Independent Server Admin Support

I'm curious to see if there is any interest in an independent 24/7/365 Server
Admin service. I'm thinking of setting up such a service. With all the hosting
threads and people bitching about their support this could be a valuable service.
some of the services could be:

Problem solving
Software installation support
Server Monitoring (Health check)
Server maintenance
Load balancing
Extensive Server/Traffic stats
Server tuning/optimizing
Security
Backup/Restore
etc, etc

Just a reliable independent service so you don't have to worry about all the
hassle that comes with maintaining your servers and checking that your sites and servers are up and running all the time. so you can concentrate on
what you do best.

95% of the case the webmaster has to inform their provider of a problem....it should be the other way around. Quick and accurate response will safe money

I pay someone $1k/month to admin my servers (9 of them), carry a cell phone and respond (proactively) to server alerts 24/7/365 before I even find out about problems. He's a fantastic admin and I trust him like a brother.

Can you give me more, for less?

Heh.. it's a decent price... if he spends over 15 hours a month we work out a price for the extra time, haven't had to do that in a long time though. It's a good deal for him too, a few hours a week of checking on the servers and maybe once a month having to log in because of an alert and he takes home an extra $1k.

I have servers that have uptime's of nearly 3 years... <knock on wood> - things are pretty stable.

That's the way how it is supposed to be.....if your servers are well maintained
and organised you can prevent a lot of problems....and notice things BEFORE
they BECOME problems.

knowing that your servers are pro-actively monitored and have someone
that WILL take care of things and makes sure your servers are healthy and
up and running gives piece of mind and increase revenue

debugging....at least not from the start...all services will be billed by hour
according an accurate estimation upfront or as monthly contracts....whatever
a client prefers. That way they can even be used one of or temporarely

Good one off projects often result in monthly contracts

As long as I stick to related small projects then the same code / tools
can benefit a lot more clients....so I get to build up a good library
of useful stuff

Understood. I wasn't looking for programming projects as per se, perharps more on the consulting/optimizing side (I can take care of the programming part). But it's best to take it outside of GFY.

DNS setup/admin (round robin/distributed dns)
Mail setup/admin
Major network testing/reporting latency, net congestion
webserver tweaking/testing (load/stress)
Provider watch.../testing and reporting of major hosting providers and networks

We have been doing that for years for our clients, its part of our service, and I know there are a few good quality hosts who do this as well. Problem is most webmasters are cheap and dont understand the value of our service and end up working on their servers 90% of the time when they should be concentrating on making money with their websites.
But you will probably get some business as I hear many many horror storys when customers move to us about their old host.

prices will be fair with a satisfaction guarantee. Time will most likely be sold
by hour/ by blocks and monthly plans....with blocks I can bill minutes aswell
instead of charging a full hour when if fact I only need minutes to solve the
issue....
