I'm kidding, don't charge back that's just as dirty. I'd have bitched him out though for that service call charge.

Company needs so much per hour no matter what is being done, be it actual fixing something or just driving there and showing up to turn on a piliot light the owner forgot about. Typically the initial call/first hour is the most expensive then it goes down from there to around 60-80 bucks an hour. Seems fucking crazy and ruthless but it is just how it needs to work. Fiance owns a landscape and yard service. Several customers have postage stamp sized lawns set for weekly service. Actual mow, blow, and edge time is about 10 minutes tops. Drive time, unload and load takes a little more than twice as long. Then many more have lawns that take a half hour to mow, blow, edge. Yet both types end up paying same rate. Just works out that way once you factor in all the costs to operate per hour regardless if your working or not.

Sure I know how it's supposed to work. Customer service has been lost though. The service industry is plagued by people who just don't give a shit. Who aren't compensated to give a shit.
I cleaned pools for 4 years, it was a summer job during college and it was great money. I ran the business for the owner. There were many times where I showed up and it was something stupid that took but seconds to fix. Don't get me wrong, my customers all lived in homes worth $1 million plus. None were hurting for money and would have gladly paid me if I wanted to be a dick and stick them with a $60 service call for a minimum of one hour's time. However, by doing right right thing we were the best show in town. I was raised better than some I suppose. I know the value of customer service. That guy should have perhaps had a chuckle at your expense and nothing more. He had every right to charge her but sometimes it's worthwhile to be a bit more human.
