I paid for the content, I pay for the hosting... this is going too far with some programs. When it's either 'spend countless hours needlessly modifying 1000's of old sites' or 'spend 5 minutes to find a new non-US friendly sponsor' the choice is clear.

Marketshare will be won & lost on small points like this.
Look guy, you can keep on and on about this but you aren't changing any sponsors mind. Do you think they haven't spoken to their lawyers specifically about this? Do you think they just said fuck it, we'll try to lose some affiliates today? You can bet your ass that they are following legal advice that they paid top dollar for to stay in compliance with the law.

What if a non US webmaster posts hardcore content on a domain with no whois info? What if they change the whois info to the sponsors name? Who do you think is going to be called when there is a problem.

No matter how much you complain US sponsors will do as suggested by their lawyers. Better safe than sorry.

I've always paid for my own content. And I don't submit galleries/FHG/whatever.

and again....

I hold absolutely NO animosity towards program owners that are making these decisions because they see it as the best legal position to take in order to protect themselves, their models & their affiliates.

It's the guys inconveniencing hundreds of foreign webmasters in the name of 'not leaving their US affiliates at a competitive disadvantage' that irk me.

I don't want anybody to risk jail-time unnecessarily.

Then why are you complaining about the supposed unfairness to non-US webmasters?

Because I'm not just looking out for my own best interests. Many non-US affiliates DO use the free content & free-hosted galleries supplied to them. They should have a voice.

On a personal level, I benefit from every sponsor that makes affiliates retroactively go back & change their pages, that doesn't mean I like to see it happen.

My business also benefits each time a US affiliate or US sponsor gets thrown in jail or has to go through a lengthy trial in both the courts of law and the courts of public opinion, that doesn't mean I like to see it happen.

You should try it sometime instead of your 'I would never use any sponsor that put [me] at a competitive disadvantage' position from the LS thread.
