Marshal Law declared in New Orleans and surrounding areas.

It's probably just a matter of time before this happens, if things keep up the way they are going.

Looks like Katrina may accomplish what the terrorists could not.

Now, you want to talk about mind fucking millions of people? Imagine terrorist activity at the Superdome. "Kick em while they're down."

a terrorist attack anywhere in the states would be a "Kick em while they're down." deal

I saw this on another site, This is why they cant/havent yet.

'Contrary to many media reports, martial law has not been declared in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, because no such term exists in Louisiana state law[4]. Rather, a state of emergency has been declared, which does give some powers similar to that of martial law. On the evening of August 31, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin did declare "martial law" (in name at least) in the city and said that "officers don't have to worry about civil rights and Miranda rights in stopping the looters."'

It's likely the worst natural disaster in American history. They said there could be more deaths than 911.

I can understand if not agree with the looting..... but why the fuck are they shooting at choppers that are trying to rescue them?

They have suspended all boat rescues because they are being attacked!!

I was accused of be a "bleeding heart liberal" on here the other day, and I suppose I am. But even I say shoot the fuckers down where they stand.

It's absolutely horrible what is happening over there. And once again the incompetence is amazing. This was not a terrorist attack, not a sudden earthquake but a days before predicted natural disaster. Still the government of the so-called richest and most powerful country in the world wasn't able to manage a proper evacuation. Major fuck up, this is! Another one with Dubya's name on it and a lot of blood of innocent civilians on his hands...

Maybe not... but the army should have been in there (at least) 2 days ago.

As someone said earlier, we predicted this would happen right here on GFY when Katrina was still churning up the Gulf!

Most of those people couldn't leave without help from the government and were therefor forced to stay.
Bush was too busy taking a looooong holiday.

yes we should also blame the president for the weather, just like it seemed the world was blaming him for the tsunami.

you sir are a complete idiot, if people have:

a) no car
b) no money
c) no place to go

how the fuck are you supposed to move them in the matter of days?

yes everyone is the USA is a millionaire.

no matter how big the warning period, people would have stayed and tried to fight it out anyway.

brains dont grow on trees, but for your sake i wish they did.

Strange that Cuba with a lot less money and transport means seems to deal with evacuation better....

it would be illegal for the military to police the place, by law
so they have to use both police force and private force with military support

Exactly...

On one hand, you're telling everyone to evacuate.
On the other hand, you know 1/2 the people don't have the means to evacuate.

Critical thinking deems that some buses, trains, and whatnot should have been charted days before shuttling people to the next state 24/7.

For god sakes, the US is a military super super power! Something like Katrina requires OUT OF THE BOX thinking but too bad Bush isn't up to it... why weren't B52's loading people 24/7 and flying them to a neighboring state 24/7?

Like many have said... every little bit helps.

The Elec companies had people in Baton Rouge etc ready to go in after the hurricane passed... you would have thought the Goverment could have worked it out as well.

It is the governments fault for not acknowledging that there is a large poor community in New Orleans and evacuating for many of them was not an option on their own. So either provide a way for these people to leave, or be on active standby so that when the storm was done, you awere in to help all these people immediately. Neither happened.

B52's loading people 24/7 ?? really don't think B52's can haul people .....

and you don't just pick-up the phone and tell the Military to send 500 trucks to NO and it happens the next day.

It just won't happen..

You got's to have food, water and all kinds of stuff for them, if you don't then you have more problems..

I think it's called support..

Most of you people are monors on this board.

Yes... I admit, I'm a monors...

It's been about a FULL WEEK since the mandatory evacuation notice. There IS NO excuse.

The people are starving at the convention center for god sake. WHY ON EARTH CAN the US gov't not feed the people at the convention several days later?

I sympathize with the people in NO.

Looks like Katrina may accomplish what the terrorists could not.

Now, you want to talk about mind fucking millions of people? Imagine terrorist activity at the Superdome. "Kick em while they're down."

Mashal Law may be fine - especially if other laws have deteriorated, but where is the water/food/medical support? They gonna start shooting people for looting supermarkets next to get food when the govt clearly can't provide this? (Despite having more fucking resources than God!)

For god sakes, the US is a military super super power! Something like Katrina requires OUT OF THE BOX thinking but too bad Bush isn't up to it... why weren't B52's loading people 24/7 and flying them to a neighboring state 24/7?

Like many have said... every little bit helps.
You're absolutely right. It seems to the outside world that US didn't have trains or buses.
Now, way too late of course, the richest government in the world has started to organize an evacuation when still most of the land is flooded. Of course trains are of no use anymore. Only helicopters, busses and military vehicles. But where do suddenly all these brand new buses come from to pick thousands of people up? Where were they the past week??
Bush has a lot of explaining to do...

you fucking moron!
If something like this happened in Spain, people wouldn't have been WARNED 3 days prior and there would be hundreds of thousands dead.

Then you could witness a stupid government!
