baddog's tip of the day for single guys #2 (or 3)

It is so hard being a parent . . . don't rush into it. When they are cute little kids it is easy, but then they grow up, and you have to just kind of grin and bear it.

Kind of like most of your parents are doing now I guess.

Actually, I wouldn't say it's easy even when they're cute little kids. On the other hand, I'm 30, been married 6 years and still don't have any kids, so I ain't exactly speaking from experience. I guess I followed your advice even prior to your posting it.

lol DarkJedi will pounce on this thread like a fly on shit...

Agree fully though. There's a reason why all parents dream about exclusive vacations that the kids DON'T get to come on. Something single people don't even have a concept of. They dream about it because there is no nagging, no drama, actual attention on THEM from their spouses for a change, and most importantly...there may even be some SEX!

LOL poor bastards, what is the number of that vasectomy clinic, I think I need to make an appointment...

It goes beyond that. Sometimes they make decisions as adults that make you want to scream, but instead you have to hold it in, and wait until you hang up . . . then you can post about it on a message board somewhere.

Haha, didn't read that rule of yours, but funny you should say that. Fact of the matter is that I was REALLY planning on living the good life as a single guy and not get married until I was 30. Then I met HER and all those plans went down the shitter. Love and happiness isn't something you PLAN for, but you'd be the biggest moron who ever lived to let them pass by just because your plan was to have them at a later point in life.

The reason I say 25 is because before then most people have not learned enough about themselves, or how to be self-reliant. Going straight from mommy taking care of you to having some chick take care of you makes no sense.

Same thing with chicks, going from daddy taking care of you to relying on a guy.

Show some independence, go out and experience life. Fuck your brains out with multiple partners, rather than getting married to the first person that will have sex with you.

Agree. At least 30, if ever. No point to it for a man who isn't dying to have kids, none whatsoever.

I agree fully. Most people aren't mature enough to vote at 25, let alone get married. Hell, most people are never mature enough to vote, but that's a totally different discussion. Anyway, having had quite a little bit of wild life in my days and being far from just flown-out of the nest, I suppose getting married at 23 wasn't as stupid a decision as most would think it would be. Sure, for most people this would seem as the stupidest thing to do. But looking back, I never regreted my decision for a single second and I still consider myself one lucky guy for not chickening out, as most would. Bottom line, if it feels right and you feel confident enough to have a family, I see no point not to do it.

I don't think age has anything to do with it. Some people learn responsibility and real life at a much younger age than most. They are ready to start their "real" lives by the time they reach their early 20s, and do a mighty fine job of it. Others can't even figure out how to wipe their own ass by the time they are 45.
You can't put an age limit on life awareness.

I agree.

I grew up way too fast. I'm like a guy in his mid 30s living as a 21 year old. Yee-haw!

Dog, some people never mature. Look at you!

You play on your bikes, play games with women, play at being a porn webmaster, play at being a don juan, play at being a photographer so you can take pictures of nude women, play at being a blogger, and play at being a pornboard whore.

I hope you don't play at being a father. You said you were a failure as a husband.

So, folks, be careful about taking the dogman's advice. He is living by his father's rule that you should *do as I say, not what I do.*

Missy, you tell him! Baddog is a bit older than most posters and he believes his *senior status* gives him the right to be the GFY board expert on too many subjects.

When it comes to relationships, he should keep his mouth shut. He is a chauvanistic biker guy who doesn't know shit about women, marriage, or relationships.

He does know how to bullshit.

Strange, I have worked with him for a few years and can definitely say he doesn't play when it comes to business. He does and does it very well whether it is taking picture, talking on the boards or working on blogs.

The fact that he can say he was a failure as a husband, would mean he learned from it. And if you really knew him at all, you would know that he doesn't play around the way you are trying to make it sound.

hmm i got 1 kind .. that was great .. got 1 1/2 year later a second one .. and then the drama started :-) .. things becaome 4 times as tough with 2 kids as with 1 ...

Though i wouldn't advice to wait if you want to have kids .. i got both before i'm 30 .. and figure that once they are old enough to live their own lives .. i'm still 'young' enough todo what ever i want .. (well a guy can have dreams)

The point of my post was that the drama does not end with them moving out. My kids are 22 and 21. Being a parent doesn't end at any particular age. They still want advice, and you will still want to give advice.

Whether they opt to follow it is another thing entirely.

Within the past 2 years I've realized my dad was and is right with most of the advice he gives me. I'm sure your kids will pick up on it eventually. Until then, try not to pull the rest of your hair out.

I am lucky, my kids usually make very good decisions . . . just once in a while you have to bite your tongue and say congrats or good luck and then say a prayer under your breath.

This is probably why I still have a full head of hair.
