I would be careful with WU, if something goes wrong there is pretty much no way you will get your money back... and it's prefered payment option for scammers... if possible try to pay with credit card or paypal, or get a friend from the US to send the guy a check...

Just take advantage of the secret question option. I've always wanted to send a WU to someone just so i could use the secret question option. Let the person know that the answer is Teabagging. So when they go to pick up their WU...

"Now for the secret question. What is your favourite sport?"

Teabagging =\

Classic.

Unless you trust the other party 100%, as in he is a friend or someone you've done biz with in the past; do not send money western union. It's a haven for scammers and money laundering, and illegal transactions. All the other person has to do is a give a fake name or fake biz and he takes off with your money, you will never see it again.

Sending money to an unknown person by WU is like burning it, never do it!

Secret question option doesn't mean shit, scammers always get their money and get away clean. Once sent you can't get the money back.

If somebody only accepts WU he's in 99.9% of all cases a scammer.

Pay him & put a password on it
Let him give the goods
give him the password

Now if he doesnt deliver or give the goods, dont give the password, you get a call after a +- a week that the tranfer hasnt been picked up and you can go pick it up

In my country they request a ID when picking up money, I'm pretty sure that it's the same in every country.

Fake Id's are easily obtained and usually Western Union takes none of the liability for a bad transaction like PayPal does.

alot of ebay sellers wont take paypal from people outside of the usa too great of a risk to be scammed since you can just dispute the paypal transaction once you get your item and there is nothing the seller can do you will get a refund from paypal.

that said its your choice if you trust the seller to send you the item once he gets the $$$.

We've never had any good experiences with Western Union. The people they have working at our branch are morons and never get anything right. We accepted payments for a while using WU, but no more because of the pain in the ass factor and numerous problems.

The scam that I hear about a lot is where the offer to send more than the asking price, you send the goods pay for shipping out of the extra money and the check comes back NSF.

Do people really fall for this?

A similar scam is sending a fake money order for more than the asking price to the seller. Since money orders are pretty much cash the seller will send the goods out right away and the difference left over. 5 days later when the bank finds out it's a fake money order the original seller is out the difference and the goods sold. It usually happens with high priced items such as automobiles and whatnot. Since most of the scams are based out of a country thats not governed by Us laws, it's very hard to get the person arrested or even find that person.

The scam was that western union was making the sender pay, as well as the person recieving pay.

Western Union sucks. If you can use anything else, do so.

While I've never been ripped off by them, they make every transaction (few as I have done) a total bitch to do. The website doesn't always work, the people on the phone are morons, and they act like they are doing you a favor and should be kissing their ass for the honor of using their shitty service.

A few years ago the hot digital camera for pros was the Canon EOS 1Ds. Retail at the time about $8000

For a while several started showing on eBay with "Buy it Now" prices about half of retail.

In each case the seller would only take WU. In each case the seller had a decent rating at eBay (40+ or above). In each case the way the WU was to be sent was strange -- such as sending with a password because the seller didn't have ID, or sending in the name of a girlfriend, when the seller was clearly male, etc.

Everybody that jumped on those deals got burned.

They all lost money, and none got any sort of camera.
