..what would you do? would you continue working and even invest part of it in your business? Or call it quits and just enjoy life and chill?

I would invest most and continue working.

Chilling and shopping would be fun for about 3 weeks, then I'd get bored.

There's no such thing as quitting or retiring as far as I'm concerned. I mean seriously, what would you do all day? Sit around, watch tv, go to the beach, travel, see friends? After a few weeks of this lifestyle, I'd be craving to do some work.

- Donate the first million to a few good charitable associations.
- By the mom's & pop's a cool pad.
- Tell everyone to fuck-off and leave me alone, cause I'm going skiing.

Oh yah ... I'd buy you a nice card, a bottle of wine and a bag of dope ... my way of saying thank you, for the early retirement.

With 3 Mill I would take a year off and enjoy the money. Then after that I'd go back to reality and probably invest it in something.

In Australia, you can earn 5% on a savings account no problem. Probably negotiate an even better rate with your bank with that kind of money. I'd just whack that shit into the bank and live on the interest. After tax, with the upcoming changes to the tax brackets, you'd be on almost 100k/year after tax.

I think i'd keep working, but that's what i'd do with the money.

True, but then you could also be a philanthropist and study, work on special projects/goals, travel, adventure.. (tho you'd need more than a $3m base these days to be able to do that without funds running out.. but if you invest wisely enough then it's doable). You wouldn't have to worry about making X amount each month if you're financially secure/independently wealthy.

OR you could be like Batman..

Enough Money = the freedom to pursue the things you want

I started doing the math on what i was spending per month and if i lived to 90 or 100 and factored in inflation. It adds up quick over a 60 year period.

What cost $2000000 in 1940 would cost $26614190.65 in 2005.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2005 and 1940,
they would cost you $2000000 and $150295.76 respectively.

Good answer. Will probably take a while or so to find out what that special interest is. But oyu have the time to think about it and pursue it when you get back

So we can better stop working and pick things up 40 years from now and sell 1000 memberships and be a millionaire !!

But youve got a point.. but if you live by that the money we make now and the 10-20 years to come dont mean shit.

I would buy 66K shares of UST. I would flip half of them in a month and then let the rest ride with the 5%+ dividend.

Your still preaching UST eh Ive been watching it. It still looks like a risky play to me.

Back on topic I wouldn't quit with 3mill. I would strive to double it.

Im over 50 and having too much fun to retire:
- I'd buy a freestanding building, 6-10,000 feet
- build it out to the dream studio
- buy all the cool equipment to rock and roll
- bring in as many cuties from as many places as I can and shoot, shoot, shoot
- I'd invite you to be our in-house stunt cock

Truthfully, I consider myself to be retired from "work" already. This business allowed me to quit my old career and work full time from home, and I hardly consider what I do as "work". Building websites is both fun and interesting to me. Messing around on the net to network and promote is also hardly what I would consider as work.

I am, for all intents and purposes, retired already. I just run websites is all.

So, having $3 mill. dumped in my lap wouldn't change my frame of mind on that. BUT... it would make for a few changes. Certainly I would invest in my business and grow it bigger..... I would invest at least $1 mill into my existing investments.... and I would divide up a good chunk of the rest and give some to each of my immediate family members, parents, brothers & sisters.

...and I would be a little more liberal with what I already give to charity. :D

Honestly, no. 10 million wouldn't change it. Fact remains that if I sold out for a lump sum, I'll be stuck in the same situation. What would I do with all the free time? Now if I'm starting a family, then this changes everything. Spending time to raise a family is something most people would jump at, but I'm not in that situation. In my situation, I like to spend my time working.

The key is to do it in stages. Take a little more personal time and more vacations etc. To go cold turky after working 80 hours a week for years is a disaster.

My ideas on the money. Reduce the time intensive stuff first. but do not go to an all investment income. I love real estate but 2 tenants at 20k a month decide to move and life gets tight. DO NOT ramp up the lifestyle. this is the hardest. Sure you have to treat yourself better but going nuts on houses and cars is the trap. The average person could retire on 1 mil cash if everything was paid for. But we would blow 1/2 on a bigger house and be back working in 6 months. You need the income to be larger then the monthly needs.

Right now just looking to have more time for living and less for working but not giving up shit if I can help it.

Just a heads up but sitting at a computer all day every day is unlikely to get you to the point of starting a family.

What are you talking about? LMAO

with a very safe investment you can make 7% on that, which is $210,000 per year as long as you don't touch the capital.

Are you saying that you can't live on that? (I'm guessing from your post that you certainly don't make that now!)

Shit, I just hit this too. I am very into goals and I hit some biggies. I know, just raise the goals. But making more a month is not the end all is it? I think I am going to visit the remaining seven wonders of the world. Have a decent threesome. Just put some shit on my list that is not all followed with $$$.

Sounds fun indeed, but after doing it a few weeks, I think I would get bored of it.

(I am aware of workaholics and I know they will make-up whatever kind of excuse just to get their butt back to the office.)

A few weeks?
- IF you did one country per day, that would occupy 193-days, so let's write-off an entire year (you might spend more than one-day with some countries)
- IF you only went for the top peaks the earth has to offer, that would take you two-weeks IF you bagged one peak per day (mountains cover around 1/5 of the earth's surface and I'd say it would take you more like 10-years to summit one after another).
As for the deepest depths of the earth?s bodies of water ... I'd say that would take you at the very least five-years (more like 10-15).

I don't want $3M, I want to get it by myself slowly, not suddenly get from you or win in the lottery

I't be a too big schock first and second, I want to know that I earned it by myself. I want to prove something to myself and to everyone else, instead of just winning $3M in the lottery, buying luxury cars and travelling as everyone does

But no, i don't want to work at all, I can't understand people who work 10+ hours daily.

I prefer just 1 hour daily or so and keeping things on auto-pilot, I mean passive investments, like traffic domains that bring steady profits with no work

very honourable.
Being awarded something is different from walking around expecting something (hands open wide waiting for hand-outs).

IMHO

I think the main reason I wouldn't like this so much is I get bored after a while of the same type of thing. My last vacation for example, I went to Caymand Islands, no laptop, no phones, nothing. After 4 days of being on beaches, snorkeling, jetskiing, etc... I was really bored. Even if I tried a different country, its the same type of activities which would become repetitive and not that fun after the initial thrills.
