assuming they haven't done something to honestly warrant not having contact with them; are you nice to your parents? I ask because I have seen a number (usually male) of people I know really talk horribly to their parents. I was raised to be very respectful. I wasn't even allowed to call my mother 'she'. That doesn't mean I always was nice to them as a kid but as an adult I do my absolute best. It astounds me that people - even as adults - get away with talking in a rude manner to their parents.

i am very tight with my 'rents.. i work out with my mom daily and have dindin with them a couple times a week. same way with my brothers.. stick together like glue.

to me it's a pretty big red flag when someone doesn't have a good relationship with their folks/family.. the thought alone is completely foreign to me.

I am, they did everything they could for me and now I return the favor. I go on a holiday with them three times a year and my brother and I bought them a small house in France. And I call/mail them daily, and visit them every two weeks

i don't believe that parents automatically deserve extra respect - even though the most abusive ones i know of demand it.

my mother earned my respect - she took good care of us, taught us that reading was fun, and love us unconditionally even now. as a result, i love her and enjoy talking with her, and i'm happy to go visit regularly. i'm happy to know her - and proud to say she's my mom.

My mom is gold and I treat her that way.
My father was a hateful fuck and a pedo. Last time I saw him was about 10 years ago when he was in the hospital after having his foot amputated (complications from diabetes and pins he had from shattering his ankle falling off a roof when I was a baby) and that is only because my sister had me take her to see him. He recently was sent to prison for 5 years for multiple DUIs. Don't know how many he had, but according to what an uncle told my sister the prosecuter was trying for 10 years. Have no intentions of visiting him there and if he dropped dead I wouldn't be attending the funeral. He's where he needs to be, totally washed my hands of him half my lifetime ago.

Today I can say I do love and respect my parents.

I was a heathen in the past, but as I've grown older and older I've attempted to mend some of the damage done in the past on both sides.

Coming from a broken home where both parents were equally devisive and immature didn't do well in teaching me how important that respect and relationship is. However, that being said, it's never too late to get over it, mend fences and grow up.

it's no secret that I despise my mother. I make no attempt to hide that fact. I just simply walked away from her and her bullshit abuse, lies, and drugs.

My grandmother, who cared for me as though she were my mother, is a different story. That woman had not only my respect, but complete love, friendship, and was the center of my universe until she passed away from liver cancer in 1997. I still have to stop myself from calling her to talk about random shit. I know she's gone, but I haven't really ever accepted it, and so to me she's still with me.

Damn I miss her.

My farther was great. he earned my respect and I gave it to him everyday. I still miss him. My mother on the other hand was a manipulator and an all around spiteful bitch for a long time. I spent 30 years trying to get a little love from her but finally gave up. After not talking to her, or about her, for almost 7 years, we are finally on speaking terms. I would descibe it as civil.. but not nice.

Both of my parents are awesome, I have a great relationship with them, they are both really off-the-wall with their humor, so what most people would think of as being rude is just us having fun and being ourselves. (Like taking my mom to a strip club for mother's day)

They were the perfect parents growing up, never too strict, never in my way growing up, just there behind the scenes throwing guidance at me when I needed it and letting me become my own person.
