Every industrialized country with a decent military is going to have strategies and war plans drawn up for their neighbors and probably just about every other fucking county on the planet.

Canada probably has their own plans for us. It's not that big of deal, just the military doing it's job and strategizing various scenarios.

Except the liberal ranks have dwindled substantially since the last election.

Ya but the universal health care (and dare I say social assistance) is still a sticky issue.

I'm sure any invasion plans are curently up to date and ready to be implemented, especially to counter an invasion by China... Why?? Our tar sands can supply the entire world with oil for something like 200 years and we're already the #1 supplier of oil to the US. Been that way for at least 5 years now..

Canada's reserves are about 178.8 billion barrels (tar sands included).
World's supply in 2006 is 84 million barrels/day = approx 30 billion barrels a year.
Now, how the hell can Canada supply the world for the next 200 yrs?
The total world oil reserves are now about 2.013 trillion barrels. That will last for 66yrs. Now, they are discovering new reserves, but in lower quantity that the actual consumption. In like max. 100 yrs bye-bye oil!

Depending on who's stats you read, it's around 300 billion now and in a few more years will reach over a trillion as the tech to extract it improves. It will probably go up even more over the decades.

Keep in mind also that as the tech improves, not only will Canada's reserves increase, but so will those in Venezuela.

In addition, there is more oil in the earth. For example, there's an estimated 2+ trillion in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. But that's even hard to get at than the tar sands. But as the need arises, the technology will be developed and it will become available.

The current "cheap" oil might run out in 100 years, but there's plenty more to be had for centuries to come.

Oh. And I probably got the 200 year number wrong, it was probably only 100 years. All I know is that the current mania is justification to keep the prices high and rake in the profits.

Thats interesting - although clearly they skipped those countries beginning with the letters I and V

Actually the plans should just say two things:

"Do not, repeat do not, invade other countries. We are pants at this. We have no conception of what other countries or cultures are like
and no idea how to wage an effective campaign once we are in these countries. We think other countries are just like us (or US) the only difference being they speak funny

If you feel we definately do need to invade another country then just supply the manpower and hardware. Leave the planning and leadership to another country. Do not ever, repeat do not ever attempt to get involved in any strategic decisions. You will look silly and everyone wil laugh at us."

"Canada had its own plan, written nine years earlier, to counter a U.S. attack by invading the northern United States."

the funny thing (and this might have been mentioned) is that if canada became the 51st state, they would get everything they want from the US. With the huge liberal voting block it would create, America could elect Kerry, become pacifist, and be praying to allah in a few short years.

I applaud your sense of nationalism. It's too bad that we don't have enough of that attitude in the United States itself.

I personally am relieved to know that the US has an invasion plan, and I hope that it has been updated is detailed and accurate as to exactly where the US should bomb the fu@# out of Canada if the need should arise. Or N. Korea, Syria, Iran or even freaking Jamaica, mon.

It is the singular duty of our government to protect it's citizens from other govenments, and that means having a plan for every possible thing that might occur.

But I'm pretty sure that the US won't have any need to invade Canada, or any country for that matter. (and before someone chimes in with "you invaded Iraq", we are not invading their country to take anything. I think the goal is to give the country of Iraq back to it's citizens.)

However, if a war between the US and Canada ever does occur..... I think we'll kick your ass.

Christ guys, we are talking about the United States Government here. They don't take a crap in the morning without having a plan.
did you even read the article? Ofcourse they have all sorts of plans... and they would have probably implemented it if a war with Britain would have occured... You think there's nothing wrong with that plan?

"First approved in 1930, Joint Army and Navy Basic War Plan - Red was drawn up to defend the United States in the event of war with Britain."

Virtually any industrialized nation today has the technical capability to develop nuclear weapons within several years if the decision to do so were made. Nations already possessing substantial nuclear technology and arms industries could do so in no more than a year or two, perhaps even as fast as a few months or weeks, if they so decided to. The larger industrial nations (Japan and Germany for example) could, within several years of deciding to do so, build arsenals rivaling those of the states that already have nuclear weapons. This list below mentions some notable capabilities possessed by certain states that could potentially be turned to the development of nuclear arsenals. This list represents only strong nuclear capability, not the political will to develop weapons. All of the listed countries have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

* Canada Canada - Canada has a well developed nuclear technology base, large uranium reserves and markets reactors for civilian use. While Canada has the technological capabilities to develop nuclear weapons, there is no hard evidence it has done so, nor has Canada ever shown the intention to join the nuclear club outright, although rumors that Prime Minister John Diefenbaker had developed nuclear weapons are still present. Canada has been an important contributor of both expertise and raw materials to the American program in the past, and had even helped with the Manhattan Project. In 1959, NATO proposed to Canada that the RCAF assume a nuclear strike role in Europe. Thus in 1962 six Canadian CF-104 squadrons based in Europe were formed into the RCAF Nuclear Strike Force armed with B28 nuclear bombs (originally Mk 28) under the NATO nuclear weapons sharing program; the Force was disbanded in 1972 when Canada opted out of the nuclear strike role. Canada accepted having American W-40 nuclear warheads under dual key control on Canadian soil in 1963 to be used on the Canadian BOMARC missiles. The Canadian air force also maintained a stockpile of AIR-2 Genie unguided nuclear air-to-air rockets as the primary wartime weapon on the CF-101 Voodoo all-weather interceptor after 1965. Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau declared Canada would be a nuclear weapon-free country in 1971, and the last American warheads were withdrawn in 1984. Canada also produces the renowned CANDU reactor and has sold the technology to several countries, including China, South Korea, India, Romania, Argentina, and Pakistan. However there is no credible evidence that CANDU reactors were used to breed weapons grade material for either India and Pakistan. Canada nevertheless cut-off nuclear trade with those two countries after they detonated nuclear weapons.
