Can someone of the players here explain this to a goofy webmaster...

Why do we have to meet at the same time as CES??? Two, or three weeks later the standard Venetian suite costs $149

Now you are on the right train, and the right track my friend...

I have been asking this same question for 6 years.

Oh good god. I realise this is a little out of character for me but with all due respect, some of you are a little retarded at times.

It has ALWAYS been the case that when booking for January Internext, you book through Rose Tours, as they hold the block of rooms for Internext. Instead of paying $50,000 per night, you pay around $280 or so.

Here: Rose Tours, at (800) 666-0696 or e-mail [email protected], tell Jeannie I sent you... I'VE been booking my rooms through her for six years!

I completely agree, it's going to be indescribably crowded. I hate crowds. Then again, I'm not too fond of Vegas either.... LOL... Good times!

Rose Tours is owned by AVN's President Paul Fishbein's best friend Hal - right Aly?

I am sure he doesn't kick back AVN anything for the rooms he books there either....

bahahahahaha

I do like Hal though.

Why did AVN Choose to put the show on during the same time as CES. CES is Las Vegas largest tradeshow and people are correct that taxi lines will be 1hr if you are lucky. It is not to late to make it the Week After CES?

If you can explain why the change at least we will understand what AVN was thinking by changing the format after 6 years?

Thanks Ron. To be very honest, I don't like it very much myself. My understanding is that it's a reflection of the industry converging, and all that jazz... but I'm really not here to BS you, so I'll have to give you a better answer after Florida when I track down the show management again (they're mid-transit right now). I understand a value in having the entire industry together at once, but the logistics etc are going to be crazy.... and I really do have a big problem with crowds. That said... perhaps we'll all find a few more biz opps in such a large crowd. For those who like to do both shows... at least your length of stay/ room costs will be a little less...!

AVN thinks that people are all making $100,000 a month still-

They still think it's 1998-
Newsflash...

i dont see how costs will be less with the three shows on at the same time everything in las vegas will be at premium prices and rooms will be a nightmare to find at a decent rate for normal punters

here is a little hint

if you don't worry about fancy shit like I do...there is a hotel DIRECTLY in front of the venetian, Gold something or other, that has rooms for like $50 a night...and their parking lot backs into the front door of the Venetian...takes like 3 minutes to walk there

i forget the name, but we have stayed there twice now, and always walked in and got rooms, never needed reservations.....it is a typical motel6 style place...

yeah ive heard about that hotel and im sure theres a million places to stay but honestly if they pushed it forward 1 week there wouldnt be any issues - i like to stay in nice places - im travelling far enough and sure i can write some of it off as taxes but thats hardly the point .. if i wanted to go to ces id go a week early and go to that show .. i dont want too - im not in the technology mainstream gadgets and whatever else theyre showing business - im in the adult industry .. so adult shows are what i want to go too - more specifically the adult webmaster shows - not the surfer ones like avn is ..

Thats why im going to florida because i know that the show is the quieter of the two and im looking forward to staying IN the hotel where the show is on and having all the seminars - events - parties and people on my doorstop to make full use of my trip and do as much business as i can

The other thing I really would like to see changed and why I'm not going to Vegas anymore is that I have to stay in a fucking line for hours. Even if you think you have the best passes you can ever get. I prefer to pay my own drinks and stay with some cool people than to stay in those fucking lines with 3 million newbies
You hit that one on the head! I gave up on Players Balls about 3 years ago. It's the same story every year, and always with an excuse afterward that "it was the hotel's fault... not ours!"
I ended up going to the one in Vegas 2005 only because that's where most of my friends and coworkers were going, and there wasn't much else going on at the time. I got in quickly because of the influence of a friend, but after 10 minutes I ended up leaving to find someplace I could sit, hear, and buy a beer for less than $12. Like I've always said, I've got no problem paying for my own drinks, but I do have a problem paying 3 times the normal price just for the hype of the "Players Ball".
I much prefer smaller, more familiar suite parties.

Oh, I've no doubt that they are successful, and probably very profitable as well. If there weren't 20 waiting to get in for every 1 who doesn't want to go, there would not be such a wait to get in. But how long have you guys been doing these parties now? I'd think you'd have it a little more streamlined by this time. But every year it's the same.
I personally don't get the hype... the Players Ball is not my kind of party. It's overpriced and overcrowded. But even so, I know plenty of people who look forward to it every time.

I like the Players Ball... Now send me my bloody card already, it's been over 3 years!

Here's why the AEE and Internext shows are running at the same time:

I got in quickly because of the influence of a friend, but after 10 minutes I ended up leaving to find someplace I could sit, hear, and buy a beer for less than $12. Like I've always said, I've got no problem paying for my own drinks, but I do have a problem paying 3 times the normal price just for the hype of the "Players Ball".
I much prefer smaller, more familiar suite parties.
I can tell you that you didn't pay extra for the hype of the Players Ball. The Players Ball is held in Vegas at their busiest time of year with CES going on and 2 adult conventions. EVERY Vegas night club jacks their prices up because Vegas is packed. It has absolutely nothing to do with the hype of the Players Ball, they have no idea what the Players Ball is when I change to a new venue like we did the last 2 years.

But hey, I'm encouraged by your email because if the perception out their is that the Players Ball has a ton of hype, then I'm doing my job as the Players President.

Keep an open mind in the future and try it out again. I'm always hoping to find the right venue and cast of help around me to prevent waits in lines. I'm hoping our NEW venue in 2006 will end the waits.

PS the Players Ball was created with the Players of the industry in mind-

It is a venue for the "whales" and VIP's of this business to do business with one another and let off some steam. It's a celebration of our occupations.

Missy I can guarantee that if your last name was Cadwell, or you worked as an owner of a major company with lot's of traffic, your night would have been a lot better.

I don't mean to sound pretentious, but it's just the way it is. The reason we have so many celebrities in attendance, the headline talent that we have, and the areas roped off for the "players" is because these people respect doing business with professional, successful web companies.

It's always a treat when players meet.

AVN is the .XXX of our business

Now they want to ghettoize us into being with video porners-
So the next time Rob Black gets in trouble, or Max Hardcore gets indicted for something we'll be grouped in with them.

This seems fair to me-LOL
Funny thing is if the shoe were on the other foot, and video companies got grouped with us at Internext- would any video companies be scared that they can be in trouble for sending spam?

Of course not-
AVN wants to cover the entire industry with a PORN umbrella the way I see it, which is totally not the way to go-
For starters-Internext is a community of webmasters
AEE is a community of porn video companies and looky loos' who feed off the exploitation of women ( pornstars) to me they are the blue collar side of this industry-

Webmasters exploit surfers- not women. If anything, AVN should do a consumer web show where the end users are all surfers with Gold Credit cards that can sign up at any booth in Vegas to see whatever sites they wish to see.

Instead what you will be seeing are 5,000 guys with CES badges coming to scope out porn stars and not doing any business-

Aren't we as an industry out to better ourselves and make more money by ingratiating ourselves with more online adult companies? Why do we need to be side by side of porn video companies?

How many of these porn companies need a web presence?
I know many people who sell these adult companies' content to webmasters already.

Do they really think we are stupid enough to believe that a Red Light District Video or Anabolic needs to talk to us about more traffic to their websites?

It's absurd, it's bullshit, and I know even Aly smells something fishy about it.

Don't be a bunch of sheep- AVN is lying to you once again.

And that attitude clearly rubs off on your parties, and it's exactly that type of attitude that I try to avoid. I know you could give a shit about what type of attitude I (or any other little person out there) cares about, but let me ask you this... Out of the thousands of the people who attend the Players Balls... how many of them are "Cadwells"? Very few, obviously. So what about the majority that makes up the rest of the party?

Your brother obviously wants to make his parties the best they can possibly be... for everybody, not ONLY the big players. And even if he means what you say, at least he has a tactful way of saying it. You could learn something from him.

Stay across the street at Treasure Island. The prices are significantly lower. I already booked my room.

Nah- My bro is a diplomat
I call it the way I see it-

Point is- maybe you'll aspire to do more business with our sponsors in the future, if not us-
We do this party for a reason
and it's BUSINESS

More HUGE business deals go down at a Players Ball than anywhere else in the tradeshow-
and that's a fact!

Missy I don't mean to sound rude or flippant- but we have had a lot of people get into these shows as well that don't belong there- and they are usually the first to come here bitching about something-

Hit me up Missy- [email protected]
I'll make sure you get in to this years show and I will introduce you to some real Players- and you'll see what I am talking about
and there are a shitload of whales that do not advertise in AVN or even post on boards-
and yes, D$ and I know them all....

Well, my view on why the Players Ball was created had the intent for only the biggest players to attend (only 20 to 100 people), which is what KB is probably referring about when he speaks on my behalf, which he really shouldn't do.

BUT, once the huge budgets starting happening I wanted to open the event up so that EVERY player or potential player had an opportunity to come and have fun. Which means big or small, I wanted everyone to attend and always had venues big enough to hold EVERYONE.

The last 2 years we limited the party to only 2000 people and that was a guest list created by the sponsors. They had the passes to give out.

I've worked hard over the years to please everyone with this event and I realize I can never please 100% of the people, though I still try very hard.

Players don't always have money or sign ups, sometimes they develope into the player years later. I see a little bit of player in everyone.

I agree that there are a lot of people coming to the shows that don't belong there. But I am not one of them. I may be a nobody, but I've been working for a fairly large adult company for the last 4 years, so please don't mistake me as one of those freeloaders who come to the shows and parties just for handouts and free booze.

I sincerely appreciate your offer and effort. I am not new to this industry. I have met many of the "real Players", but until or unless I am ready to do some real business with them, I have no desire or need to waste their time. I could meet them today, and tomorrow they would not even remember my name.

I guess my whole point is that this industry is made up of a lot more than just the big players. The person that you may treat disrespectfully today because you feel that they are not a big enough player may well be the person that could make or break very important deals with you in the future. You just never know what the future holds for all of us many "nobodys", and we all had to start out somewhere.

I agree 100%.

When I start to issue out Player Codes I'll be sure to give you the VIP passes (if we have VIP this time). So whatever I can do for you, I will.

Feel free to hit me up anytime to redeem them, probably in the next 2 weeks I'll begin that process.

And that's why you have my respect.

One of my very favorite people in this industry is the one who took us under his wing at our very first show and showed us the ropes. He did not care that we were just starting out, and he didn't care that we didn't make more than a few hundred dollars at that point. He saw potential in every person, and treated every person with equal respect. And in return, he will always have my respect, however little that may be worth.

I've always detested having the shows bunched together in Vegas.
The Consumer Electronic Show alone makes overcrowding a nightmare... and really, for the AVERAGE porn webmaster what?s the upside of having spill over attendance from them?
Very little, yet the price hikes they must put up with to accommodate it (hotels, booth prices etc) far outweigh pretty much everything they?d gain from it.

Doing the math for most porn membership sites, it simply doesn?t add up

I?m all for changing the dates to a few weeks down the calendar
