I've always wondered how many songs I actually like. Can't be more than maybe 1000 or two.

Maybe you should start looking into using a faster car, train or airplane if you get bored of 20GB worth of mp3 in your current car trips

ok you guys with the 20gig ipod full....

wtf were you doing before these mp3 players were out...going around with your discman and 500 cds in your backpack???

no one NEEDS 5000songs....
5000 songs = approx. 250hrs of music = approx. 10 days of music...
with a battery that usually last 5-6hrs....

sure I could fill up a 40 gig ipod...I got at least 400CD and a shitloads of mp3 on cds....and I would never listen to 99.5% of those songs....

my friend is just like that...his 20gig ipod is full, and he kept saying "Well if I ever want to listen to this or that, well at least I have it..."

well I decided to take a look at the play count on his ipod....
out of the 4000something songs....about 150 had a 10+ play count....ALL the rest had a 0 playcount....

If you are set up to download podcasts you could fill up an ipod rather quickly. Not all of us are blessed enough to be able to hear our favorite shows on the radio.

I went through the whole thread and this was the closest answer to the original question. The reason you need all the memory is for users into podcasting - say you missed hearing Rush Limbaugh in the car today... so you download the podcast - that's a three hour audio file - and you listen at your leisure - a few of those every day and...

I'm going to convince Kourosh to podcast his YNOT radio show so we are not locked into listening at a certain time or forced to go into the archives...

We have an in-depth article on podcasting in the October issue
