Amateur is not an excuse for bad or Exploding the myth of "Amateur Content"

So much of the content I see is labeled as "Amateur Content" when it really should be labeled "Crap", "Clueless" or just plain "Fucking Awful"

If you want to see amateurs go down to the local golf course on a Sunday and see the guys on course, or the local tennis club. If you want to see Amateur Photography try the local library or mall. All these people are amateurs and their work excels or their devotion to get to a level excels.

So why is it that a guy can pick up a camera, pay the local stripper $100 to pose naked and in the hope of making money call it "Amateur Content"?

What they are trying to recreate are the pictures a lover takes of their lover and they are often so far off the mark it's embarrassing. does it convince the surfer is the question. In my honest opinion I very much doubt it and "Amateur Content" is a section of the market I've made a fortune from.

Look at the content and ask yourself is she going to fuck me, does she look like she's doing this to get fucked, does she even look vaguely interested in sex? All the questions the guy spending $30 a month is asking himself.

I'm sorry if I' sound harsh, buy porn is slightly more than pointing a camera at a naked person and clicking the camera. If you don't know that why the fuck are you trying to sell porn?

but the real question is, what sells better:

exclusive or non-exclusive?

Neither and if you think the surfer gives a fuck about it you're wrong. But I suspect you are just trying to mis lead the newbies who don't know any better.

you seem to be in a good mood....I think you should clarify, amature and reality as they are often grouped as the same thing.

Bla Bla Bla...Yackety Schmatety. You're so stuck in your magazine world to where you don't have a clue about the average surfer..You're in an "ivory tower" and you can't get out, no matter how you try..

How many fucking content threads do you have to start on GFY to realize that when it really comes to the average joe surfer with his dick in his hand, you don't know JACK SHIT more than anybody else? In fact, I'll wager that you know even LESS...much LESS...

Fuck!!!

I suppose if your model is a good enough actor/actress she could recreate the look of a non adult woman or man taking pics for their own personal enjoyment or as a gift to their significant other. Am to me seems like a fetish just like any other, a preferance to see something other than generic, mainstream, hardcore. I would guess it has to do with a more easily created fantasy between your on screen model and the surfer, does this mean the best am models are par or sub par in the looks department? Is it the averageness of the model or the use of bad lighting, non professional back drop, household or exhibitionist setting or a combination of both. Is it the knowledge that this model has not been in hundreds of big name productions that does it?

I figure you have to seperate personal opinion and taste from that of your surfer. It seems some people eat up the really "crappy" stuff because it makes it more approachable. But I agree with your comments about how the girl comes across, the illusion is broken if you have a bored model who looks like she is waiting for session to end so she can collect her cash unless the person is into non caring, non affectionate women, hey anything is possible.

So is Amatuer the photographer or the content or a combination of both? Personally I would prefer to shoot only amatures who are going to go pro, find new talent and build their careers with them, but I prefer super model looks and/or great personalities that carry over on film with new or uncommon looks to just anything with T and A. that is because that is what I personally like in women, but how many surfers are like "that one looks good enough"? You are either quantity or quality I suppose

You're absolutely right Mr. Markham. I still remember from my "surfer" days I didn't even know too much nore care about "exclusivity". All I cared about was if the girls looked, like, say one of my ex-girlfriend's or a girl I met at the store, or whatever. You get the picture. The amateur niche is one unique niche that a lot of webmasters know nothing about really. You Mr. Markham, I will be buying a lot of content from very soon.

No doubt. Personally I find Paul Markham's content to be same-ish. Same lighting, similar sets... it becomes very boring, as it is not difficult to spot. That's a FACT. The guys that like it are very loyal, but I know that a lot of people don't.

I got into the game with retail of novelty. One great marketing tool we had was porn parties. Get everyone together and show the lamest porn you can find with the worst plot, stupidest costumes and most terrible voice overs and acting. Usually it was skin-a-max type stuff like Spiderbabe (i know you have seen it) or vintage "you like that don't you bitch" porn. People laugh and joke and comment and have a good time and walk away buying lots of novelty from our hostesses, even the squimish people have a good time eventually since it is not Peter North plowing 2 hot blondes with a serious undertone to it. Some clients even began to ask if our dvd selections included some of the "terrible porns" instead of big production stuff. You are right, some people just really want to see badly shot porn, it is their thing. When I got into the game I thought all porn was high quality hardcore or softcore, niches like bbw, foot, scat, goth etc did not exist because I nor the people I hung with were exposed to it. I thought anything that was not model shit was pointless, low budget bullshit that scraped the bottom of the barrel in profits WRONG, I know much betterr now. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Seems to me most sites are less demanding than big production, you can get away with more. But honestly, who is making more money, your site with decent chics with decent shots, the guy shooting anything that comes in the door or someone shooting super model porn stars? Now where is the most work involved, the most competition, this is work/sucess(profit) Is your choice to use good enough girls representative of your "my check is good enough" attitude?

Paul, no disrespect to your post...

But who are you to say what's amateur (crap) or professional?

Do you have the official judgement on amateur and professioanl content? If so, when were you elected cuz I shoot raw amateur porn myself. I don't care about how a set is looking. I shoot a lot of POV as well. On the run style porn... But, I'm not looking to any peeps for acceptance... All I'm about is making that almighty dolla.. In which it is being made shooting my amateur porn...

But still, what and who gives you the authority to be judge of the two?

Real amateur porn looks like the Pam and Tommy tape - without beautiful famous celebrities but still... spontaneous, flawed, genius, sexy.

We know the difference. Our customers tell us what is good TRUE AMATEUR and what is not and they are always right. They can spot the pro produced "amateuresque" porn instantly. The will put up with bad lighting and sound and even a few bad camera angles for the real thing.

Have you a clue how much we make from selling amateur pictures?

I guess not otherwise you would not have posted this.

Or are you saying that a porn consumer changes his acceptance level when he switches on a computer, or that the Internet is full of surfers looking for crap, or just that's all you can sell?

Thing is you don't have a fucking clue about what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the quality of the image, that has nothing to do with porn.

It's not amateur and it's not any reality a surfer wants to pay for.

They want to see a fantasy, the fantasy is the girl is hot and ready to fuck.

What I'm talking about is guys totally unable to motivate a model or trying to shoot a girl imitating a porn star without the looks or experience.

Amateur is meant to be people doing it for the fun of it, the fun should come through in the poses, action and fantasy.

Well I guess as some one who has made a lot of money in the last 28 years I can tell good from bad.

Not saying POV or all "amateur" is bad, I love the stuff some do becasue it captures the mood. I'm talking about the clowns who think it's just pointing a camera.

Far-L stuff is great it captures the mood. Don't klnow your stuff.

But today I saw a load of galleries that someone threw together with crap content thinking it would sell and a guy trying to sell me stuff that simply will not make money.

Ok, Now I fully understand what you're saying and I agree... Just pointing a cam doesn't make it good amateur porn... I also say it's crap... I got some nemesis who does that...
