must users do use internet exlorer for surfing and they can disable http-refresh and scripting! in my opinion it's just a question of time until they disable that shit, most users disabled cookies, too.

I just upgraded my ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall. The new program comes with built in functions for preventing pop-ups and blurs, cookie controls, script blocking, etc. I'm noticing these more and more in newer programs.

They're all tools which have their place, especially (ahem) diallers which have kept me in dry bread and diet coke for the last couple of years. But, like everything, they're open to the sort of abuse which happens in this industry, but they're not alone - consider:
- "free" stuff which results in a distinctly non-free credit card bill;
- paysites which promise the earth and deliver crap content;
- whether it's actually possible to deliver decent porn over a narrowband channel...

I hate popups so much, I decided to sell a program that disables them & protects privacy as well.

Dialers will go out soon, I mean 1-2 years from now I can't imagine people still using dialup modems. I mean cable/adsl is only 10-15$ more and way faster. Neither of those will work with a dialer.

I'm making ok money with the moneytree dialer.
I always assumed it would be harder & harder to sell them as time goes on. I've been with cable for over 1 year, then switched to adsl for a good 6 months. I wish I could make money forever from dialers because those minutes add up to big payment very fast. But in 2 years from now, how many people will still be using AOL?
I would think people would be upgrading all the time to get a faster connection. I hope I am wrong, but just can't picture it, when its 2004 and someone is still connecting on a 56K modem.

And that's an entirely predictable outcome to the over use of pop-up's. A blur console on entry or a console on exit might be tolerated, but people get greedy and open multiple consoles on entrance and exit, with delayed pop-up's, chained pop-up's... People going overboard with popups really force the surfer to turn off javascript or use a program that allows them to have javascript turned on
(to enjoy the positive features of javascript) but disable popups.

Try putting yourself in the surfers position. Its a fucking nightmare surfing adult sites because every second website hits you with a 8-chained popup hell. Pisses me off when I want to leave some website and every window you close will lauch a new one

Dialers will soon be working perfectly on DSL and Cable connections. Don't be so naive. I own my own dialer network and we're developing a (patent pending) DSL and Cable modem solution that WON'T require the surfer to pick up the phone and dial like current Cable/DSL solutions. It will work very much like a normal dialer.

Also in case you didn't know, only about 18% of U.S. surfers are on broadband right now, so we have a long way to go still.

Dialers have been going to be "dead in 6 months" since I can remember, yet our business keeps growing. We've offered secondary call access for nearly two years - it makes up a pretty small portion of our revenue, still.

And as for "tricking the surfer", our dialer tells them, twice, in bold text, on the front page, what it's going to cost. Less than 0.1% of our UK dialer transactions result in a call to us to enquire about the charges on the bill - I wonder what that figure is for US credit card transactions? Kimmykim?

Im with zubr, theres better sales techniques than popups. If you give a surfer a link to click they will go for that before their bookmarks. I cross advertise my programs with thumbs/text links and although the clickthrus are equal I think the signups are much better. People fucking hate popups ! Dialers make money - and although I've used them I always feel like I've steped over to the dark side when I have and try to avoid them.

Large programs such as Maxcash Ars, etc Use numerous consoles... How do you think they make there $$ and pay webmasters 35-40 a member etc..

If they didnt use consoles they would be stupid, consoles account for upto 15% + revenue a paysite takes in. ( or a smart paysite owner takes in)

Aff is larger than they are and they don't need popups. just one example off the top of my head. Real products sell without popup crap.

Industry leaders are innovators. popups are a HATED trend in this industry and leaders are developing sites that close with GREAT ratios that don't need them.

There are arguments for both sides. Popups just dont work if Java is off or the surfer uses a program to turn them off. Text and graphics will always be viewable no matter what.
