I have a computer problem. $20 to whoever helps me fix it.

Although Im leaving now to run errands. Ive been sick and havent been out the house in like two weeks. Now I downloaded some software from download.com in firefox and it stays on the desktop and if I try to delete it then it says "this file is being accessed by another program". Thats after a restart too. So I tried the usual going into control+alt+delete to kill some programs that might let it delete it. I also got a registry program to clean it out. Nothing works. I went into the command prompt and tried to delete and it says the same thing "file being accessed by another program". I have about 4 of these things on my desktop. I need to know how to get rid of them. Im paying $20 for your time. But I wont be around until 10PM EST tonight 9/28. You could tell me here and if it works I'll get you the $20 at 10:00 or tell me to hit you up. Thanks!

OK guessing your using win Xp.

file being accessed by another program

drop the computer into safe mode then you will be able to remove it

press or hold the f8 key on start up.. some computers use f4
or you can follow the directions here
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=sec_doc_nam

then you can go in and remove the software..
if that doesn't work

I would do a system restore to a point b4 you downloaded the software...
c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

if all that doesn't work drop me an ICQ and I'll help you out...
as for the $20 us it to but a ppc campaign and send me traffic...

take your computer, put it back in the box, then take it back to the store and get a refund, tell them you're too stupid to know how to use the thing and would like your money back.

But if you are already in dos mode for performing "format c:", you could also try to delete the 4 files by hand (c:\docume~1\username\desktop\del file.xxx or something like that)

Run this free online scan app first to see if you have some serious infections.

http://www.webroot.com/services/spyaudit_03.htm

If so, I recommend downloading the trial version or paid version of Spy Sweeper 4.0 and clean out all the malware.

http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/

My son's PC had 5 ad ware programs that none of the other progs could fully elminate. Spy Sweeper 4 identified them all perfectly and cleaned them all out in one quick run.

This is the most effective program I've used and highly recommend it.

Sounds like they could be programs that load at startup.

Try opening the programs and checking through their prefs to turn off them loading at startup.

Then reboot & delete them

Good luck to you!

It happens in XP, and a lot of times it's just that something is holding it up. Most times it is something very simple.

For example, if I upload something, and then close out ftp, and try and delete it I will sometimes get that error. So I open ftp back up, exit out of that directory. Close. Go back and delete whatever it was.

Sometimes the fact you were last on something, and you close the application on said file, directory, etc will hold it up and you get that error. So,.. without more information, I couldn't tell you for sure.

Could be as above, could be an application, could be a start up, spyware, or something else.
