The original was a 'masterpiece' this remake is just yet another attempt at capitalization by the movie industry.

May of todays kids have absolutely no idea about what movies or songs are remakes or covers from 'masterpieces'.

Lots of them think Madonna wrote American Pie, lots of them thing Dr Dolittle was originally played by Eddie Murphy.

Society as a whole is getting dumber, this is great for music and movie companies, not to mention the thousands of other corporations in the U.S who like Americans to be dumb so they can continue selling their recycled crap every 5-10 years.

Regards,

Lee

Although I agree up to a point, you should also realize that remaking a classic brings back the original to the spotlight so that a new generation of people will discover it whom might not have done so otherwise.

I can understand that although, at the same time 'remaking' a classic, shouldnt really need to be done, if you think about it.

The reason these masterpieces are remade is because people are to stupid to realize what makes a movie a classic or a masterpiece, especially movies that dont rely on a bunch of CGI for their effects.

To me, remaking a classic movie is no different to someone 'remaking' a work of art such as Van Goch's Sunflowers or Monets Waterlillies using Crayola instead of oil and canvas.

Lee

Whatever. Peter Jackson has been a fan of KING KONG fan since the age of 9 when he saw the movie. This prompted him to become a filmmaker too. A lot of his own money is invested in this remake as well. IN fact, the studio wouldn't finance the film when he wanted to make the movie back in the late 90s. It was only until after the success of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy did they let him. This was a labour of love for Jackson. I think you're picking on the wrong movie here. See it before you criticize it.

I love long movies ... Eg : The aviator, casino, godfather, LOR etc etc.
You just don't have enough time in an hour and a half to go through details.

Not really sure what I cleared up for you. The reason they didn't let him in the first place was because he had two lackluster outings as a director with "The Frighteners" and his debut whose title I can't remember right now. KING KONG is a big movie to take a chance on with a young director.

I agree with the Good Doctor.

Most of the movies considered the greatest of all time have been much longer running than average: LOTR: Return of the King, Shawshank Redemption, Godfather's I & II, Schindler's List, Pulp Fiction.........that extra half an hour for character development makes all the difference in the world and makes us care more about what happens to the characters in my opinion.

I know, Sarah! Isn't it freaky to look at Jackson now compared to before? He doesn't look like a hobbit anymore. They should publish this "Peter Jackson Diet" as he's shed so much weight.

you mean "Heavenly Creatures", which is actually a really good movie, but it was not his debut.

the all time classics from Peter Jackson are Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Brain Dead, one of the best splatter movies ever! Party's over!

This looks amazing! Lord of the Rings was great and I think Peter Jackson will do it again with King Kong. I too loved the 1933 original.

Even Fangoria Magazine Agrees!

http://www.fangoria.com/ghastly_review.php?id=5222

Even Fangoria Magazine christens this a masterpiece:

Excerpt:

"Let?s get right to the point: Peter Jackson?s KING KONG is a masterpiece, an astonishing work of cinematic art that can lay legitimate claim to the title of greatest monster movie ever made. It is also something equally impressive: a remake that truly honors, respects and outdoes the original, and like the first KING KONG back in 1933, it sets a standard by which all future films in the genre will be judged."

------------------------------------------

Its even got the horror lovers vote.

I don't think it is so much the Hollywood is running out of ideas as that is costs money to buy scripts. Wasn't there a writer's strike a bit back? It is cheaper to re-write scripts you already own.

Haha....thats the way the world works. Get over it. There are many things from the 1800's that probaly were duplicated or influenced some things in the 1900's.

I think its a problem with lack of script quality...not money for scripts. The Screen Writers Guild is filled wtih noobs willing to part with their self proclaimed "masterpieces" for close to nothing in hopes of being the next "American Beauty" or "Good Will Hunting". So the only thing Hollywood can do is go to something that worked in the past. The age of Parody (buddy comedies, slasher flicks etc.) is over...for at least a good 5-7 years.

PETER JACKSON + HALO = OMFG!!!11!!!!11 haha

If is a self-feeding circle. If they keep over looking new writers for the same old junk then there is less chance for the good new stuff to shine through.

I still don't think Good Will Hunting was all that good. However, I remember when Bounce came out and I was in another movie and saw a trailer for it. It said something like 'Oscar Winner Gwenth Paltrow'....'Oscar Winner Ben Afleck' and something inside of me suddenly gave me a voice and I said too loudly 'not for acting!'.

More Word On "King Kong".......will it be good

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/review/...8_1_0_,00.html

Quote: "There's a new king in town. He roams the jungle with unmatched strength, and when he prowls his territory, other creatures must bow to his awesome primacy. I'm referring, of course, to Peter Jackson, the New Zealand filmmaker whose thrilling reinterpretation of King Kong is one of the wonders of the holiday season. As a follow-up to his triumphant Lord of the Rings trilogy, the movie seals Jackson's reputation: He's the most gifted big-picture artist working today, a master of epics from a human-eye view who excels at employing 21st-century technological wizardry to suit the needs of ageless, personal storytelling."
