UnifiedStats... 100% secure?

As you might know they advertise their service as 100% secure. Everybody knows that nothing is 100% secure but I'm wondering why they send their users' usernames and passwords to 3rd parties?

If you clicked on any of the sponsor links listed on their splash page in the last 2-3 weeks, your UnifiedStats username and password is displayed in the referrer logs of the sponsors. So, if you use the password you use for UnifiedStats for anything else and clicked any link on their splash page in the last two weeks, you might want to change your passwords in the other systems.

When people starting cancelling their StatsRemote subscriptions, you knew he'd have to resort to something.

It's obvious what his intentions are with this thread.

So, you're saying that people shouldn't be made aware that their username and password have been 'shared'?

I'm sure it will be fixed very soon. Each time I load my Unified Stats, there's a new version available. Thanks for making this shit free John

Sure. But seeing it come from you and seeing that you're in there picking their program apart...it's obvious what you're trying to do.

I know what you mean and I knew people would say stuff like this before I started the thread but ask yourself this question... should I have waited until somebody else discovered it and they keep 'sharing' the usernames and passwords of their users? Doesn't make sense to me

I know they're your competition, but you could have done the right thing and contacted them directly...if your intentions are what you say they are.

OK, so let's say I would have contacted them. What would have happened? They would have fixed it and people would have never known that their passwords had been shared.

John has been pretty upfront and honest. If you had contacted him and he fixed it, I would put money on him mentioning it and explaining it in full detail.

Point is you have a vested interest in unifiedstats failing. I agree if there was something wrong the proper way would of been to contact them.

Now i did the same thing as you have in your screen shots and my id and pass didnt show up. Is there something more to this?

Probably just because it was part of the program when he initially launched it.

Isn't one of the first lessons of Internet 101 to not use the same passwords for logins anyhow?

I really don't see this as a big deal unless you're doing just that and this thread is really just JB looking to sling some shit at a competitor who's program has probably put a hit on his wallet.

UF people are working their asses off to provide a free tool for webmasters, I don't really think they would be so stupid as to share passwords because that is not their business, these guys are one step beyond. Haters everywhere...

Right click in the right window after you start the software, then select 'Properties' and look at the URL.

When you load the main page, check the browser url bar. You'll see what he's talking about.

Click any link and that url will show in the ref logs of the link clicked.

The sharing is done accidently... it's just how the Internet and a browser work. When you visit one site, and click thru to another, they have certian headers that are forwarded. That's what's happening here. However, it can be prevented

This does not happen for me. I only see the login and pass if I click "Support" on the tree...and it shows up in the browser URL.

Just as a side note, what does it matter if my Unified Stats username/password became public in a sponsors referral logs? The data Unified Stats downloads is stored locally to my machine and not stored somewhere online.

Well, it seems like nobody else noticed so far. Maybe other people noticed but didn't care. Maybe sponsors already saw the URL's including the usernames and passwords in their referrer logs but didn't care or didn't know what to do with it. I don't know.

exactly what i was going to say... as far as i know the unified stats login/pass is only for authenticating that you are allowed to use unified stats.

Unless you're an idiot and use the same password for everything...it doesn't mean a thing.

Again...showing us all exactly what J.B.'s intentions were.

an easy fix would be to take the support link off unifiedstats.com page, or make it so the software cannot see the link.

and then have a button or something in the software for Support that POSTS the username and password to the page. then it won't be carried in the URL.

hope this helps John.

This thread certainly don't wanna make me buy stats remote ... the way you handled things so far on the unifiedstats project were a bit too radical if you ask me .

So John posting that this was a problem (like some of you believe he would) wouldn't be seen?

Of course I agree with that. I just simply am pointing out that it would have probably been no different had John posted this himself as far as exposure goes...

Well, it seems like nobody else was aware of this before. Is it a bad thing that people are now aware that their password might have been shared, so that they can change it in other systems if they used the same password?

I'd be interested to know how many people dropped from his subscription list month to get him to stoop to this.

No one is questioning what you did, they're questioning you the way you handled it.

You can download your FREE UNIFIED STATS PROGRAM HERE.

So long as you have use an original password, there's nothing to worry about.

John makes almost daily updates, so I would bet on this being fixed really soon.

If you want a free solution to stats checking that only gets better with each passing day...check out UnifiedStats.

You've got your work cut out for you JB, maybe they'll let you help Beta Test: http://xprofessionals.com
