Treo or Blackberry?
Those of you that have a Palm or Treo can you tell me what you like or dislike about them? I'm trying to decide on one of them when a new cell provider moves into town in a few months. The blackberry to me looks alot bigger and wider and not sure how I would like that compared to a Treo. Whichone has better apps, games, etc?

the blackberry is actually slightly more compact. it is a little thicker i believe, but the treo is taller and wider, and the keyboard is smaller.
but then again, i like my PDA's like i like my women, thick and black. ![]()

damn in the pics that I seen, the treo didn't look to be as wide. I'll have to really check them both out.
Would still like more opinions from others as well. |

Depends, are you more of an organizer or an e-mail'er?
If you're more into organizing and don't rely on getting your e-mail ASAP then go with the Treo. It runs on Palms software and definately is more of an organizer then the Blackberry. As far as e-mailing goes you can DL programs that will have the Treo Poll for Pop3 e-mails ala Outlook. Some people told me you actually have to physically log-in to view your e-mail. If you're like me...and you're all about E-Mail then the Blackberry is for you. E-Mail is literally instant. I recieve it the moment someone sends it, and the moment I reply they recieve my response. It really is amazing. Its faster than text messaging . The Blackberry comes with a full featured Calendar that easily synchs with both Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook. It also comes with "Tasks checklist" and "MemoPad" both of which can be synched through Notes and Outlook. Both have HTML browsers, the only Blackberry with a speakerphone is the one available through Nextel. Unless you go with the 7100. Hopefully that answers your questions.

treo 600 (also the 650 i believe) have had recalls due to hardware/software conflicts. You can pick up a 600 on ebay, refurb, like $200...

Dell Axim, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, even CF-GPS if I need it. Email thru bluetooth on my cell phone or free wi-fi at an starbucks. And it's an organizer, with Pocket Word and Excel. Runs on Windows mobile 2003 or 2005.

I have used both the Treo 600 & 650. I still use the 650. It is a great device. I have compared it to the guys in my office that uses the BlackBerry.... I personallly think the Treo has more to offer. Go with the 650 if you are going to get one (not the 600)... The fast home & edit keys on the phone is a nice feature (on the 650)...
The camera on both of the 600 & 650 are pretty crapy.... The 650 is a lot better then the 600 but still not all that great. The VersaMail that comes on the treo 650 is a great email client and works well.... Hope this helps. B- |

I have a Blackberry and can't really say I would recommend it. It does a lot of different things, but it only does them ok.

damn. I was hoping there was a clear winner between the two. I'll mostly be using it to talk on, check email/stats when I travel which isn't that often. Check out the lines on sports games if possible and maybe make the bets. I've never used a phone for WAP sites before so I will be all new to it.

As someone that handles all the phones in our company, (3000+) the blackberry's are the clear winner. The treo's do what's called a pull for the e-mail and the quickest you can pull is 5 minutes. We have a Blackberry Enterprise Server and over 2500 blackberry's. The users get there e-mail sometimes before it shows up in their outlook on our Exchange 2003 server. The keys are bigger on the blackberry's and they are almost bullet proof. The treo's reset a lot for no reason, dropped and missed calls. There's a class action lawsuit against Palm right now because they know of all the issues with them but aren't doing anything to address them.
We tried the i730 phones and they were ok but not stable, they should just put a reboot key on anything with the windows OS on it. If you have a big enough company, get the BES 4 server for your blackberry's or get a hosting company like mailstreet to handle it for you, then EVERYTHING in outlook is synced up and you won't ever need to connect your device to your system to do any syncing. |

I travel a lot so I love my blackberry. The phone works where ever I go, and back in the states I get my email to my bberry sooner than it shows up in Entourage.
All the Penthouse Pets seem to love the Treo tho. |

I liked the treo a lot but it was a bitch for typing out e-mails compared to the keys on the blackberry. It also crashed a lot when downloading e-mails with attachments. Since we run citrix on our network, I liked it because i could access our servers from anywhere but then the i730 was better for someone like me that handles the servers because of the citrix client. I carry the blackberry all the time and use that 98% of the time but when I need to access my servers for some reason, I pull out the i730 and do it. Works good when I'm in my treestand during hunting season. |

If you want a serious business tool. Hands down treo. Anyone who tells you differently hasnt used one |

If someone loses a blackberry, they can contact me and I can have the thing wipped clean and locked over the air in real time, if someone loses a treo, all their information is there for whomever finds it. That alone is worth it for security reasons. The blackberry even has better a better radio in them and that means better coverage. And yes I've used them both, Right now I have a treo, i730 and a blackberry with me and out of the 3 of them, the treo has the most problems. http://www.mobiletracker.net/archive...palm-sued-treo Read that and see for yourself all the problems that most treo users have. The people that don't have any problems are rare. |

oh, by the way, my blackberry is a 7250. i have played with a couple other BB models, and they suck.
they are alot larger and alot of them don't have bluetooth. so if you're gonna get a blackberry the 7250 is the way to go. i think it ultimately comes down to personal preference though. i wasn't really interested in something with a camera and mp3 player, also i found the treo to be less comfortable to type on and use as a phone. just go down to the store and play with each of them a little bit. i am sure one will stand out over the other.

Are you with Verizon? We're using the 7250's also. matter of fact the 7250's are supposed to get a new firmware update sometime this month that enables EDVO.

EVDO or Evolution Data Only,Evolution Data Optimized, often abbreviated as EVDO, EV-DO, EvDO, 1xEV-DO or 1xEvDO, is a fast wireless broadband access (3G) without needing a WiFi hotspot (a common misspelling is EDVO). You are the hotspot. You can have fast internet access, anywhere. No need to find a hotspot. For example, get high speed internet access in a car, train, clients, anywhere you can open your laptop.
The I730 posted above has it enabled and it works quite well when your in an area with it. Plus if your surfing the net with EDVO, you will get all your calls also. with 1X, if your getting e-mail, your calls goto voicemail. that's another reason I like the blackberry's over the treo because it's instant. If I have a dozen e-mails that the treo is downloading and I get a call, it goes to voicemail, where on my blackberry, it get's the e-mail as soon as it arrives and I've yet to miss a call. |

Well I can't get it yet or try them out because the provider is just moving into town here. I could drive a little bit and check them out at one of their other stores though.
Either of them have newer models coming out soon as in the next 3 months that I should just wait for? |

![]() http://www.mobiledia.com/shop/lg/vx9800.html Judging from all the reviews I read I thought the vx9800 would be bigger than it looks in the pictures but it's actually pretty damn compact, just a wee bit bigger than a pack of smokes. I wasn't looking for a full-on PDA but just something that I can surf the web with, check emails, IM, and take pics with. The MP3 player and widescreen stereo theatre is a nice frivolous bonus, as is the miniSD slot for storing 1 Gig of media ;) ![]()

You are so unbelievibly wrong. The palm format of the Treo opens up to 100's of thousands of applications I can use. I can ftp to my servers, shell access, I can remotely access files off my pc , I can make quick edits on web pages or scripts that go wrong, I can hook up my treo to my laptop with PDANet and get internet anywhere my cellphone works on my laptop. They are 2 different things completely and the blackberry is a nice tool and i would argue that maybe its easier to use for instant messaging and emailing....but if you're in IT field...its not even a question And about the lawsuit thing...thats just people wanting money. Myself and everyone i know have never had a problem with it. The only people who have problems with it are the same people who get an error on their pc and think that its broken |
