I feel let down by my Government.

People are dying in New Orleans and the government is trying to figure out how much to charge us for oil.

No relief, no supplies...

Very dissapointing time in America's History.

Our own Government is failing us.
I hope this is wake up call to all Americans that pay taxes.

Yeah spend the money on Iraq "HERE" in this country....

Get the military in there to stop the looters and rebuild. Drop food and water by plane, etc.

More can be done and faster.

Seriously what the fuck are our taxes for?

I really can not watch the news coverage of New Orleans anymore it seriously sickens me.

I know America will pull through, we will do just fine but seriously Americans we goto start questioning our government and its actions and what it does with our money.

We pay taxes these asshole politicians spend it on crap and blame others with no accountability.

We are being bullshitted.

Also, many people saw this coming. The government should have spent more money on better levees and pumps, etc. The damages are going to be much worse than 9/11

Not true. they can be, but it takes an executive order, and this idiot is too busy deciding the price of gas to do any real work.

I am really not surprised by all the looting and everything in NO. The city is one of the poorest in the nation and it is crazy without a hurricane. I spent a week there a few years back and I was in several situations where I thought I was going to get mugged by a pack of people. There's a lot of cool stuff to do and see there, but man the crime is extreme.

Yeah that is extremely fucked up. Just like on 9/11 when he was at the school reading a book not knowing what to do. He says he's decisive and his supporters do also, but really isn't.

So many non thought out posts here.

Guys you got 200,000 people that have nothing. What the heck can the police do? Start shooting them? They'll swarm the cops and kill them. Arrest them? Where you going to put them? The police have no communications, no working patrol cars, not enough boats. They can't function either. You think they even give a fuck about a bunch of looters when they have probably lost everything too and have families to worry about. I bet half the cops just said fuck this and split town.

This is like a nuclear attack. There is nothing you can do. The entire civil infrastructure has collasped. There is no government when shit like this happens. You are on your own. Its called Anarchy.

They need to get the military in there now. This is "worse" than 9/11 from what I'm hearing. Thousands are probably already dead and it's going to get worse. Massive rebuilding needs to be done. The whole city is being evacuated and shut down. That's just unbelievably bad. And Bush is taking his time deciding what to do......

I totally agree. I feel disgusted to even call him our president. You can't tell me that gas is so short that it goes up this fast. Oil companies are using this as just another excuse to fuck us.

Did you see that Bush is handing out loans to the oil companies to repair the damage. Record profits and they get loans. Ya think those poor people who lost everything with get the same worry and care from our pres?

The scope of this tragedy will take time, it is unfair to say that the government does not give a fuck, we have never experienced something like this. I would hate having the job as president, Rep or Dem because this situation is just fucking beyond imagination.

What did you expect from Bush and company... its all about money

we gave 300 mil to the tsunami to build them concrete homes in place of there huts. who do you think gets all the money. the big contracts for bush's friends..it just sounds god when we say it was relief money. watch them take all your tax money. the rich only get more rich when republicans run the gov.

Very true, but don't ya think he should have been doing something yesterday, instead of selling his war in Iraq in california? Or maybe the day it was supposed to hit. A category 5 hurricane is heading towards one of our largest port cities, you would think he would be at his desk staying on top of the situation. Not sitting in crawford on vacation.

Give to the salvation army. Red Cross gives the least percentage of donations to the people who need it. They scim way too much of the top.

I don't want to think of what is going to happen if another hurricane hits this season and I think the likelihood is pretty high with the water temperature above normal. Whether this was caused by Global Warming or not, something needs to be done about it.

Nonsense. Our government has taken major action to help New Orleans. You can't clean up a destroyed city in 2 days.

A lot more can be done, but we're spending billions liberating Iraq. We need billions spent here now.

What on Earth are you talking about? The Gulf Coast has tens of thousands of National Guards at its disposal that it is preparing to utilize, what more could the military do on top of that? This stuff takes time to get in motion. My God people, what more do you want done?

You think because we have people in Iraq that we have nobody here on our homeland? You're nuts.

Ya, that's all their doing, nevermind the 4 - 6 Naval ships on the way with supplies and heavy equipment, of the special teams on the road from LA.. everyone is just sitting around, trying to figure out how much to charge for gas...

Maybe your post should be "My fellow citizens are letting me down, because they are more concerned how much gas is now, then they are about people affected by the Hurricane..."

I am comparing how much money we are spending on Iraq compared to how much money we are spending domestically. Not enough. This is just one example. THIS IS WORSE THAN 9/11 and IT IS TAKING TOO LONG TO GET AID.

You think because we have people in Iraq that we have nobody here on our homeland? You're nuts.

No I'm saying little has been done too late.

Ok. What isn't being done in New Orleans right now DIRECTLY because of activities in Iraq? Fill me in. Apparently you guys have some great insider information I don't.

What could have been done that hasn't been done? How do you prepare a whole region for a massive natural disaster within 4 days?

A whole region. Not just New Orleans. Not just Louisiana. The whole region.

Bingo. Think of what all those billions going to Iraq could be spent on domestically. They knew what a major hurricane could do and they didn't do enough to prevent it. It should have been a top priority. Why the hell do we need to spend all this money and lives in this senseless war that is going nowhere? The government itself said they are planning on at least 4 more years and that seems like a conservative estimate. WTF happened to Afghanistan where the real terrorist were?

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstrac...0894DD4044 82

We've already spent more on this fucking war than WWI
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0829/p15s01-cogn.html

and for what? The resistance should be decreasing, but it is INCREASING.

You have to be kidding me.

Scientists have been warning that a major hurricane could wipe out New Orleans for decades. Nobody did anything. NOTHING. Now that it finally does happen, you blame the current President because one day he should have just woke up and said "by golly, let's protect New Orleans!"

Is that what you're telling me?

Have a good night. Continue blaming Iraq, George Bush, and the Boogey Man. I'm sure it helps cope with tragedy better.

the oil industry has the government by the balls, if they wanted refineries built they would have had them built no matter who stood in the way

More money should have been spent preventing it a long time ago, but it wasn't. There should have been more resources for more rapid response.

I'm not sure whether Global Warming had any effect on this, but there are signs all over that Global Warming is a fact and that something needs to be done now, should have been done already, but Bush won't sign Kyoto, so we are the only industrialized nation in the world not too. Plus he won't make businesses cut emissions, instead he makes it voluntary and of course they aren't going to do it unless they are forced to.
