I'm right on Lake Eliz... you know there's a killer 9 hole executive golf course there now... one of the redeemed factors of living here.... I can walk 5 minutes to play golf at any given moment.
|
NO SHIT!?!?! Can you still rent paddle boats and shoot at ducks with paintball guns? Is that crazy little jungle path wetlands experiment turned shooting gallery (and I don't mean guns here) still there? WHoa there was boat docks there and everything...What about the bigass peach orchard and mud pit pond behind fremont bart??? did they ever develop that?
I actually heard that Niles actually grew up/got cleaned up a bit...is that huge chemical factory still there? Munoz Liquors? Joe's Corner? Niles Station? |

and the FPD is building a new jail behind their already massive dept building, cuz the other one is crumbling. |
WOW! Time has passed for sure...Niles elemetary? Centerville MS? Washington HS? Coyote Hills? What about Shinn Pond and all the quarries behind Niles elementary and Niles Park? Fully Developed or is that Alameda creek area still the Rapists Playground it was?
|
oh, and dig this if you haven't heard.... Bart was approved for expansion to San Ho... so there will be transit all the way around the Bay now.
|
Holly Shit...that's sweet...wish it was that way when a skateboard was my mode of transit...

Amp,
What do you think about the flashy doodads, (lil rivots, screws, wires, extra shit) that's becoming so popular? When you say you get what you pay for...well if one pay's for this stuff...do you think its justifiable in an earning sense...do you think those extraneous things pay for themselves? Do you think they contribute to the sales impact of a design or do you think they could Detract from the sales of a page? What is your stance on the line between a little sprucing up and a little overkill...? |
Quote:
That's a common misconception. Just because the rivets and shit look cool, doesn't mean it going to work. Stuff like that is NOT a design. A design is a thought out, planned combination of visual effects (shit that's pleasing to the eye), and subliminal "guiding". Color combinations, text placement, type styles, subtle backgrounding, texture..... all of that shit. Watch some tv commercials. Do you think for a minute that they just found some cool looking shit and threw it up there? No. That shit is crafted in a way that makes you want to buy a service or product, even if you may not realize it. Radio is exactly the same. Except it's done with sound. I used to produce radio commercials. It's an exacting science. You can't just toss in all the coolest sound effects because YOU like them... it's planned. Putting machine gun fire in a spot for vaginal cream would be considered overkill. And it won't sell the product no matter how cool it might sound. Radio spots all sound like fun & games when you hear it.... but that's the product of perfectly executed marketing. Web Dev is no different. It's an art... not slapping up all the latest gizmos to see if they work. And I don't mean art as in "someone's artwork" as was previously argued by someone else in another thread. Marketing is NOT your fucking art. Save that for sticking on your refridgerator with magnets. Marketing a product or service successfully has NOTHING to do with someone thinking their design is a piece of art. It's either properly produced, just like a TV or radio spot, and it works, or it doesn't. End of story. Anything else about "but I'm an artist" is just ego feeding or excuses. |

I once took a summer class at sfaa called the psychology of design "implementing human nature" and it was quite interesting...and I concur with your answers...I think it is a fine line and one which both sides of can be played...thatnks fer the iniste tho...
|
Amp, thanks for some motivation. :) I'm pretty new to the biz, but I want to be successful in it. Your thread has reminded me of what I need to do to if I want to achieve my goals.
Great Post! :thumbsup |
Blah blah blah blah
I have to get back to working hard now! |
I'm just in it for the naked babes. Is that so wrong?

Heres my reply to the original post:
I remember starting out in this buisness over 2 years ago when I stumbled upon some softcore sites while making a "Joke" site. I liked what I seen and decided to get into porn sites just because I wanted to see how all the money was being made. I didnt have anyone show me how to make a site or how to trade traffic or where to trade traffic or the fact that trading traffic even existed. No one showed me a manual on webmastering or webmaster ethics. No one showed me how to make pop up windows and that if I posted a message in a BBS that everyone would laugh at me. No one showed me what programs make you money and what programs will fuck you. No one showed me that using illegal Playboy images would have APIC World wide after you:) Its learning experience for everyone. There is no school we can go to to learn how to become an Adult webmaster. When ever we learn some new and effective we keep it to ourselves. Dont tell anyone because it might cut into our profits. Unprofessionalism is as common as boneprone scratching his balls. Hold on while I have a drink of beer.... In this buisness you have to pick up tips on your own and trial and error is key. No one will show you what it takes to make it in this buisness unless they profit from it. Its a cruel buisness but I'm doing just fine...thanks! |
AMP surely you must have other skillz then design if your ego is so high at this point, what other sites do you own? do you have 100 000 SE traffic? do you own a major paysite? surely owning a design company wont change the world.
|
Teadrinker, I don't know if Amp has all that, but if you have 100,000 in SE traffic I'll give you this $1,203 Click Cash check just to find out your secret!
You have to cash it though. |

I agree w/ what most people say here. I got into this biz almost 2 years ago thinkin' I was gonna be a millionaire, but reality set in quickly, but the funny thing was that I really enjoy doing this! I have a regular day job, so I only have time to do this on nights & the weekends until one day when it finally takes off. So I don't make a killing @ this, but I enjoy it. It's a challenge to be constantly learning new things, running into the road blocks (although that can really blow @ times), learning how to manipulate traffic, rank in the SEs, learning new design techniques...and I could go on & on! Not to mention the eye candy!:winkwink: But I have the constant drive to keep progressing, learning & expanding...and I love every minute of it! And I know one day it will pay off in just more than being proud of what I learned & what actually worked out to my benefit. |

I wish I could have read this thread earlier...
Going back to Amps original posts, excellent wisdom and advice, I just wish I didn't have to feel put down by his remarks against teenagers in the porn business (me being 19) BUT I know his statements are really in regards to lazy half-assers/cheaters who don't know anything about business and I just somehow got stereotyped in there. I realize how new I am to everything, but I'm trying to create a good foundation of knowledge and experience to build a legitimate business out of all this. And Amp, all our designs are "Art Work" we're just prosituting the talent for $$$, I'd do it for free but then I would be everyone's slut :winkwink: |

From what I've seen of your stuff, Amp...I really like it. Nice original work! Doesn't look like the same ol' shit.
I'll hafta talk to ya about some design work when I'm ready. I'll hit'cha up on ICQ when the time comes for some kinda quote... :thumbsup |
I think people need to read this again
|
Thanks for bumping it, I wasn't here to read it the first time. 3 pages later, I'm glad I did. Great thread!
|
I agree with AMP 100% on everything hes said. I'm not in the porn industry, but to be honest with you (and I know you've allready said this isnt about competion) personally I love those other people who dont put the energy into their sites, cause it just makes my company look much better! It also makes customers appreciate what we are offering them and they are willing to pay higher prices, meaning more profit for us.
AMP sounds like he really cares about the lazyasses out there, seems like he's trying to convince them to work harder. AMP let me ask you a question: WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THEM? Untill they figure out themselves that it takes much more than what they are doing to succeed, no one elses advice is gonna make much of a diffirence. I say we just focus on our own success and let them figure it out themselves. I may be wrong. Peace, Alex |
Excellent post, Amp! It lead to a very intelligent, rational thread, as well... what a breath of fresh air! :)
|
I'm too lazy too read this so I'll just reply to AMP's post. Would this be a shortcut? Anyway, I think that there is a lot of logic behind asking a repetitive question. The reason is technology is growing at a fast rate and shit happens. For instance: if there was a post on how to make a exit console yesterday and another today. It's possible that someone might have a better answer. Like a better script that is compatable for all browsers. Considering programming evolves. Another post seen around is who is your host and which is better. I think this is a perfectly legit question. Even tho it's brought up a lot, maybe a host today did'nt exist yesterday or vice versa.
Everyday has potential to have a better answer to repetitive questions. :thumbsup |
This thread is from January. You're free to read it or not to read it, like anyone else, but I'll not pick up where a 10 month old topic left off. I accomplished everything I set out to with it already. :)

Since I made the dumb-ass decision to get into this business three months ago, I've been working every minute I can possibly spare. I've been reading everything I can get ahold of, learning -- both by example of what to do and what NOT to do -- as much as I can about the marketing/business/technical/content/customer psychology of the porn biz. Make no mistake, I don't think this is going to be easy, and I don't expect to make bank my first month after my site goes up -- I'll be shocked and amazed if I make bank within the first year -- but I know from reading and keeping my eyes open and my brain in gear that I have niche content that will sell, if I work my ass off and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. I've built and torn down more site designs than I can remember, I'm up to my fourth build of the site tour and I still don't think I have it right, I live on coffee and cigarettes and with my husband telling me *again* to turn off the goddamned computer ferfuckssake and get some sleep...but I am going to do this. I have put my mind to it and I will make this work. I have faith in myself and my ability. (Most of the time...there are those times when I hang my head and wanna shoot myself for ever coming up with this stupid idea...) So yeah, I think I have what it takes. Who knows...I'm still working on design and content, nothing is even up online yet, and I may be singing a different tune if my site tanks and I lose it all...but I'm working hard, and I know it's going to pay off. Hopefully I'll make it to InterNext in January (I'd better, I live near Vegas!) so if you see me there -- I'll be the short fat chick, probably the only woman for a 10 mile radius wearing flat-soled shoes -- ask me then how my site is doing. :1orglaugh |

I don't have any girlfriend since I started in this biz, and it's a good thing. There's no way in my mind you can work 12 hours + per day with a girlfriend... if you love her just a little. |
