Who else has hit a pedestrian while you were driving?

I hit a lady today. She had to be 45-55 years old. I just passed thru a green light and was looking back to switch lanes (from left land into the right lane). She darted out from between two parked buses and ran right into my path. I was going about 40km/h and slammed the breaks. The road was wet so I continued to skid into her. The car hit her lightly causing role off the driver's side and onto the ground. She was completely fine, not even a scratch.

She was charged with some type of traffic violation (I forget if it's called J walking or something else) and the police officer is sending me the report by mail.

It's just an awful feeling when you're trying to avoid hitting somebody but you know you're going to and then thud, they hit.

I did a couple of years ago. Little kid on a bike, he raced right out in front of my truck. He was shaken up but OK. I learned that day the things are very different in Detroit...lol

That's one thing I hate about being near/in a larger city vs. the burbs. People walk in teh street all the time and walk slow as fuck.

Damn, I was a little shaken. She kept saying she was fine but all I kept thinking about was if I had not seen her or if I had been travelling little faster. I could have killed her or seriously injured her. I could have went to bed tonight having killed a human being.

A teacher at my high school did! He hit a little girl and she died. He didn't drive for almost 10 years. The little girl ran out in the road out of nowhere. The parents didn't blame him. One of the saddest things I ever heard. They had been at a family gathering and no one saw her take off (happened in about a 2 second time frame) toward the road. No one could have stopped it.

Be glad that no serious injury came to her! But, it wouldn't have been your fault. That's like someone running out in front of a train.

The guy I hit was an old guy (about 80 as I recall). He walked in front of me as I was pulling into a driveway.

I stopped at the point of contact and simply knocked him down.

My insurance company offered him $16k to settle, but he refused and tried to sue for $100k.

He got $1,600.

Yeah, the police officer told me he needed to charge the woman I hit in order to protect myself from getting sued from her. You just never know. He told me she could go to civil court I think, but that it wouldn't hold any merit because of the police report showing that she was charged and at fault.

She didn't actually walk in front of the car, she ran in front thinking she could make it across before I passed. I was completely caught off guard and couldn't do anything.

yeah, some guy backed up out of his driveway into the road and hit the side of my new car. even though it was clearly his fault, he still filed a suit against me. long story short, it never made it to court. the reporting officer laughed at him and he backed down.

I came close to hitting a kid on a bike recently. He was travelling down the bike lane on the wrong side of a main road I was turning into, so he was coming from my PASSENGER side (ie, no traffic ever comes from that direction). I did glance that way, but it was dark and he had no lights. My wife saw him just as I released the brake and yelled. As I jammed them back on he passed a few inches in front of my bumper, my headlights illuminating his shins...

It would have been a relatively low speed accident but it could have been far worse because I probably wouldn't have seen him prior to the hit, and I would have just started accelerating.

I once saw a camgirl mention on chat that she clipped a cyclist. When asked if he was hurt, she replied "I dunno, I kept driving lol"

Driving in a suburb one day, three kids on the passenger side of the road walking towards my direction, schoolboys, about ten or so. Just had a weird feeling, kinda like, "What if?" So I slowed down a little and put my foot on the brake.

Sure as shit, they get ten feet away from me, and one just runs out in the middle of the road, right in front of my car! No reason, no warning, no nothing.

By the time he stepped off the curb, I already had all four wheels locked up, the car stopped with the kids hand on the front of the hood, his eyes were as big as dinner plates. He looked at me, and said, "Sorry Mister," and ran off.

I was shaking for a good half hour after that myself.

Thank all for weird premonitions.
