Blogging in the widest sense is here to stay because essentially it's an easy way for a web newbie to get a halfway-decent looking site online. And the scripts are perfect for the surfer who just wants an online album/vanity site.
For much the same reasons they will stay strong in the mainstream too, with everyone from political pundits through hobbyists. But there is pressure for a modification of the format. A lot of people were hoping that blogs would allow the interactivity of a message board (via comments) but with direction coming from the site operator as with a static site. Blogs obviously meet the latter condition, but generally the level of interactivity they inspire has been short of expectations. In adult, the picture blogs will prove to be a short-lived fad. Those with readable text and some real personality could last for years. |

It will be around for a long time and is a great way to spread ideas and thoughts with an interactive end to it through comments. I think it is here to stay

Here to stay!
http://www.editorsweblog.org/2005/08...ng_is_gro.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4737671.stm http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/03/te...rssnyt&emc=rss Blogging is growing every second Blogs are becoming more important. There are ever more blogs, ever more postings and most notably ever more visitors. Meanwhile blogs are gaining editorial importance. And also the advertising market is moving to blogs. As CBS states a new report by ********** found that a new blog is created almost every second. End of July ********** was tracking 14.2 Million weblogs. 55 % of these blogs are active an 13% are updated at least weekly. David L. Sifry, founder and CEO of Technocrati, says on CBS: "If the numbers continue going the way that they are, you should expect to see close to 30 million blogs by March of next year and should be seeing 2 million posts a day." In the report on ********** Sisry states that also the volume of postings grew steadily: "... at the end of July 2005, there were about 900,000 posts created each day. That's about 37,500 posts every hour, or 10.4 posts per second." And the visits to blogs seem to increase as well. According to Brandrepublic Hitwise, a online monitoring fim, found that one in every 200 web visits are to blogs. This constitutes a 130% increase over the last year. The BBC writes that "much of their appeal has been boosted because readers can subscribe to them, for free, to stay updated of any new posts automatically." Brandrepublic states: "Bloggers are increasingly breaking stories before the mainstream media or being used to exert pressure on the mainstream media. Recently stories by bloggers led to the saking of Dilpazier Aslam" (see also former posting). The BBC points out: "Blogs have played a part in highlighting issues that journalists have not covered. They have also proved to be a valuable communication channel for journalists in repressed countries who have no other publishing means." The advertising market is moving too. Today Yahoo started testing a system that "will let it place ads on Web site of bloggers" reports the New York Times. Google reached out to bloggers already two years ago. PaidContent states that "Yahoo's new service will differ from Google in that it will add human editorial to the selection of ads for content pages. In comparison, Google's service relies on technology." |

It isn't "Blogging" so much that makes for great SEO and rankings, but a few key aspects that blogging allows to be done easily. So while "blogging" may endure or not, the key elements WILL be beneficial for a long long time. If applied to ANYTHING ELSE, you would find the same results and benefits. Tested, and true.

The idea of the blog is a fad. I promise you that the term "blog" will be a thing of the past in one year. However, the concept itself will always be lucrative and enticing. But CNN will not always have the blog news cut they now offfer on TV. Baddog, I am not condemning it. I am set up to offer free hosted blogs And I will be prepared to offer free hosted werbbers if that is what they are called next.

The term blog, or weblog what it really means, was invented in 1997.
http://www.robotwisdom.com/log1997m12.html The page looks extremely like a blog to me... And this is here to stay, its not a fad, its been around for 8 years and will be around for another 20. Its just become "known" and more and more people are using it... The point here is not "oh I can make lotsa money with this by posting porn pics on it"... thats just a misuse of a blog to be honest... Blogs might die away in the adult area, but they will remain forever online. Way too many tech blogs out there for them to die away. Its just a news site really, just made by a private person, why should that go away?

just like anything else if it's done with quality and thought then it can last a long time, if it's shitty and not well thought out it dies off pretty quickly.
blogs aren't a fad, starting one might be a fad, but blogs themselves are not, just like websites aren't a fad and neither are tgp's or whatever else.

Blogs aren't "unique". It's like a goddamn categorized forum board with RSS feeds (which SMF supports now anyways). Eventually something will replace it. Most people use them because they can't even setup forum software (extracting a zip, uploading files, and running a script is difficult!).

Blogs make money, plain and simple. You just have to do it right. That's why it's never gonna go out of style. Next big trend--video blogs.

It depends -- do you mean real blogs or these fake blogs that are nothing more than a TGP?
Check my blogs list, most are nothing but a page with pictures and links to galleries, with spam on the side. Blogs are the new TGP and people are making good sales with them. Few if any redirect like a real TGP, there are no popups or spyware (since most are hosted by Blogspot or Blogger), and due to the lack of material, the pages load slowly.

I was hearing the term "blog" thrown around almost a decade ago so I guess you could say it's already stuck around. If the mainstream media has caught on to a term (I think they started blabbing about this "new" concept called blogs a few years ago) then you know it's been around a LONG time already.
Of course, there are now script that make it easier to build blogs, but online diaries have been around in one for or another since the web was born. |

It's here to stay because it's always been here. Before it was just called a journal, diary, or log.
The hype around blogging being the coolest thing on the web is a fad. I'm sure it will always be a cash crop for those that have SEO skills. |

it gives all the unimportant suckers in the world a platform to share their dull life with the whole intarweb. and because there are millions of unimportant suckers on this globe, numbers increasing daily, blogging will most definitely stay forever.

it all depends on what you call a blog...
installing wp, posting 5 items and adding tons of ads, forgetting all about it = blogging? spamming blogger.com = blogging? ... ... .... 90% of all blogs out there aren't "blogs"... |
