Its good for tax if you are a director. Lease it on the company and write it off against tax.

That being said you are a bit nuts if you lease a Lambo on 80 k (usd) a year, certainly not enough to keep the society of other owners

$1500 for rent *might* get you a decent 250-500 sq.ft STUDIO in a nice part of town.
For that here you can get a good 2000 sq feet house... and not a ghetto one.

You guys are lucky with just 40% taxes. Here in my woood, 40% is what's left on your income after paying the governments share of various taxes and social benefits

I would guestimate that if you're making $300,000 a year it would probably be in the realm of affordability.

I don't know too many guys owning Lambos that make 60-80k a year LOL!

I'd say you should be making a secure 400-500K a year and have atleast 500K in the bank. Of course, that is a little lower if you are getting a Gallardo. Big diff in price between the Murci and the Gallardo.

uhmmmmmmm no.

Insurance is NOT 10k a year on a lambo and you do not need to be making 150k a year to afford one and you do not need any other car for a daily driver.

A Gallardo is considered a daily driver. Insurance is no more than $3k a year and you can get a 2004-2005 model for around $130k

Of course this is all mute if you're some 18 year old.

150K per year in the USA and you can afford a Lambo. In the UK you'd need to earn at least £200K per year. Our insurance prices are insane. Plus over here you just don't own a Lambo. I saw one driving through my town a couple months ago but apart from that I've never saw one before except at car shows.

It was fun to read this thread again.
Now that i've had my Lamborghini a year,i'm in a better position to talk about ownership. So far,it's been totally reliable.I did about 5k miles on it and beyond the initial first service and oil change I haven't had to spend anything additional on it.Tires will need to be changed sometime next year.I think I might get 8-9k on them. But as far as using it for a daily drive.I wouldn't for a lot of reasons.
Porsche would be a much better choice for a daily driver.

I think it would be extremely difficult to impossible to own any exotic car on less than a 6-figure income.

To lease a car that costs over 200K you need to be making 400K or more.

If everyone making $80k a year could afford one they would be selling Lambos like hot cakes!

There are so many other things you need to look at:
  • Insurance
  • Tires
  • Tune Ups at $800 a pop
  • Cost of gas

And the biggest thing you aren't considering is the fact that this isn't a daily driver. You don't just turn the key, hit the gas and go. To properly maintain the car you need to let it warm up. This is the kind of car you take out once a week.

With that in mind, you need a daily driver. You can't own a Lambo and have a used Honda Civic as your daily driver; You'll need something nice to drive on a daily basis.

If you lease you should be able to have 250k in available funds at any given time, if you outright buy it 1m in cash. Remember that 250,000 is a lot of money but at the same time its not THAT much money.

The Daily Driver

Yet, despite the sports suspension setup, despite the 19-inch rims, this is a very comfortable car to ride in. You can truly live with this car on a day to day basis, even in winter, if you had to.

I really can imagine someone having both these cars in their garage, the Gallardo for everyday use, and the Murcielago for when you want to blow your head off.

The Gallardo is a supercar that was built for daily driving and if you are not driving it at least once every second day you are ruining it. Ask any professional mechanic. Cars like this need to be driven regularly in order to keep their parts in working order.

Like I mentioned,I put over 5k on it the first year.I drive it all the time the way it was designed to be driven.I just wouldn't use it as a daily. It's very low to the ground,it has no storage room at all. It's not an easy car to get in and out of.
The car draws way to much attention. The Porsche fits in a lot better. In all the years I've owned 911's,they have been photographed once or twice. In the year of owning the Lamborghini it's been photographed 100's of times. The downside of all that attention is that a lot of it takes place on the road at higher speeds.

I think that once the kids are out of the house, I'll consider jumping on something nice like that. I'm a family man and one everyday vehicle has to be my Ford Expedition and my second vehicle has to be a truck for towing my camper around, so I got my 2005 Ford F-350 Harley Davidson Quad-Cab truck, that's my baby

There are cool people who drive lambos and uncool people who drive lambos. The cool people are those making $1M+/year and can afford the lambo no problem. The uncool people are those making $50k - $200k/year who drive a lambo even though they cant afford it and basically end up making payments on it equivalent to the mortgage on their house.

Screw the lambo, get an Ariel Atom. It will flat out smoke any lambo and probably turm as many heads, AND is under $80k for the fully tricked out, carbon fiber model.

Dont look at it as how much income per year, look at it like this:
1. pay off all your debts including your mortgage for your house
2. have at least 500k/ 1 million in retirement / investments.
3. Now you can consider an expensive car toy

this is very very simple..

my wife works for an exotic car dealer.

if you need to ask yourself if you can afford it.. you can't.

buy some land.

Unless you are already set for a life (have a few million saved up)... it would be stupid to piss away that kind of money away on a car...

Yup ... that's the goal. Well said.

I guess I could afford a Lambo, but I'd have to live in it.
