I am selling my car but I want to know... if the other party is interested in a test drive, whos insurance is he covered under, his or mine? I don't understand really how the insurance works here I guess.

Thanks in advance.

If he has insurance his covers him. If he doesn't yours covers him.

where is captain common sense?

why don't you call your agent... even if 10 people on here replied saying "yah... i'm pretty sure its covered under his" you should still call your insurance broker and confirm

When I was living in CA, my understanding was it was my insurance since it was my car involved in the accident (sort-of like if I loaned my car to a friend and they were involved in an accident, my insurance would cover it). Could have change.

In my state, it is the owner of car. Hope that helps until you check with your agent. I never been asked to show proof of insurance when test driving a car from a private party.
