No new Cold Wars, but the US shouldn't be letting China grow like it is. I definitely don't agree with the foreign policy towards China. I mean, why is the US allowing China to buy US companies? It isn't like another company is buying it out, a country is. Isn't this against what the US stands for? This definitely has to be stopped or it can result in trouble down the road.

A group of friends and I very lightly looked into opening a Lamborghini factory dealership in Shanghai, but China's hilarious "regulations" regarding foreign businesses killed it immediately. We thought we were going to reinvent the wheel after doing some demographic research on China's burgeoning wealthy class...as well as their incredible upper-middle class, which by 2020 will exceed the United States in size if you can imagine that.

Come to think of it, China is like a human TGP in action....all volume, but enough raw numbers that it eventually overwhelms every other competitor.

In short, the Chinese Government decides on so many variables when you set up shop over there that you lose taste in the pursuit of it. The biggest hurdle though was the fact that they demanded 51% State ownership in the business, and majority control. This apparantly is the deal even with large corporations doing work over there, Nokia, Nike, etc. You're basically a minority partner. But it's all your money at risk....

That, and stories of former "partners" of the "State" being forced out of their 49% position killed it.

I don't think the United States will let China take over any country in the area. With the United States' crusade against tyranny and opression, why would the US allow China to take a country over? The US wouldn't even have to step in with its military, all it would have to do is stop all trade with the communist nation and it would start sinking from there. I doubt any other countries would keep trading with China after the US says not to, the US is just too powerful economically to lose for countries that would think of trading with China.

Boeing Projects $197 Billion Market for New Airplanes in China

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] detailed its 2003 Current Market Outlook (CMO) for the People's Republic of China today, forecasting a requirement in China for nearly 2,400 new jet airplanes worth $197 billion over the next 20 years.

China's airlines will add 1,960 new airplanes to serve domestic markets including Hong Kong and Macau. Nearly 440 new airplanes will be added by China's airlines to provide international service.

Regional jets and single-aisle airplanes will account for 87 percent of the airplanes delivered to serve the domestic market. More than 560 intermediate-size, twin-aisle airplanes will be delivered to serve both domestic and international markets.

By 2022, Chinese carriers will be flying more than 2,850 passenger and cargo airplanes, making China's fleet the largest outside of the United States. In fact, China's commercial jet fleet will quadruple in size over the next twenty years.

In 2022, single-aisle airplanes will remain the core of China's fleet, representing nearly two-thirds of the total. Ten percent of the units in the 2022 fleet will be small and intermediate-size regional jets. Another 22 percent will be intermediate-size, twin-aisle airplanes, and just four percent will be 747-size and larger.

The need for new airplanes is required to support a 7.1 percent annual increase in air travel in China from 2003 to 2022, compared to the world average of 5.1 percent. Travel growth for key traffic flows involving China include:

One thing China lacks severly is precision machinery and technology, so they have to buy it from everyone else. They have tried constantly to get into industries that require tight tolerance machinery and fail miserably.

At one point they had a big plan of building jet engines and taking over the market. For a moment it looked scary because they were actually producing jet engines that looked exactly like American and European built engines at a fraction of the cost.

The problem is that they explode after a few runs into a million pieces.

Haliburton decided to outsource part of their machining work to China a few years ago.
That lasted about 2 months before they realized that the Chinese just cannot build quality parts.
Slowly China has scrapped all precision machining plans and now they are back to buying.
This alone has China at a huge disadvantage.

No Navy can assemble enough ships to invade when the country being invaded possesses nukes in the numbers that the US has. I think the idea of government owning business is a damn good one. Think about it, if a government owns a business, or even part of it, they get some of the profits. As a result, taxes stay lower, and the country doesnt have a deficit the size of fat alberts ass. Except of course in instances like the Bush family where they just up the taxes for more money on top of the amount they're already making...any assassins out there looking for work?

Before China will ever get into position to fight with US or at least consider it, it will require to take over most of east-asian countries, once it will put its focus on Jap, India or Russia you will know there might be a treat. w/o rulling asia it won't do much.
a fact that US doing world policing is also considered a possible treat to some other countries so they must take measures for a defence.
