There is a 'good' type of cholesterol, HDL, and it's better if it's a little higher. The target for LDL, the 'bad' kind, is low though.

Well, if it's any measure to gauge by, years ago, I had a total of 310; now, with minor watchfulness over what I eat, along with 25-35 miles a week of jogging/brisk-walking, and a Lipitor pill every night, my total is down to 147 and my good (i.e., HDL) is at 55. So, my doc was happy with those figures if that's any relative point to consider in your situation. Of course, my age might be another factor--I'm 65.

everyone needs a balance blood chemistry.. it's like sugar/glucose
too low or too high will affect your acid base balance (the concentration of blood electrolytes) which in trun affect the whole system...it's a domino effect

Doctors have long warned about the health hazards of high cholesterol but a growing body of evidence indicates that very low cholesterol can be dangerous too, according to a researcher at Duke University Medical Center.

In a study of 121 healthy young women, Duke psychologist Edward Suarez found that those with low cholesterol levels -- below 160 mg/dl -- were more likely to score high on measures of depression and anxiety than women with normal or high cholesterol levels. Normal cholesterol levels are considered to fall within the range of 180 mg/dl to 200 mg/dl.
