Attn: People with caps on their teeth!

I want to know 3 things about having caps put on (front 2-4 top teeth)...

1) In your opinion, do you think they are worth the expense?
2) How long were your gums sore after getting them put on?
3) Do you have any problems keeping them clean?

Finally, if they look good enough to show off... post some pics of YOUR teeth (with caps).

I will be getting them on because I've already had braces and I do not wear my retainer 24 hours a day, so my front 2 teeth have a very tiny gap between them that I would like to rid of (retainer will not fix it).

On top of that, I have a little bit of enamel left on my front two teeth (not much), and they are therefore too thin to bond together. Caps seem to be a worthwhile option.

I had my front teeth busted when I was a kid. The caps were expensive cause of the porceline and the effort to prepare the remaning stubs. They had to remove the roots and place gold posts in the roof (for strength). Spent like 6 hours in the chair.Once it was all said and done they look like normal teeth,no problems keeping them clean..unless you don't brush your teeth

while I dont have caps, my best friend just went thru a similar dilema: caps vs veneers (bc he wanted to close the tiny gaps between his front 4 teeth)...long story short, he went for the veneers and they look 100% real - it is my understanding that caps dont give the same effect when you are using them simply to close space...check out veneers - they are more pricey but worth it for that million-dollar smile! ;)

Probably. Sounds to me like he may even be guilty of a hate crime with a comment like that.

Listen here putz boy... you must be insinuating that only other races wear gold teeth? I just think they are funny looking, and I obviously am not on the market to purchase gold teeth (you should have known that when I asked if caps were expensive for Christ sake).

First, veneers are less expensive than crowns. Almost half as much. If someone paid twice as much they got ripped off really bad. Second, if you want to close a gap and there's going to be surfaces of a veneer that have no tooth behind it they will be extremely weak. Veneers look good but at the end of the day they are just an overlay and can chip or break very easily. Crowns will last a minimum of 10-15 years until you want to potentially have them redone and they are porcelain so they are stain resistant. If you have a problem with your gums receding though you want to get an all porcelain rather than a porcelain fused to metal (PFM) your dentist will know what a PFM or PFG (porcelain fused to gold) is and should also be familiar with an all porcelain version.

Side Note: I'm not sure about the strength of all porcelain compared to PFM or PFG but i'm certain they have made it to last. The pain is not any worse than having a tooth pulled and the discomfort afterward is about like having a filling done.

I've gotten veneers for all my teeth after first having braces. My teeth are checked on 6 times a year making sure they are looking beautiful all year long. They are gorgeous. I'll say their orgasmic.

I have a cap on my front tooth next to the two main front teeth (what are those called???). I've had it for about 15+ years and need to get it replaced as my gums have receeded. I really don't remember any pain. I wore a temporary one for a couple of weeks and it kept falling off though. I did it because my tooth was small and pitted from the time it errupted and was having to get fillings in it so they capped it instead. No pictures.

I've thought about getting veneers after a friend of mine got them - they are beautiful!

Unless you have 50 teeth in your mouth they shouldn't cost anywhere near that much. Price range is $500 to $1000 per tooth and that covers the prep work and the veneer the average is 600-750.

you got ass raped then.. that is unless you went to a dentist that was in Beverly Hills and then you probably got off cheap. Seriously though, standard pricing across the US is 600 average per tooth. I can't imagine a dentist charging much more than that considering the cost of the materials is about $5 per tooth

hey tgpshack.. did your dentist actually put veneers on your molars (back teeth) if so I would be concerned that you were going to a rip off artist because they are not strong enough to handle the wear and tear of your back teeth. Unless you got something other than the veneers we're talking about

exactly,

I have 2 gold teeth (molars), you really can't see them.

More expensive gold crowns are malleable yet stronger than porcelain so no cracking or breaking in case you bite down on something too hard, and gold can taper down nicer to slide underneath your gums better for a nicer fit.

No gold for your front teeth though, unless your a rapper.
