How much did you pay for your DVX 100a?

I'm shopping to get one tonight... Anyone know of sales or specials going on right now?

While the DVX image is better than other small DV cameras it is only for people who want to shoot using manual settings. The auto white balance absolutely does not work and the auto iris is slow and sometimes has obvious shifts.

Also, in progressive mode the autofocus is much slower because the refresh rate is half that of an interlaced camera.

So of you are going to shoot girls in low light at a wet t-shirt contest at club use the Vx2100 or some other DV camera. If you are shooting in a controlled setting then the DVX using manual white balance and iris will give you far superiour results. The auto focus is fine as long as you keep the lens wide and you do not move around too fast. Also, you need to keep your pans a little slower when shooting in progressive so there is not motion studder.

Have done a bunch of research

Just bought some new equipment ourselves. We went with the XL2's because we wanted full res widescreen and better telephoto capabilities for the out of focus background look without going to a mini35 set up. The only thing that I can tell you is that after weeks of searching and screwing around with 1000's of scam artists (aka digital liquidators, etc) we went with B+H Photo. You really can't beat the price by much, if you think you did be very very careful. ICQ me if you want at 202674585 if you would like to chat about it.

XL2 is good also.

You can still get a decent depth of field from the DVX if you use less light so you can open up the iris most of the way while at full telephoto.

I had problems with a few places like that when I picked up my GL2 and my VX1000 back in the day. I trust few of the cam stores, that's why I was asking around.
