in and out of my freezer all the time and it never breaks. maybe it was watered down.
