Need some help (Computer related - Windows XP Pro)

Ok, now I'm no "newbie" with computers or windows, but lately I've noticed that every single folder on my hard drive are Read-Only. Ok, so just right click, go to properties and uncheck the read-only box, apply, ok, right?? Well sure, but that doesn't do shit in this case. It used to, but not anymore. So, in the end, all the folders remains read-only.

So then I decide to go to a command prompt.. strat, run, CMD

in there I typed attrib -r +s c:\foldername (whatever folder you want to apply this to)

well, that didn't do shit.

So now I go to the folder that I'm trying to undo the read-only shit. I right click, go to properties, go to security and set every user to have full access to see if that would let me take off the damn read-only on every folder.

Now here I am still not able to take off the read-only on any folder. Has anyone here ever had this problem and if so how did you fix it?

I need to fix this because everytime I check my mail using mozilla thunderbird it gives me the following error

"Unable towrite the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox"

So, with the folders all set as read only it's stoping the email from being put there. Now I can't even check my mail. I need to get rid of the read-only shit.

and I already did searches for this problem on google and I've tried every solution that I found. None of them worked, obviously. lol

I don't get what caused it to set every folder to read-only

You can tell Windows to use the system flag instead of the read-only flag to identify customized folders.

1. Start a registry editor.
2. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer subkey.
3. Select New, DWORD Value from the Edit menu.
4. Enter a name of

UseSystemForSystemFolders

and press Enter.
5. Double-click the new value, set it to 1, and click OK.
6. Close the registry editor.
7. Reboot the machine for the changes to take effect.

see if that does the trick.

So did the attrib command fix it? If not, cd to D:\Programs\ThunderBird\Profiles\mail.isys.ca and try:

cacls *.* /T /E /C /G username:F

see, normally if you can change the attribubtes for files and folders it would be a check mark in the box, but in this case it's a solid box in the box for read-only and it can't be changed.
