I'm starting to fear them more and more. Nex-Cash pays me through them. I know that the second that I see that I have money in my account, I'm kicking it into my checking account. I don't wanna be fucked by them.

I had my account restricted, been that way for 6 months. As soon as $ came in my acct, i'd send it to my bank account. maybe that's why they stopped me from using it

Paypal has a great customer support department ... phone them.
Unless the person anwering you on the board is employed by PayPal, you are not going to get accurate information.

PayPal Has far more security measures in place than most payment processors ... they have to ... they are being used 10 times as often ...

You should be greatful that they go to such lenghts to make sure your money is safe.

I bet that if they did not have such securities in place, and somebody somehow emptied your account, you would be singing a totally different tune ...

I have used PayPal to both pay and receive money for well over a year and a half, and have no problems with letting them handle, and even hold my money.

My bank account is insured for up to $60K (standard for Canadian bank accounts), while my PayPal account is insured for 100K (USD at that)...go figure ...

That's totally inaccurate. PayPal is the LEAST safe and MOST RISKY of all payment processors ...

They do absolutely NO SCRUBBING AT ALL ... as evidenced by one widely reported fraud incident last quarter which cost them $6 million alone ... and the lack of scrubbing has been confirmed by other posts on other boards ...

Mostly because of fraud incidents like the one mentioned above, PayPal lost more than $30 million last quarter ...

They are not a chartered financial institution ... because they decided NOT to become one ....

Consequently, they are not regulated by the government like banks and other financial institutions, so there's no protection there ...

So seizing of account monies has become common BECAUSE OF THEIR MASSIVE FRAUD PROBLEMS ... As evidenced by this article, among many others that I could cite ...

http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/20...pal/index.html

Sure, PayPal is cheaper than other payment processors. And people use them because of that, as well as the fact that they don't have to go through the normal screening process to obtain merchant accounts and the like ...

But don't kid yourself about the substantial risks involved ... Or, their future prospects.

Yes ... But did you know that this is the EXACT SAME with both Western Union and American Express ???(I kid you not)

I don't see everybody getting all nervous about dealing with them either ...

All I can say, is that like in any situation, "caveat emptor" must be practised.

If you do not feel secure in dealing with the company, then do not do so ...

Personally, I have trust in PayPal handling my money.

This whole "PayPal - Yea or Nay" arguement has been done here in GFY so many times ...
You will ALWAYS get the skeptics ... but those in favor seem to be far more plentiful.

Tanker ... What you are describing is some card verification. But I was referring to scrubbing in the context of a fraud database that goes much further ... screening out people who chargeback, commit fraud, etc....

To my knowledge they do not do that. The above mentioned article confirms this. A recent thread on another board discussing PayPal's exhibit at the recent Vegas convention confirmed the same ...

Since they recently experienced a $6 million loss due to fraud, that would also obviously confirm that they don't scrub (Reported by CNET, by the way.)

If you want to use them go ahead. I'm just pointing out the risks ... which obviously prompted Teen Angel to post this thread in the first place.

And incidents like Teen Angel's have been reported for over a year now ...

As the http://www.paypaysucks.com site says ...

"If you think, 'That'll never happen to me,' ... that's what these people thought too ..."

Obviously everybody wants cheaper processing with someone else subsidizing the chargeback costs and everything else ...

Fine. I can't blame you. But all I'm saying is that there may be a price to pay in the end ... especially with a company that's losing so much money.

Wanna hear something funny though?

PayPal had a booth at Internext-Expo. Two of us confronted the guy there about why the fuck they were at an adult show if they didn't allow Adult payments, and he said that they, in fact, do.

We pointed him to the TOS which says they don't and he told us that it was in error.

His Email addy (on the biz card he gave me) is [email protected] - might be worth dropping him a line.

I didn't mean to start a debate... obviously I am just concerned about my money!

I would call them but because it is a toll free bumber for america... I cannot use it therefor I can't call them... I may have to get an American to call them and get an international number for me.

I just hope that I can retrieve my money.

I feel really bad for you on this because i am afraid i have to tell you that PayPal froze 2 accts of mine for a total of $14,000 , one acct with $10,000 and one with $4000 over a year ago. There was absolutely no cause for this action and i have been unable to do anything about it even after providing them the faxed documentation they requested. They have just ignored inquiry and have no voice number and will only communicate through autoresponders. I am going to i guess have to pay an attorney probably $5000 to take a shot at getting it back some day. Be careful with pay pal. This has happened to hundreds of people.
Thanks

Whoa, These statements below are entirely incorrect .No offense here, but really everything you are stating is false. It is completely false if you believe your paypal money is insured at all. Just do a google search on keywords "paypal restricted" and you will find dozens of reputable people who have gone to great lengths to prove themselves correct when they debunk paypal and its scheme.
Thanks Sean

Apparently everything that BlueTel says is true. They're not giving people any explanation at all about why they're freezing these accounts.

Some people have pointed out that under PayPal's terms and conditions, they can do this. You also apparently CANNOT SUE them to try to get your money back --- or that's what some of the posts on the boards said.

I use paypal and love them. Over the last year and a half, I have done several thousand dollars in business through them and have had only one chargeback. That chargeback was my own fault for approving the transaction without a verified shipping address. I knew better than to do that but I needed money at the time so I approved the transaction. I have had others attempt claims against me and paypal not only backed me up, but also denied them a refund. People have learned to get things for free by charging back on things they purchase. Paypal makes this impossible if the seller lives up to his end of the deal.

Paypal DOES scrub. Any customer who makes repeated claims against sellers will have their account terminated or restricted to the point that it is almost useless.

If you are putting any decent amount of money through paypal, you should be a premier business member. I typically have $1,000-$2,000 in my account and always have access to it thanks to the ATM card they sent me. So far, I have not experienced any restrictions or any problems getting my money.

ALL HAIL PAYPAL!!

yeah but it plugs all the alternatives.. if someone that has stated here that they've used them for ages and never had a problem pops back on the board in 6 months complaining about being ripped off, then i'll take real notice, and shift from being wary of them, but still willing to do business with them, to joining the condemnation.. until a recent concerted compaign from these two sites i've never heard a problem about them..

Just FYI ... I don't work for any PayPal competitor, any processing company, or anything like that ...

I followed the PayPal issue closely because I was seriously considering them for my own website ... and I did a lot of research on them in the process ...

If people want to use them, fine. I'll quit posting about it. It's just that what happened to Teen Angel has happened to a lot of people ... and some people have lost tens of thousands of dollars --- with no explanation ...

And reports of account seizures ... like Teen Angel's ... have been coming in for about a year now ...

Gee ... you would think webmasters might want to know about potential problems in order to avoid them .... I thought that's what this forum is about ...

But I suppose that unless it happens to you ... And it is too late and your money is gone ... You'll all bury your heads in the sand in the meantime ...

Whatever .... Believe me ... It makes absolutely no difference to me ... one way or the other .... LOL

Hi,
Let me just indicate that i assure you i have no affiliation with any pay services or the related industries. In fact i myself was a avid supporter of pay pal, and still do feel they are the only service that does the kind of size and style of transaction that are needed in that industry. Let me note i was a verified premier business user in good standing , in fact i used only Cash monies transferred from my bank acct directly with the service. I held large dollar amounts in there because i was buying Cisco/SUN type hardware on Ebay and it was very easy to pay with pay pal. No need to detail the outrage its like all the others, basically paypal, just made a pretty shrewd decision based on there number of customers and the rate of interest exhange with there accts. Essentially they knew then as they do now, they can get away with it. For teenangel all i can say is i have never seen a quick or amicable resolution to these "restrictions" and every once in a while i think about it and get upset and spend the night researching only to validate the above conclusion.
Thanks
Sean
