Does anyone do handshake deals anymore?

I'd love to hear great, or horrible stories about recent handshake deals. I just get the idea that handshakes meaning anything is a thing of the past.

And I don't mean making deals online.. everybody knows those go both ways.

Probably wouldn't do it in any situation that was really important and other than that only with very few people.

In Florida this year I made a handshake deal with someone and it's payed off many times over since then. It does happen, it's just rare anymore.

If your buying real estate, forget the handshake. But always good to show some respect, integrity, and loyalty when dealing with people.

Very rare a deal is done on a handshake (Been burned on that before) and if it is I would follow it up with a written agreement, I prefer an agreement on paper so that each party knows what they have to do and their responsibility and the more legally binding the better it is for both parties protection and understanding.

That way anyone can go back to what was agreed to clear anything up as miss-communication can happen to the best of us sometimes.

Everytime an affiliate signs up for a program it's basically nothing but a handshake deal. Read the "agreements" and you'll see 99% of the programs have in there they can change the terms at any time

I haven't made a deal in writing since I've been in this biz and haven't been screwed over yet. Just did another one last week via nothing but ICQ (VERY part time so don't anyone think I'm really getting back into the biz ;) ). Once you've been around for a while, you know who to trust and who not to trust.

Handshakes mean you can post that he's a stand up guy when he's revealed as a scammer.

Some of the best deals I've done in this business have been on a handshake. Come to think of it, some of the worst have too.

That is tru, somethings are just not worth putting it on paper and it also depends on the business model that you have as your business might need agreements and contracts in place if you wanted to sell it one day this can be something that a buyer would want to see when he does his due diligence.

Handshake deals are about as valid as the person you shook hands with in most occasions.

Fuck using the courts to settle your issue since it will turn into a "he-said, she-said" affair. Everything I do is on paper and in triplicate.

I survive in this business on handshakes but also respect anyone I work with to follow a handshake up by initiating a contract or email specifying what was discussed.

I've done a couple of them in the past month with domain transfers. It was actually the other person wiring the funds only after a few emails. $1500.00 on one occassion and $2000.00 on another. So I wasn't putting anything on the line. Either way it was a good feeling to know that some people still operate this way.

I personally am more hesitant to do handshake deals with people I don't know. Too many scammers lurking these days. But with people I know I will sometimes.

over the years I have seen great friendships ruined over greed. Trust is earned and in these days I have a handfull that I truly trust without hesitation - but I try to give people the benefit but usually use my network of contacts to verify someones reputation and integrity. I never walk into any agreement blindly.

I agree with that, although sometimes a contract is nice just to remind everyone involved what they agreed to.

Handshake/email deals, with a 50% upfront deposit, even from companies that have been around for 5+ years.

Yes! I believe

I was flown to Zurich this past July.

On a handshake with Joe, I am now exclusive to EuroRevenue. Every point of our deal has been honoured by both sides.....the deal was sealed with a handshake and four bottles of Austrian Reisling......No regrets....and we make a helluva team.

I agree with JFK..
