i mean stuff like getting onto shuttles or transpo or anything like that. i am sure it wouldn't take very much effort for a few of us to lend a hand at approriate times to make sure you don't get left back for some reason like no lift on a shuttle or getting some help into or out of a building. that stuff is easily accomplished.

i think the Tican idea is a great idea. we should have a sponsor raffle for the "golden chair"

our event there is on the saturday, the big night at the show. i'll find out any details in advance so you don't have to deal with any unknown obstacles.

Well if I could somehow GET to Vegas from houston, I already have a pass to get in. If I can get there I would HAPPILY take you around the show. First of all it would be absolutely no problem at all for me to take a fellow webmaster around. Second of all, I'll just be happy to be at a show after being in the biz for 3 years and never having been to one.


Anyway, if they don't offer to hook you up with someone I'll be more than happy to do it.

It sounds fair to me. Two people going to the show = two tickets.

But, half price for the wheelchairbound sounds fair too. So, how about cheaper tickets for the dudes in a wheelchair, as some of them need to be pushed around all the time? That would be normal and fair too.

Just a real lack of 'thinking' by AVN, as usual.

Have they ever contacted AVN and explained the predicament to see about this situation? I do not think AVN would do this with intention.

Props to all you guys for looking out. I don't think ablebodied folks realize what a hassle it is being a gimp. I'm very lucky to have a wife thats always there to do things like put my chair in the cab etc, but I too was single once and know how tough it can be. I don't usually even look into the party scene because I never know what kind of accessibility it's going to have. One of my dreams is to be rich enough one day to hire a personal assistant that will always be by my side and offer help when needed. Hell, even going to the grocery store can be a pain in the ass sometimes because it's inevitable there's going to be something you need on the top shelf.
The world has come along way since I first got injured, but there's still a lot more that needs to be done and it all comes down to folks being educated.
Here's something I bet many of you don't know....handicapped parking is not designed to be close to the door so us guys don't have to push our chairs too far. It's designed to be bigger so we can get our fucking door open wide enough to take our chairs out. I can't tell you how many times I've had to sit by my truck and wait for the person who parked next to me to come out of the store so I could get my chair in and go home because they decided to pull into the XXX'd off spot in the HP parking. It's the little things people don't consider that makes life difficult for us, but I think as people become more educated it will be a better place. But as Sly said, it's life and being a cripple is definitely expensive!

I don't think it's fully a money issue either ... i think that if you need someone to assist you because of a disability you shouldn't have to pay extra. I do fill that the fact that you do have to pay extra will stop some of the smaller guys with disabilities from being able to come and that could be a great loss to all of us. It seems like these shows are catering to the bigger guys and that makes it less productive in my opinion ... I want to meet the up and comers and get into biz with them at the ground level ... what's the point of going to a show to see the same people that you see 5 times a year and are already working with. don't get me wrong ..i love seeing everyone but at that point it's a vacation and i could get the 30-40 people i really like together for half of what I'll spend at this show ... Just like sleazy is doing this year ... If i didn't book this show already I'd be going with them ..

I have to say that at this point my main reason for even going to this show this year it The Players Ball and that has nothing to do with AVN

For me the primary reason to go is to land more business and make more contacts. I get a chance to meet a few more people each year. Meeting someone face to face typically gives you the inside track you need to get idea's of the ground, stay at the top of the list for projects, and all of that. I learned awhile ago that attending shows and making the most of them really does end up leading to more business that supports your growth through the next year. Without constant growth I could not imagine trying to cover the costs I have that are always rising.

This is just another reason I am not paying for any AVN product or shows anymore. The last few years I have paid for the tickets to the show and they have been a cluster fuck. It seems like they are lacking any common sense and respect for the webmasters they need.

While I always go to Vegas, I definitely will not be attending the shows anymore, the price, the hassle and what you get out of the show itself is not worth it, not to mention most of the parties are invite only anymore anyhow and having that badge doesn't mean shit most of the time.

Good luck ASM & Sly with the situation. My father is handicapped as well and its always a pain, you always have some insensitive prick around to take parking spots and shit.

Though I will gladly take you up on the VIP for the jungle bash assuming I can get two. I know people will gladly help if I requested it, yet I would not want to ask someone to take me back early if I choose or need to etc nor get me there in the first place.

The responses are very thoughtfull and appreciated. Though it does feel a tad akward since I really was not looking to recieve anything from any of you nor was I trying to. I am not one to bitch or complain about my own situation and I am used to just doing what is required in order to do what I need to do.

AVN may change their policies in regards to this. I know I have contacted them myself before in regards to this. Though I personally do not think they really should get a great deal of flak on this issue. Although it is a logistical one that could be easily handled, we are a very tiny segment of the industry/population and it can easily go over looked from year to year. It is the type of thing that can be over looked and or lost in the shuffle from year to year. Then there is also the fact that it is common everywhere. When you have wheeled status you get very used to it and you see all the time no matter the company typically.

I do not understand how ya folks would expect AVN to know who is Handicapped and who is not, with exception of LF.

But hell bring out the torches to make sure they are guilty regardless?
On the form it does have a Handicapped box and reads:

"If you are disabled and require special services, please provide the details here."

I had to experience a bit of this with my parents both being limited physically.
Used to piss me off to no end.

Even if I were to go out without them and see someone illegally parking in one of the spots I would say something...usually I would say..."Well apparently you're fine physically, so you must be mentally handicapped."

That usually got their attention...no one ever argued back.

AVN have pushed the limit too far already. I doubt they'll be able to get it back. Expect the phoenix forum to be huge this year.

After Shock Media - shit man, we've been talking on ICQ for a long time. Never knew (hey....you type like you're in a wheel chair - LOL). I've got MS, and hope I won't get bad enough to need a chair, but ya never know which road that crappy disease will take me. Thank god I have good insurance. The reason I don't go to the vegas shows anymore is because walking REALLY takes it out of me, and it's like 1 mile to get from your room to the desk, and 5 miles to get to the convention floor. Real pain in the ass (and legs). This thread really brought up some concerns of mine for the future. If I really start going south, I'm gonna hit ya up for some shooting tips while being chair bound. Glad some folks stepped up with some extra tickets for ya.

AlienQ yes I have asked before as I previously stated. Also you may notice that I also stated I do not think AVN should be getting much flak on this. Though that box is good wiggle room that could allow for spin. Trust me though that is not the case.
If there was such policy they would also honor it via internet registration and onsite registration also. Specially since for some people the available attendant may change or be unknown until nearly the last minute and as you know pre-registered badges are non transferable and must match the persons ID.
