If Steve is the driving force behind the company and the reason for it's success then yes, he does matter. I've watched many companies (non-porn) get bought out by a larger company and eventaully go under because the drive behind the success of the company was no longer there. Even ones that were smart enough to lock in the driving force for a year or 2 as part of the purchase. Anyone buying the company will need to seriously consider him as a factor..

i would estimate at least $20,000,000 as a lowball estimate. 5 million is nothing these days, especially to retire in your 30s with

very logical, i just have watched over the years from a far and think that lightspeed's brand is so strong now that without steve it can still grow. my opinion is a credit to steve and his crew's investments.

I love ya Steve LightSpeed

Just one thing.
I really have no idea why anyone would buy an adult company these days. It's a volatile and unpredictable industry.
There is no single formula that spells success. The only element of value is the staff and the branding and not even those two things can gurantee success or returns on any purchase over even $500,000 in adult.

Correction disbarring Domains and technolgies, hardware.

I suppose to each there own and with millions at stake it would be my professional opinion for any investor comming into this business to make there own path. It would be cheaper and far less risky.
At best cheaper to start up and create a new brand IMHO.

With no Patents or proprietary properties it makes it even riskier.

Steve wont sell because adult businesses dont command a high enough ratio. Very high risk in this business and a highly volatile environment.

I have no doubt that if anybody can get somebody to lay down the cash it's Evan, but the problem is the perspective of the program owner, it's likely that whatever he will be offered he could make in a year if he kept working hard.... so why sell?

Steve's post sounds like musing

The only way he'd get close to $20M was if a publicly traded company was interested. Affiliates are fickle and not generally held under contract while bringing in the lion's share of the new business.

Not something I can see private money being risked on for a majority stake in active ownership.

All the big players already involved with adult would be better off spending that kind of money on their own existing (or altogether-new) projects.

Exactly. Take Steve out of Lightspeed and you will have to find a similar person to replace him. So not only the money but also a top notch manager is required.

Without it you're buying content, contacts and history.

Do what I'm doing Steve step back from the day to day grind and letting others run it.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Ive been with lightspeed more or less since day one will be funny not to chat with him every now and then if he goes.
Coming up with a sale price would be very hard with walk in walk out deal but anything can be done. Good luck Steve and thanks for all the cash.

its ahrd to find anyone willing to part with that much cash. In the adult biz ya usually have to milk it into the ground, though from what hear from some old time big programs thats not such a bad thing

yeah cuzz in order to have 20 mil in the bank you have to have made 35 mil before tax... and do you really wanna give all that money away.. or could you just build whatever ya want for 20 mil or even 10 mil. I know I spent 2 years thinking on this one myself.

i can hear program owners panting right now imagining what kind of value there is in washing their cb rates downward with a pile of rebills. preservation is only one part of this possible offer that is a sexy politics of fear way to get multiple offers. there are a lot of folks out there who are sitting on plenty of capital and are sick of funding all the douches in mainstream who do not make money and never will.

Best of luck Steve, although I would be surprised to see someone in adult pay more than 6mo-2 years, when a "business" in general can be a much longer period of revenue.
