Why do we care that John Lennon died twenty five years ago?

He wasn't the greatest musician. His songs were just ok -- there was no great talent. He was a hippie, big fucking deal. The Beatles sucked too. I don't get the appeal.

A whole industry has evolved out of whoring out the bones of that long haired faggot.

"Do you remember where you were when lennon was killed?"

How the fuck can I forget when you assholes remind me every year! Fucking media. Bunch of assholes with nothing better to do then tell us what to think and do and how we should feel.

Music that was not particularly original. Boring movies that were essentially knockoffs of Monkees episodes.

People were only into peace and love because it was the hip thing to do.

It's mostly media hype.
When Lennon got shot suddenly his new album started selling, before that it was getting bad reviews and he was being called a washed up ex-beatle.

Of course as soon as he was dead he became a demi-god that could do no wrong.

Maybe you only heard the poppy songs? They have some good "semi-popular" songs that are better than the "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" type content.

Try: Free as a Bird, Norwegian Wood, Day Tripper, Come Together, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

They are Beatles songs that are in the category, "Wow, the Beatles sing that song?"

And John Lennon, he has a lot of good songs too which almost all fall into the category, "Wow, John Lennon sings that song?"

Try: Whatever gets you through the night and Starting Over for starters.

They changed music forever. First band to use multi track recordings, heavy guitar distortion, concept albums, orchestras in rock music, I can go on and on.

Movies I agree were not that great unless you are a big fan.

But go listen to some songs like Glass Onion, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Across the Universe, Norwegion Wood, Julia, Dear Prudence, Revolution 9, etc. and tell me the were not creative, talented, and inovative.

You may not like them but they were extremely talented.

How old are you? If you weren't around to experience The Beatles before everything that followed came along I can understand how you might think that they were copying someone else.

John Lennon was the original yuppie. He talked all this shit about the people and suffering and making the world a better place. All the while he lived in a swank apartment over looking Central Park with a pretentious artist. They hammed it up for every magazine that would give them some face time. He spent the later years of his life wallowing in self pity because his talent was limited and he came to the realization that he had been riding Macartney and the others coattails all-along.

Ringo was the man and Lennon couldnt even hold his cock while he peed.

So many skewed points to destroy, it's impossible to know where to start.

People born around '80 or so have no concept of good music unless they were fortunate enough to have someone really well rounded musically in their lives to expose them to music before sampling, hiphopping and "fixing" it in the mix. It truly was the year that the music died....

They were good merchandising. That's it.

They had some catchy tunes..like the I love you ..yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah...ect ect etc.

But their music was NOT as outstanding as some would have you believe and John Lennon was not the greatest musician in history or of the 20th century or even the 1960's.

He was by 1980 a washed up ex-rock star that had been holed up in his NYC apartment for 10 years and was mostly outdated and no one really considered his music to be relevant anymore.

Shit, remember in the early 70's when him and his flake of a wife holed up in an Amsertdamn hotel room and had a love in for peace? The guy was a fucking flake, prancing around it is all white suits, hair down to his ass and a Jesus beard.
If he wasn't killed, he'd probably still be doing the same thing now, except hopefully everyone would see him for the nutjob, deadbeat dad and heroin addict that he was.

OVER. HYPED.

The Beatles didn't need a TV show, every show wanted them, though. In those days doing series TV after movies was generally a step down for the broke and washed/washing out...

The Monkees laid a turd of movie though

Thank goodness we have you and your elitist attitude to set us straight. Do explain to us the relevance of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da".

Sure its easy, today, to critizise them...and to say what they did was nothing...and yes they're better bands out there today....

The trick is to be the first to do it!...
You say the Beatles are just another boys band?? Thing is, there were no boys band in 1950-60...

Being the 2093433th poprock band today is no big deal...being the first one out there, almost 50 years ago, is something else...wheter you admit it or not, they had a huge influence on music....(and yes I know they were probably other bands BEFORE them and blah blah, but they were the first to really hit it big)

Its like saying Alexander Graham Bell shouldnt get credit for inventing the phone because we have cell phones today...You can't discredit someone for being the first to do something just because there are better things today...
