If a host was selling you a 100mbps deal and made it a "half duplex" as you state....then wouldn't you notice that when your MRTG never went above 50mbps??
Just doesn't make sense to me how that could be common place, since I can't see someone committing to 100mbps unless they were doing well over 50mbps consistently. ![]() |

That is a great question... In a 100Mbp Ethernet environment when transmission occurs, rate is always 100Mbps. The duplex mode refers to whether transmission can occur *simultaneously* in each direction. When sending data in both directions, a network operating in full duplex mode does indeed have much higher aggregate throughput. So why do most hosting companies not offer a true 100Mbps on a full duplex port? It all comes down network capacity and that boils down to money. Any host offering a full duplex would need two dedicate 100Mbps connections to your server and in the Adult market I do not think that is going to happen often, but that is what a lot of the big players in this market need. Fact is, very few users use 100Mbps both ways.
Its sure a good marketing trick but certainly not much gain for the usuall site that uses most of the bandwidth for downloads. |

I respectfully disagree? we have some clients sustaining a true 90~95Mbps one-way and this would be hard to achieve on a haft duplex port. I though selling someone a half duplex port without informing would constitute a ?good marketing trick?, but that is only my view. Anthony |
