Fuck the F430. Real Men Drive The Gallardo SE...
Announced today, deliveries in Sept:
The Italian sportscar manufacturer presents a limited special edition of its successful sportscar: the Lamborghini Gallardo SE. The Lamborghini Gallardo SE (Special Edition) which is limited to 250 units is characterized by a two-tone body paint, an even more sporty interior and technical improvement. The basis for the Special Edition is the extreme, uncompromising and unsurpassed Lamborghini Gallardo. The Lamborghini Gallardo SE is equipped with a permanent 4WD, 6 speed gearbox, aluminum space frame, ESP and ASR, ABS, ABD, air conditioning, as well as two front and two side airbags. The limited Special Edition is richly equipped with standard features such as a rear view camera, which in combination with the build in multimedia screen facilitates parking. The sports suspensions with the sports steering wheel and in combination with the P Zero Corsa tire (specifically developed by Pirelli for more ambitious driving) are all standard features on the Special Edition. The long list of standard equipment comprises also an exclusive car cover. Upon request a vast range of additional equipment is available. A customer can choose additionally the robotized gearbox e.gear, as well as a navigation system (depending on the country), heated side mirrors, fully electrical and heated seats. A winter package (heated seats, side mirrors, heated wash jets, rubber floor mats, 12 Volt outlet), and a lifting system are also available. Standard tires instead of sports tires can be ordered without surcharge. The Gallardo SE benefits from several technical modifications: The gearbox is now equipped with shorter gear ratios in the first five gears, enhancing the dynamic performance of the vehicle. The result is also shown in the acceleration from 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds which improved by 0.2 seconds, achieving a top speed of 315 km/h versus 309 km/h previously. This is shown impressively on an e.gear equipped car with a new feature called ?thrust mode? (launch control), optimizing acceleration and gear change from a standing start throughout all gears. The more direct and precise steering are additional modifications carried out to improve even more the superb handling of the vehicle. The Gallardo SE will be available from September onwards. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Much prefer the Ferrari or the Astons for looks , the Lambos are just a bit too radical for my taste.

Nice Volkswagen the Lambo. Looks like an Audi too.
It's a pity that Lamborghini has ZERO heritage, when it comes to pedigree. That's why Saudis, and ... love them. They're not really into heritage much. If you just saw how pathetic Lamborghini was, in F1, or whenever they tried to race anything, in the last years, You would know why people prefer Ferraris. They failed badly. Zero technology, when compared to Ferrari. Why do you think that Italians don't buy Lambos? They're not exactly classy fast cars, nor they're the technological peak, but they're expensive. Of course, Ferrari produced crap too (348), but also some mean beasts, and some very sexy ones too. Ferrari has class, Lamborghini never had, except the Miura. It's just a cheesy expensive car, with a creepy old engine, with little research, and no pedigree. Even the website is damn cheesy. The Aston / Ford, very nice, a pity it's owned by Ford. Heritage? better than Lamborghini, but close. Who gave a crap about Aston for the last 30 years? Vantage was gorgeous, but why would people not buy them, beside English? All it takes is a Bond movie? It's like the Junk GT40 replica. It's junk, that's it. Expensive Junk, and has nothing to do with the kick ass original racing GT40. Those were other times. An Enzo costs Ferrari $350.000 to build. A Lamborghini maybe, but really maybe, $80k, a Ford GT40 supermaybe $40k. That's how much technology you have in those things. Want to measure things another way? An M3 is more noble than a Lamborghini, or a GT40, or a Aston Martin. Let's start with the ones that do not cheat to gain horsepower, the real engines, without turbochargers, or other cheap ways to get hps. Lamborghini is barely over, in this latest engine, 100 hp / liter. The Mucielago stops at 93 hp / liter. That's where a Lamborghini can get, and that's one of the reasons why Europeans will look at you in a snobbish way, when they pass you with a Ferrari, or even an M3. They'll think you're someone that made money, but have no real class, no taste, and understand little about cars. Aston's 12 cyl. is more or less 86hp / liter (Or even as low as 75hp/liter!) Aston's 8 cyl does a bit better...88 hp / liter. BMW's M3 is at 104 hp / liter...When did it come out? Ferrari 430 is 113 hp / liter, Wow! Ferrari Enzo, in 2002 had 108 hp / liter. Beat that without a cheap Turbo. That's 3 years ago. A GT40 with the pathetic supercharger trick, manages to get 101, even less than an old M3! And if you read reports, the thing fall apart, suspensions cracking, and other really crazy things. It gets tragic when you take off superchargers, such as in the Viper, you end up with 60hp / liter! The previously mentioned Renault Clio, which was also a kick ass mini car, had more power than that. I had one that had, I think, almost 90hp / liter. No wonder Renault does so well in F1, they know how to build an engine, rather than trying to glue together engines that are 200 years old, and slap superchargers in it, or use engines that are more fit for 18 wheelers. Heritage, and reasearch, you cannot beat that, no matter what. You can even hardly beat Pininfarina. He know how to design cars. The new Lamborghini really looks like an Audi prototype. There's nothing Italian in that car, beside the name.

![]() If it emotionally moves you, drive it. End of story. I've driven every Lambo produced over the past decade, each is fantastic, including the "Audi" Gallardo and "Audi" Murcielago. Can't say the same for Ferrari, which I've also driven with the exception of the Enzo. The 550/575 are bland, and far too quiet/reserved. The 360 is boring, all bark, no bite. The 360CS is louder, more emotional which I like, a tad bit faster, but is still left behind by every competitor car in the $200k price range. Pedigree doesn't mean shit unless you're a collector, and with 20,000 360s produced over the past six years, they aren't about to go up in value anytime soon. Get over it.

They're so boring that you still have to pay sticker price for a used 360, and people are offering 100k over sticker for a 430. Enzos went for almost 1.5 mil.
550 bland? 550 class. If you buy cars because they're loud, or because they look like the car that the pimp down the street has, you're on the wrong track. If you like to drive a supercar, you will not buy a Lamborghini. If you want to show off, you'll buy one, but you don't really love them. You love what they bring to you. And by the way, in that case, a Ferrari will get you as laid as much, and that includes a lot of other cars, like a BMW Z8, and a bunch of others. You REALLY cannot love cars, and drive a Lamborghini, unless it's a crazy Miura. I spent time with the people that used run the tragic Lamborghini F1 program. Believe me, they had no clue. I spent endless times in F1 paddocks, and with Rally racing teams, like Lancia. It's no Nascar, you know...It's real racing, real technology, real passion, not a joke. There're people out there that think that Rolex is a cool watch. It's a cute thing, but if you love watches, you will buy something else (If you can afford it), like a Patek. Why? Because those are watches. You can buy the Gioconda poster, and pretend it gives you the same emotions as the real thing, but it's not the same thing. It's still a flat, emotionless, poster. Maybe you can go down the store, and plug glowing neons on it, but it will make it cheesy, not the real one. Class, thanks God, cannot be purchased, or taught. Ask yourself why only certain countries love Lamborghinis, and Italians are not among them. Ask yourself why the countries that love Lamborghinis are not known to have the best taste, or the deepest cultural level. In Italy they label Lamborghini owners as butchers that made money, and they know a thing or two about good taste. Quote:

I've been to the Lamborghini factory personally, have you? Ferrari also. Both were spectacular, filled with great people who genuinely love working there. The Italians LOVE the cars, Lamborhini's chief test driver, Valentino Balboni, has near icon-status in the country. Give me a fucking break with your bullshit opinions, you're a typical ass-hurt Ferrari apologist who pissed on Lamborghini simply because their designs are more shocking, more in your face, and little girls like you can't handle a bully. Take that elitiest snob shit elsewhere. And until you actually own/drive any of these cars, which you haven't, shut the fuck up. ![]()

I'm not going to get into what I drive, I just don't want to brag :-)
Did you visit Lamborghini when they went bankrupt, and the factory was empty, or did you visit the VW plant? Or maybe when a Taiwanese owned them? Did you enjoy the 40 years old engines (Still better than the 200 year old Ford engines), or the desperados that were trying to keep those cars together. It's obvious that you're not Italian to begin with, otherwise you would not offend them by saying that they love those cheesy cars. Thanks God there's people that buy pimpy cars! Thanks God! Quote:

So it's reaaaaaaaaaaal simple for me: I get in. I drive it. Does it move me, is it exciting, is it passionate? Yes. Buy. No. Move on. I don't have a litmus test with 40 questions on it to determine what spot the factory's F1 program managed to secure in the 1978 Constructor's Championship rankings LOL. I don't give a shit about how many HP per Liter the engine is putting out. ![]() ![]() I simply drive it. If it's good, I want it. If it's not, I move on. Words to live by. Everything else is wet dream fantasies by those who dream about being Michael Schumacher in another life. Not me. I keep it nice and easy. But hey, there are probably two or three cars out of 800 currently offered that meet your lofty requirements, so, no worries eh bro? ![]()

Cars like that draw way too much attention to you.
Always better to stay low key and quiet with your wealth.

Out here in Orange County, you're not going to attract any attention in anything less than say a 360 Spyder. And even that will only get a rare question or two at a gas station. A 575M goes totally unoticed, as does say a 911 Turbo. So we're more insulated. I'd assume it's the same in South Beach, and a select few other areas where exotics are commonplace. The Lambos though are a rolling circus, it gets annoying even here. And it can be dangerous. There have been several cases where guys drift out of their lanes to get a look at them, nearly causing accidents. I even get some of that in my 2000 NSX, another car that heritage-boy above probably despises, lol, simply people assume it's a Ferrari and want a better look. But nothing compares to the L-cars, everyone I know has 40% tint on the windows to try and keep a little privacy, it gets that bad.

If you're selling drugs maybe! But if you can do it why not? You only live once, why not have some fun with the money you've worked so hard for. I would not say just throw your money around or throw it in peoples faces but i think it's good to have nice things. Some people have a passion for cars, some people put all of their money into their houses and some buy boats. Which ever it is, you cant take any of that stuff with you. |

See, I love cars too, and not only because of how they look. That's also why I differenciate. If you cannot tell the difference between the two, there's nothing I can do. You're entitled to your opinion, as well, I guess, as am I. It just happens to be different, for several reasons. I guess that you love anything that squeezes you to your seat, and makes some kind of loud noise, and I like more things that are actually fast, or that can take a turn without killing you. For what matters, I loved my old Renault Clio, or the Subaru that I had 10 years ago. They both delivered what they promised, they were both ugly, but delivered emotions, and I did not need to make them look like the car of the pimp down the street. They were worth every cent. I loved my old mini, because on the mountains, in the snow, it was pure fun, and no Lamborghini, of Ferrari could have done that. I drove lots of cars since then, and a lot of them, despite being performing cars, did not deliver emotions, or had a pathetic clutch, or a pathetic shift, or handled pathetically, or simply lost traction for no reason. It's not about being snobbish, it's not about money, it's about something else that obviously, in my miserable opinion, eludes you. That's it. I remember a Road&Track test, where they measured the heart rate on a guy that drove an F40, a 959, and a McLaren f1. Guess which one was the fastest? Not the Ferrari. Guess which one made the heart crazy? Obviously the Ferrari.

The technology for Ferrari is developed for the race track; F1. That's true history, heritage and passion and it's reflected in the car. Not everyone understands. Has a lamborghini even made it on the F1 track? At least you can start a long-lasting relationship with your mechanic if you pick up a lambo. |

BUT... Don't piss on those of us who buy these cars to simply drive the hell out of them, laughing all the way. To us, we don't care about the manufactuer's place in the Automotive Heritage Pantheon of Greatness. Far from it. We just want the most fun roller coaster ride possible. Looks are a part of that equation, and yes, some L-car owners buy the cars because the looks are so over the top that they're definitely compensating for some other....deficiency...lol. ![]() But that's not the majority. The majority loves how they look, finds the performance a perfect match, and describes driving them as an "experience" more than they say "Well it's nice, but how many times has Lamborghini won Le Mans? Ahhhh forget it then." That's the point. Trust me when I tell you that if you ever get the chance to drive a Diablo SE30, you'll find it as emotionally stimulating as some of the cars from yesteryear you're referring to. I personally don't care for them. I don't want my "fun" car to beat the shit out of me with a heavy clutch, a gear-shift that takes two hands to operate when cold, steering that require popeye forearms, and brakes that require two feet. I can see the allure for people who DO want exactly that sort of feeling though, and there are plenty of cars, both Ferraris and Lamborghinis, that deliver it. Lamborghini is not Rolex, and Ferrari is not Phillipe Patek. Very tired of hearing that bullshit from the elite. Drive what moves you, ignore brand.

I'm currently in the market for a Gallardo.Being a Porsche owner for many years, the AUDI connection is a plus to me.I don't own any wrenches.I just like driving them.
I've already decided against Ferrari for that very reason.Too much maintenance required with them. The thing I find odd about Italian cars is that a HIGHMILEAGE vehicle might have 15k on it and it is 6 years old.It seems that many if not most drivers of F and L-cars like the idea of owning them more than actually driving them.

For every "lime green" Lambo in the hands of a "rapper", I can point the same amount of Ferraris in their garages. Both are status symbols, both are purchased by the same groups, there is no "line". As far as "car afficionados" preferring one over the other, well, I choose to live my life not as a sheep, not following the pack, and when it comes to cars, I would encourage others to follow that mantra. Ferrari's F1 division, it's employees, piss on the poor saps that build the roadcars on the other end of the campus. They don't even allow them to eat together because there were too many problems lol. Very little of the engineering and F1-prowess that is developed for Formula 1 makes it's way into any roadcars, Ferrari's own people are the first to tell you that when asked. Because it's like saying that the tech in the Space Shuttle filters down into normal Cessna prop planes. They're that far apart. But it's clever marketing for sure, I don't criticize Ferrari for playing to the unknowning masses like yourself to make a few bucks, I'd do the same. Repair/reliability is identical for both marques, these are not Hondas. They need major services both for time duration AND miles passed, and labor runs about $200 an hour. Saying one is more reliable than the other is just ignorance, there is no such thing as a reliable Italian car by any standard, though the Gallardo owners are reporting 10,000+ miles per year without major issues thus far, probably due to the Audi influence. Buy the one that you personally feel best suits your needs. Take away the bullshit stereotypes, which apply to both sides, and think outside the box.

See, that's totally what it's all about. You probably spend hours deciding if you need a 30% tint, or a 40%, because with the 30%, two people will be able to see your nose better, and beg to know how much you paid for it. I'm assuming that you also have those pimpy nice shiny rims, right? Oh yeah, heritage boy here bows at the mighty class of Orange County, and how they export beauty to the World. It sounds like the fashion victim planet. They live in one of their own, and think that the whole World revolves around them.
It's Orange County, not Florence. Gee! Get real. Now I understand where you come from. My apologies, I would not have even tried to challenge you, if I knew. I thought you were from New York, or San Francisco. LOL. Tell me anything, but after this post, you cannot tell me you really love cars for what they are. By the way, tinting in Italy, on your Lamborghini, would get you straight to Jail, it's an anti mafia law. They just assume that if you use tinting on your windows you're a criminal. Ain't that funny? It's forbidden even in Sicily, where it gets really hot. Here's it's cool, and of course pimpy. Heritage boy feels for you, when you have to answer all those peasants. If only you had that Ferrari that no one gives a crap about, in the mighty powerful, culturally defining Orange County, you would not have to lower yourself to answering all those question, and having people go off road for you. What happens in Orange County if you drive a Ford Focus? Would your life be doomed? People don't speak to you anymore? I really feel for you man, I really do. What a pain it must be. Quote:

You want to avoid older Lambos and Ferraris with ultra-low mileage. They haven't been driven enough, and time is a cruel mistress when it comes to things like belts, hoses, other degradeables. Often times guys will pick up a 1995 Diablo, with fewer than 5k miles on it, and within 100 miles of ownership will need an engine-out service in order to replace the parts that have worn. Better off assigning a mileage value to it, say, 2k miles per year, and not go below it. So on that 95 Diablo, I wouldn't want one with fewer than 20k miles on it from that age. Used Gallardos are great cars, they go for around $140-$150k with light miles, and there are few things to "watch out" for besides the usual (clutch wear, make sure during the PPI inspection that the Lambo tech uses his diagnostic computer to estimate clutch life, some owners are idiots and burn through them fast due to the AWD). Keep us update, love hearing about guys buying their "first" Lambo or Ferrari. ![]()

It's a REALLY PIMPY 500 Abarth (The Fiat's racing team). This one probably had the engine sticking out in the back too. Yes, I dorve 500s too. So hard to shift. Heritage boy, almost bought one 6 months ago, in Texas with original Sicilian plates. If Orange County boy was cool, he would ride this! There was once a guy, a really classy guy, called Agnelli. Plenty of class, a true Playboy, that screwed 1/2 the planet, and every woman he ever wanted. He set standards for Orange County dudes to copy. They don't even know, but he did. He would have driven this in Orange County. Seriously. Understatement.
