There was one guy that died after getting beaten. All he did was shoplift and got 6 months. The guy was also legally blind.........

I only watched the first few minutes because i'm watching something else at the moment. They were talking about the Abu something prison. I thought the rest of it would be the same, ignore the comments then.

There is a part where some guy hit a guard and after that the guard sat on top of him and beat the shit out of him. Out of line ofcourse but you must know NOT to hit the guard.

Yeah, that kid punched a cop and deserved some smacks in the head..... I think that kid got 30 solid punches to he body. I also agree that it's way excessive.

I am glad you watched some of the video before you opened you mouth

It showed how harsh some prisons can really be even for minors. Some kids even killed themselves cause it was too harsh....

Regarding the documentary, it's a bit sensationalistic, nothing extremely shocking or new. I imagine that working in a prison and dealing with a lot of scum will make people hard

When people mention prison, they think of murders and rapist so they don't really care. Problem is this kind of abuse happens to people who commit petty crimes as well.

I guess the prison guards want to be mean as hell so everyone fears them and they feel more safe and powerful.

It does...and pretty frequently. Of course there is abuse of power with some but then again they are dealing with...for the most part...the scum of society...and they are usually derserving of the treatment they receive. The one joint in Florida they portaryed was a maximum securtiy lock down joint which means the population could not even get along with the regular scum and were the worse of the worst scum.

In California they are called SHU's (Special Housing Units) where trouble makers are housed that cannot live with the general population. For the most part they are almost human.

Okay this has been debated on other threads so I won't spend all day debating it I'll just point out something that those of you who think this kind of abuse is okay are neglecting to consider.

These people will some day get out.

Prison is supposed to be about punishement and rehabiliation or it should be.

What we have now are breeding grounds for monsters. I won't cite the article because it's been a long damn time now. But they article had stated that once someone has served *the number they used* 3 terms they are by that time a sexual offender.

They may not have been before, but they are now. Prison turns them into one because they either rape or get raped...and once they get raped enough they then lash out against a weaker victim whether that is in prison or out in the free world.

So with that in mind, why would you want to send a guy to a place that each and every time he visits it he becomes more and more dangerous so when he does get out the potential for the severity of the crime increases?

This isn't a "liberal" thing. Don't even think about it as a basic human right thing. Think about it as a common sense thing.

First of all i do not live in America, i do not belong to any of their political parties. I am just tired of all this America hating crap that's flying around everywhere especially from Europeans/Canadians, who hate America just because it's the cool thing to do at the moment. I am neutral, i can see past the bullshit and hypocrisy the media likes to fling around. Sometimes i will defend America, sometimes i will put it down. It is by no means a perfect country, but neither is any other country.

Like i said earlier, i do not approve what they do in their prisons in some cases, but there are far worse prisons out there. I will not continue this any further because all i am doing is wasting my time, i have my opinion and you have yours, if you don't like it, go eat a cookie.

When I see this video, I think the point is to show that the Iraqi prison "scandals" shouldn't be considered so shocking in light of what happens back in America. I also am open-minded enough to know that this documentary could have been filmed in just about any country. It would be naive to think that America is the only country with an abusive policy towards prisoners. This crap happens all around the world.

So why not a documentary about Russian, Chinese, Bolivian or Pakistani prisons? It wouldn't likely get enough viewers to bother airing it.

No, not common at all, at least in the three places I've worked. The inmates in those videos probably represent 0.1% of the total population. Truth is most inmates don't get raped and most don't get abused and the vast majority just want to do their time and go home. Most of the time you sit around on your ass and do nothing at all until a code is called. Then there's work to do.

I've worked in the county, federal and now state prison in Jersey.
