Do programmers suck at marketing?

I've noticed something from watching message boards. Whenever there is a thread about web design or logo design, it gets tons of replies with links to portfolios and usually a few pics in the thread too.

I've made a few casual posts here, and on several other boards looking for programmers. Never any interest. I sent out an e-mail to a site I found on someone's sig here -- never any reply (hey, maybe it got spam filtered -- but I can't say I've have any problems with spam filters before.)

Short of hiring a full-time outsourced programmer -- which is on my "to do" list for next year, are most programmers full of jobs?

For every good marketing programmer, theres ten that suck ass. I know some HUGE and I mean huge marketing blunders that programmers made, costing them a kings randsom.

A good programmer can make more money writing enterprise or embedded software than dicking around with scripts.

Well, at least this thread didn't make a complete fool out of me (yet)

Maybe I just got that idea from all the years I read Slashdot. Post after post from unemployed programmers -- it just drove me nuts! The occasional post from geniuses like John Carmack kept me there.

I should add, I had this great programmer as a friend. I wanted to hire him to do a small asp thing for one of my sites. He didn't want any money, but in the end he only sent me a half complete project.

The ones that I've used from the boards usually offer coding jobs when they have excess time outside of their webmaster/site promotions activities. If you need a consistent supply of programming time, try http://www.scriptlance.com
