That's funny. I was just reading this article earlier: Emigrating To Canada . I would so love to live in Vancouver. But I am American, and I suppose I could live in Vancouver according to this article. But there would be a lot to go through. I figure, why not turn the tables, so many Canadians come live in the USA and hardly any of us move up there in comparision. It's a beautiful city. I've talked to Itchy about Vancouver before. Where Itchy.

Vancouver is alright, the city it's self is nice. Violence is increasing quickly though and Vancouver will closely resemble a major US city in that respect soon.

Public transport, although it doesn't matter to me, is terrible here. I feel sorry for anyone relying on it to get around.

Here's a clip from the KatKam.ca a few minutes ago. Looks like the Pride Parade is on today!

The violence isn't so bad. I still feel safe walking alone in most of the city. Even Main and Hastings is fine during the day. I was down there for a friend's gig a few nights ago and the four of us girls felt fine walking down Columbia to the ATM machine. There were cops EVERYWHERE, just saying hi to the homeless people and keeping a presence.

Meh, if you stay out of Surrey and watch yourself at some of the clubs things are fine

I personally loved living downtown, much nicer than Burnaby where I lived before. Not much violence/crime in the west end, and no need for public transport as everything is within 5-10 minutes ;)

Vancouver Island is the best island to visit in North America, according to the latest Travel + Leisure magazine readers' 10th-annual survey.

The island ranked sixth world-wide in the survey by what's arguably the top U.S. consumer travel magazine. The good news for Vancouver Island tourism doesn't stop there. The only three Canadian hotels on the survey's top 100 worldwide are from the island.

The survey's impact has been felt even before the August issue hits the stands, according to Deirdre Campbell of Tartan Communications, a Victoria public relations firm specializing in the travel industry. The phone has been ringing at the Malahat's Aerie Resort since it was among those featured in a preview of the awards earlier this week on NBC's Today Show.

"People are calling, and saying 'where's Vancouver Island?' and "how do I get there?' " said Ms. Campbell, who has The Aerie as a client.

"We truly couldn't afford to buy this advertising," said Tourism Victoria's Melissa McLean even though Victoria, at ninth spot, lags four behind Vancouver as a North American destination.

"It's very significant because the U.S. market is on decline, so any exposure we get is wonderful," Ms. Campbell said.

Travel + Leisure subscribers rated islands on natural attractions, activities and sights, restaurants and food, people, and value. They evaluated hotels on rooms and facilities, location, service, restaurants and food, and value.

Awesome article, I've been considering moving up to Canada as of late. Just got in touch with an immigration lawyer in Victoria, where I would like to end up. Take the $ that the sites make and open a B&B or small hotel. yep.

Vancouver's livability puts it in the top rank of North American cities; four other Canadian cities make it into the top 10.

For the third year in a row, Vancouver has been ranked as the city with the second-best quality of life in the world.

According to a survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Vancouver ties Vienna for second place, behind top ranked Geneva and Zurich.

The annual survey grades 215 cities based on 39 criteria, including safety, public services, schools, climate and recreation.

Mercer prepares the survey for governments, companies and organizations looking to place employees on international assignments.

Vancouver is the top-ranked North American city, but the four other Canadian cities included in the survey, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Calgary, also made the top 10.

Vancouver is no stranger to the top ranks of the survey. It placed second both last year and in 2003, third in 2002, and ranked first in 2001 and 2000.

The survey uses New York City as a base case, assigning it a grade of 100. Because many cities receive the same numerical grade, tie scores are common. The 215 cities included in this year's survey are distributed to 109 ranks. New York City placed 13th.

The two Swiss cities tied for first place with grades of 106.5, edging out second place Vancouver and Vienna, which each scored 106.

The other Canadian cities weren't far behind, with Toronto in seventh spot with a score of 103.5, Ottawa ranking eighth at 103, Montreal in ninth at 102.5, and Calgary ranking tenth at 102.

The only other North American cities to crack the top 10 were Honolulu and San Francisco, which joined Calgary in the tenth position.

Baghdad was deemed the world's worst for quality of life, scoring a paltry 14.5 to capture 109th place.

Luxembourg won top honours in a special ranking of cities based on the quality of their personal safety and security. All five Canadian cities included in the survey tied for sixth in the safety list, making them the only North American cities in the top 10 of that category.

The safety rankings are based on internal stability, crime rates, the frequency of terrorist attacks, the quality of law enforcement, and the degree of personal freedoms.

When I grew up in the 80's there were just as many stabbings & shootings( if not more) in the club scene; they just didn't get reported by the media as much as they are now. If you look at the stats; violent crime is on a downward trend. Don't fall for all the media-hype BS like the rest of the sheep

There were just under 500,000 people that came out for the fireworks last night and around 100,000 today for the parade and there was NO STABBINGS, NO GANG HITS and plenty of single women walking around semi naked without any harrasment.

The stats and my eyes don't lie, Vancouver is amongst the cleanest safest cities in the world. We have a problem with excessive amounts of drug addicts that have made their way to Vancouver because they can live on the streets year round because of the warm climate here... and this problem centred around Hastings Street is improving and they are building more and more treatment and low cost housing places there...and already you can see a huge improvement.

Don't indict a whole city as shit because of one sad side to it. To reduce my city to a stupid sound bite about Hastings is pathetic.

hershie Confirmed User Join Date: Jun 2002 Posts: 4,642	There were just under 500,000 people that came out for the fireworks last night and around 100,000 today for the parade and there was NO STABBINGS, NO GANG HITS and plenty of single women walking around semi naked without any harrasment. The stats and my eyes don't lie, Vancouver is amongst the cleanest safest cities in the world. We have a problem with excessive amounts of drug addicts that have made their way to Vancouver because they can live on the streets year round because of the warm climate here... and this problem centred around Hastings Street is improving and they are building more and more treatment and low cost housing places there...and already you can see a huge improvement. Don't indict a whole city as shit because of one sad side to it. To reduce my city to a stupid sound bite about Hastings is pathetic.
