Do you think Google has made it too difficult to get listed?

It seems like they're constantly setting the bar for us getting our sites listed, and we have to persistently bend over backwards for their spider.

Do you think Google has gotten worse because of too many restrictions for getting listed/placement, or because of too many scammers and competition?

Or both?

It's all about setting the bar high to get better search engine results.

I actually remember searching Google about a year and a half ago and only having to go 2 pages deep to find what I was looking for... now I have to try several different combinations of words and phrases...

There were less pages then. Less indexed, less created, less everything. The more there are indexed, the harder it will be to rank things appropriately.

I don't know about getting "listed", that's never been a problem really.. Getting a good rank is where the problem is.. You can have a page/site that is really the "best" as far as information and content, compared to what they have ranked as number 1 and it doesn't even show up in the top 100... Everyone says PR doesn't matter as much anymore and that's bullshit... You can make yourself a page that has real information about some obscure search term and sites with high PR will rank higher than you if they just have the words on the page.

Well, of course - but playing Calvinball hasn't helped either, and has just made it harder for webmasters and surfers....

Thing is, Google is leaving open a clear path for msn or yahoo to grab a big share again.

Yeah, I had noticed a misuse of verbage after the fact.

Hoped people would know what I meant anyway.

getting listed has neverbeen easier or faster , getting ranked well i sgetting harder and harder..

Its a slow and obvious plan to slowly make the search results shittier and shittier as they institute ads via adwords that are more and more related..
Why click on the ads on the right if its easily found in the results..

That is really interesting, and makes 100% sense. Kinda shitty, though.

Kinda rooting for MSN & Yahoo

I disagree - the higher the bar is set, only the hardcore SEOs will ever be able to do enough work to rank well. Highly relevant sites that don't use aggressive SEO tactics will have zero chance of doing well.

Back in '99 when Google was still just getting known, the search results were highly accurate, timely and very little spam. Of course, once Google got popular all that changed and their engineers are constantly fighting to stay ahead of the blackhats. But like hacking, it's nearly impossible to win.

Do a search for nearly any major keyword/phrase and you'll see pure SEOed results top to bottom. Sure, many sites are relevant but they are a project that had serious work go into them to get those results - it's not about relevance any more but winning the SEO game.

I think google has been slacking off big time. I ran a backlinks check for my SE listings on one site & google counts less than 100, but msn counted over 2300 ? MSN seems to be the only se that counted every single back link

I don't think it's google that makes it hard to get good listings, it's all the waring SEOs' out there all battling for the same keywords.

If you have 100's of thousands of people all fighting to get the same keyword listing, you'll find it more of a challenge to get a good listing with that wording.

spam will always get the better ranks no matter what. the higher google sets the bar just means more of a percentage for less people. i hate google quite honestly. i could never get near the results i could with the old aol search engines. i miss that search engine.

I can get a new site listed in Google within 24 hours. I still consider myself an SEO newb.

Don't think it's that difficult to get listed.

Yeah, obviously 'listed' was the wrong word, this has already been acknowledged in the thread. Ranking is what I meant.

Hello folks. So let me tell you my opinion. First of all "It's all about setting the bar high to get better search engine results." - this is not correct.
ONLY better PR doesn't mean better stats. PR is just one of the ranking factors.
"I actually remember searching Google about a year and a half ago and only having to go 2 pages deep to find what I was looking for... now I have to try several different combinations of words and phrases..." - indeed
many people have said that lately... from statistics Yahoo is the search engine that shows the most accurate results... lots of unrelated pages have started to appear in google tops lately...
"Content is king" - indeed... but google also LOVES links... so a king that is not loved isn't too good

"Everyone says PR doesn't matter as much anymore and that's bullshit... You can make yourself a page that has real information about some obscure search term and sites with high PR will rank higher than you if they just have the words on the page." - again PR IS important but it's not the only thing that matters.
"They did not have 8 billion pages indexed a year and a half ago" - indeed Baddog you are correct.

"I think google has been slacking off big time. I ran a backlinks check for my SE listings on one site & google counts less than 100, but msn counted over 2300 ? MSN seems to be the only se that counted every single back link" - google shows way less links then Yahoo or MSN

All in one Google isn't as accurate as it should. But also MSN and Yahoo don't have the number of clicks per day Google has. As it's always in the life.. one thing must balance another.. and one bad thing is balanced with a good one... I wish I could tell you more but I don't have the time right now and also I want to let you find the misteries of this thing called SEO. For what I've seen untill now in the adult world SEO is not part of the hard competition.. but it's starting... but in the other sites... sometimes it's hell on earth ... to be honest SEO is the future... so now in the end if you wish to know more about SEO you can contact me at razvan at blackbookescorts.com or on ICQ - 216429032 and we can talk more about it

Good luck to everyone improoving your stats
