Do programmers suck at marketing?
I've noticed something from watching message boards. Whenever there is a thread about web design or logo design, it gets tons of replies with links to portfolios and usually a few pics in the thread too.
I've made a few casual posts here, and on several other boards looking for programmers. Never any interest. I sent out an e-mail to a site I found on someone's sig here -- never any reply (hey, maybe it got spam filtered -- but I can't say I've have any problems with spam filters before.) Short of hiring a full-time outsourced programmer -- which is on my "to do" list for next year, are most programmers full of jobs? |
I know several programmers (one in particular) who does very well with marketing :)
|
I'm a programmer and I do pretty good with marketing :)
not taking clients though, so heres a bump |
heh, this thread proves your point, it dropped to 2nd page in no time...
anyway, if you ever need work done, hit me up on icq: 33375924 :) |
One thing I know for sure is that I am a good marketer and I fucking suck at programming LOLOLOL!!! ;)

Yes - programmers suck at marketting - thats my downfall.
I'll get there though. |
For every good marketing programmer, theres ten that suck ass. I know some HUGE and I mean huge marketing blunders that programmers made, costing them a kings randsom.
|
Isnt that why you have a marketting department and a programming department?
|
I see you haven't found one yet!
|
A good programmer can make more money writing enterprise or embedded software than dicking around with scripts.
|
Well, at least this thread didn't make a complete fool out of me (yet) :1orglaugh
Maybe I just got that idea from all the years I read Slashdot. Post after post from unemployed programmers -- it just drove me nuts! The occasional post from geniuses like John Carmack kept me there. |
I should add, I had this great programmer as a friend. I wanted to hire him to do a small asp thing for one of my sites. He didn't want any money, but in the end he only sent me a half complete project.

Romero was the real brains in that partnership.

The ones that I've used from the boards usually offer coding jobs when they have excess time outside of their webmaster/site promotions activities. If you need a consistent supply of programming time, try http://www.scriptlance.com
