Filing Bankrupcy... please help...

I'm sad to say I'm forced to file bankruptcy... I'm filling out the form and wondering when estimating value of my possesions is it better to underestimate or overestimate?

I have no idea how it works in Tampa.

In Canada, they don't take essentials away from you. As long as your car, wardrobe, etc is under a certain value, you're left with those things.

If you're driving a Mercedes and furnish your house with big screens, well that shit's gone.

Cheer up, bankruptcy isn't the end of the world.

Value things as if you were pricing them for a rummage sale.

Sorry to hear that.

You want, I suppose, to beat the mid-october deadline, when the rules changes.

I don't know details of how it works in the US, but in Canada people use a syndic that takes care of protecting you and filing.
You could end up keeking most of everything, but having your credit destroyed for the next 7 years ..

File before the 15 th ( I think that is the cut off date ).

It takes 7 years to get it off your credit, but then you're basically at nothing. It takes longer than 7 years to rebuild your credit.

Could well be .. I never declared bankruptcy, but after my second ( *cough*) divorce, I considered it .... but decided against it.

A friend of mine went bankrupt ( personnal and corp ) and got a credit card before being " liberated " ...

I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of GFED

Sorry to hear this man!

If you must, gotta do it and get it over with. Then hopefully you will have dumped a bundle of problems and can concentrate on starting fresh without the baggage.

BTW... I don't know the laws in Fla on this, but if it's a situation where you are not really allowed to dump the crap and still owe - be cool and think twice!!

I was bankrupted in 1977, it was traumatic at the time but I look back at it and think it was the best thing that ever happened to me. It focused me and made me realise that hard work is what it's about.

They have to leave you with the basics, but these things are the basics.

What happened GFED? Maybe we can give you ideas to get back on your feet. There's a ton of brainpower and creative thinkers here.

Bankruptcy is the last resort and there are usually ways to rescue yourself.

We've all hit rock bottom at one point in our lives. Nothing wrong with it and sometimes it gives you a new found strength you never knew you had to rebuild.

I've never experienced a bankruptcy, but can imagine the background and ya may not have your balanced head on at the time due to other pressures - gotta be worth speaking to others before filling in forms.

It pretty much happened in the past year... I was sad of only make what I was... I wanted to start my own paysite... I borrowed some money from my credit cards... I bought some computer equipment, and camera... Business cards, etc... The models backed out... My friends backed out... I tried to do everything myself and failed... all my loan was going back into paying it back... needed more money... went on TILT...

I wouldn't pull that card unless there was no other option. If that's what put you in debt, it can't be THAT bad. How much can you really spend on gear if the models flake out? The models are the largest expense.

IMHO if it's under 30k, I wouldnt do it. Consolidate your payments and pay that shit off over time unless you are just flat busted broke and are having a hard time keeping the lights on.

Best of luck man.

How Much GFED? GFY has saved people before......I'm sure there are people
here that want to help out.......give you jobs and what not to prevent this
from happening.

Swallow your pride and let us know how much.....so people can come up with
ideas to get you back on your feet.

Do you still have stuff.....like design, content, hardware?

Come on GFED.....there's people that would like to help.....I'm not saying to
pay your debt....but if we can keep them another month away......and then
make sure you get jobs....that way you can make your own money to pay
back your debts without going bankrupt and it will give you a little headstart
to get your own life and business back on track.

Bump!!!

Cummon GFED! Ya might be surprised what can be done. Nobody has lived till shit hit the fan - we have all had it in some form or other and nothing to keep being modest about. It may sound a lot - and is when ya don't have it, but there are plenty folks here with talents/experience/work opps and more and can help get you moving again and covering the damned cards. There is more to life than bothering about cards - fuck em. What needs done GFED?

I can't believe I'm giving props to someone named "dirty white boy" but he is right. Keep in mind that this is public record. Do you need anyone, anywhere to know that you are a deadbeat?

Someone post that crazy cabbie bankruptcy filing. If you ever want to be a high success and be proud of yourself, filing for bankruptcy should be your last choice. Of course, if you have no other choice, then take it.

If you have sponsors that know you hit them up.

Seriously.... Especially if they are rev share. If anyone knows you are good for it they do.

I had a problem with a lightning strike a month or so ago - all my computers etc were fucked - 3 sponsors came to the table and basicly said 'how much do you need'.

I paid it back within 3 weeks and Lars owns my sig for the rest of my life - lol

Just ask - you have taken the first step by posting here - it wont hurt to go to the next step and ask for help. Most of the playas here are telling us how much they earn - let them put their money where their mouth is for once

Right on....you're not asking for gifts....you'll work for it to pay back.....there
is no reason to file for your bankrupcy without giving this option a go....You'll
be amazed where it may lead.....

Hopefully you'll be able to take advantage of some of the offers on the table and will be able to pull out of this.

About 7 years ago, I was very seriously considering bankruptcy. I even saw an attorney. But I decided to try to squeeze by one more month. Then another. Things sucked for awhile. Then they started sucking less.

I'm glad I held off on filing. I know how freaky it can be when the walls start tumbling. But unless you are on the verge of foreclosure, disconnection of utilities, etc, you might be better served to ride the storm out.

If you have to pull the plug. go to a lawyer for the free consult. There is a ton of stuff to do this "right". Example, you need a credit card after so make sure you have one with no debt. Same with a checking account.

Bankruptcy is a good way to get a fresh start, at least for a few more days.

Like other said, talk to a professional to look at alternatives, and make a fast move. You have no time to waste.

I knew someone who kept everything. House, car, all possessions and the creditors never fought back.

Accountant advice:
"Steal" what you can and hide it.
Meaning: Whatever you have thats valuable enough for them to take - sell it before discreetly, and stash away the cash.

Your credit will be bad for a while - so whatever you wanna start next should be paid cash for the most part, so do whatever you can to accumulate at least a bit of hidden cash for the purpose.

The card companies will usually help you set up payment plans, assuming you're able to make any payments at all. It would keep your credit from being destroyed.
