Actually, we are the oldest living democracy. You could argue that Britan is older, but that's a difficult argument to make either way since they don't have a written constitution. Before you start on me Fletch, we are a democratic republic, not a pure republic.

That entry's wrong. A democracy is where the people are part of the government. A republic is where representatives represent the people. We live in a democratic republic. We directly elect individuals to represent our interests.

The President declared war on Global Terrorism and the Congress gave the President the use of the military "as he deems necessary" and made budget provisions to conduct the war...but only Congress can actually declare war and they have not done so since 1941.

If you look at history you will soon realize that more people have been killed in the name of one god or another than you would think possible.

It seems to me that it would have been impossible for any religion worth it's salt, to be able to take credit, and at the same time, glorify those deaths for any logical, valid reason.

The whole world and 50% of the US electorate probably have similar thoughts. I'd find that far more concerning than any terrorist stuff.

I suppose ya have to look at the current Admin for some clues. This was claimed, during the first "accession" to power, to be an Admin that would "represent all people". That never happened.

Instead, within 10 days of taking office, Bush reversed almost all his election promises in three sentences. That was the very first day I stopped and thought - Hey, we have a problem here.

Since then we have seen a very secretive Admin, not something you would expect in any democracy, and an Admin obviously with a known agenda.

Of course it was already planned that there would be an invasion of Iraq. That was on the planning table before Bush was ever elected.

There clearly are devisive actions which did not help bring the country together. The US had loads of support worldwide after 9/11 and would have full cooperation from all, but that was totally wasted and thrown to the winds. It became OK to call your neighbor "unpatriotic" or other bullshit for any convenient reason. It became OK to use labels and call people "US haters" and extend the language to using a lot of "us" and "them", even within the US.

I have little doubt this is deliberate and serves a purpose.

If Bush never had his 9/11, he would never be of note. Pull off the shroud and there is nothing underneath that would benefit the US. He is... and I'm not "bitching" *g*, but just too useless for any purpose, - nevermind running a country. He is basically inept.

Currently, the whole world seems to think the US is some mental asylum run by the patients. This was sure not the case before the Village Idiot appeared and the country had some respect.

Hell knows if that four year term will expire peacefully or be terminated in a blink. The biggest problem I can see is there is an idiot who created so much damage is now entrusted with clearing up the debris and making some sense. I can't see that happening somehow.

It is not only the flawed Iraq war which is a problem, but a range of elements, from the economy to employment etc. Sadly I'd bet in four years time, the US will be in one hell of a mess and it beats me how Bush was ever elected as a President the first time, nevermind a second term.

I just feel sorry for those who never supported his Presidency and the effects they will probably have to pay out on for many years ahead.

The remainder truely deserve the President they stupidly voted for. No other country, at least in the western world, would dream of having a totally ignorant and unqualified person as a leader. They would have to have a proven track record to be taken seriously.

I suspect you are going to be lied to for some time yet! :-)

All this is not about US internal politics - that is the one thing that serves no other purpose than polarize the country at this time.
