I would be careful with WU, if something goes wrong there is pretty much no way you will get your money back... and it's prefered payment option for scammers... if possible try to pay with credit card or paypal, or get a friend from the US to send the guy a check...

Chris 07-12-2005 10:58 PM

dont do it
if he fucks you
nothing you can do

BlackCrayon 07-12-2005 11:06 PM

WU is the scammers choice method of payment.

Just take advantage of the secret question option. I've always wanted to send a WU to someone just so i could use the secret question option. Let the person know that the answer is Teabagging. So when they go to pick up their WU...

"Now for the secret question. What is your favourite sport?"

Teabagging =\

Classic.

Unless you trust the other party 100%, as in he is a friend or someone you've done biz with in the past; do not send money western union. It's a haven for scammers and money laundering, and illegal transactions. All the other person has to do is a give a fake name or fake biz and he takes off with your money, you will never see it again.

Pete-KT 07-13-2005 07:38 AM

Its a SCAM once you send the money there is no way to stop the payment

pornstar2pac 07-13-2005 07:49 AM

WU has been in biz for some time now. they figured it out.

ask a secret question,

like, how many bullets will I need if you fuck me over? answer. 6

johndoebob 07-13-2005 08:10 AM

Sending money to an unknown person by WU is like burning it, never do it!

Secret question option doesn't mean shit, scammers always get their money and get away clean. Once sent you can't get the money back.

If somebody only accepts WU he's in 99.9% of all cases a scammer.

Look for Western Union description

Dalai lama 07-13-2005 09:35 AM

Pay him & put a password on it
Let him give the goods
give him the password

Now if he doesnt deliver or give the goods, dont give the password, you get a call after a +- a week that the tranfer hasnt been picked up and you can go pick it up

In my country they request a ID when picking up money, I'm pretty sure that it's the same in every country.

nojob 07-13-2005 09:42 AM

Do not trust someone that wants to be paid by WU only.

Fake Id's are easily obtained and usually Western Union takes none of the liability for a bad transaction like PayPal does.

You're right. Either way from all tranfers i've send i only been scammed 1 time :thumbsup

Sparks 07-13-2005 11:17 AM

It's really easy to get fucked through western union... they couldn't care less if you get fucked over so they won't do anything....

I can think of a few threads I could bump right now, but I won't :)

Doc911 07-13-2005 11:29 AM

I've actually only accepted WU twice for work. I've never used it to pay for anything. Probably not a good idea imho

bdld 07-13-2005 11:59 AM

western union would bring up a red flag with me, i tend to stay away from anything other than credit card / paypal

sandman! 07-13-2005 12:14 PM

alot of ebay sellers wont take paypal from people outside of the usa too great of a risk to be scammed since you can just dispute the paypal transaction once you get your item and there is nothing the seller can do you will get a refund from paypal.

that said its your choice if you trust the seller to send you the item once he gets the $$$.

Sarah - GTS 07-13-2005 12:15 PM

We've never had any good experiences with Western Union. The people they have working at our branch are morons and never get anything right. We accepted payments for a while using WU, but no more because of the pain in the ass factor and numerous problems.

johnuglo 07-13-2005 12:56 PM

if you are buying a high risk item from someone only taking wu, then yeah you are going to get scammed. use your head and wu will be fine

Satisfaction 07-15-2005 02:47 AM

thanks for all the feedback guys :)

i might pass on the phone. lol

Satisfaction 07-15-2005 10:56 AM

heh, the phone has been taken off by ebay as well now

EroticySteve 07-15-2005 11:06 AM

The scam that I hear about a lot is where the offer to send more than the asking price, you send the goods pay for shipping out of the extra money and the check comes back NSF.

Do people really fall for this?

A similar scam is sending a fake money order for more than the asking price to the seller. Since money orders are pretty much cash the seller will send the goods out right away and the difference left over. 5 days later when the bank finds out it's a fake money order the original seller is out the difference and the goods sold. It usually happens with high priced items such as automobiles and whatnot. Since most of the scams are based out of a country thats not governed by Us laws, it's very hard to get the person arrested or even find that person.

~Ray 07-15-2005 03:03 PM

I have used it to pay for content... that's about it.

~Ray

pornguy 07-15-2005 03:20 PM

The scam was that western union was making the sender pay, as well as the person recieving pay.

eamedia 07-15-2005 05:29 PM

my friend got owned for 5 grand for a street bike with western union. Fucking owned!

Satisfaction 07-15-2005 07:37 PM

Western union is for 2 things - Ripping people off
Or sending your family $20.
Anything else and there is prly some shadey shit going on

Screaming 07-15-2005 07:45 PM

yeah i wouldnt do it but thats just me

Spunky 07-15-2005 08:02 PM

Yes I have..lost about 1 k ..due to my stupidity..never again!

Dravyk 07-15-2005 09:51 PM

Western Union sucks. If you can use anything else, do so.

While I've never been ripped off by them, they make every transaction (few as I have done) a total bitch to do. The website doesn't always work, the people on the phone are morons, and they act like they are doing you a favor and should be kissing their ass for the honor of using their shitty service.

mrthumbs 07-15-2005 10:03 PM

ive done a few WU's lately.. only with trusted people tho.. like many said in this thread.. no refund or chargebacks on WU's ;)

mrthumbs 07-15-2005 10:04 PM

Wu is the more efficient alternative for sending cash in an envelope.. thats how you should see the service.

webcrawler 07-15-2005 10:07 PM

you can't do anything about it if he scams you.

Satisfaction 07-16-2005 07:04 AM

damn i cant see anything good about this company :/

why do people use it then?

JimmyStephans 07-16-2005 07:16 AM

A few years ago the hot digital camera for pros was the Canon EOS 1Ds. Retail at the time about $8000

For a while several started showing on eBay with "Buy it Now" prices about half of retail.

In each case the seller would only take WU. In each case the seller had a decent rating at eBay (40+ or above). In each case the way the WU was to be sent was strange -- such as sending with a password because the seller didn't have ID, or sending in the name of a girlfriend, when the seller was clearly male, etc.

Everybody that jumped on those deals got burned.

They all lost money, and none got any sort of camera.

Satisfaction 07-17-2005 01:41 AM

yeh sounds about right... this mobile phone was more then half its RRP
