I wondered how long it would take you to reach the boiling point! Now you know how it feels to get blasted on the forums and flooded via email/im...

I met lots of great people, but if I replied to everyone, I wouldn't have had any time to work.

LOL.

I swear to god, I've gone from travelling the world, doing an hour of work and then enjoying a nice meal with friends.....

....to sitting in front of this screen and answering every crackpot with a gmail account.

My income has declined about 4000% in just the last two days, blood pressure has increased in kind, and consumption of wine has gone as high as the price of Paula Abdul's Vicodin prescription.

I'm going back to being the Zen snob that I am, hitting "suprise me" on travelocity's flight planner and jerking off to Stephen J. Hick's latest.

I just have one question

Is every search term with the .com that returns with a certain number of searches per month in overtures tool considered a type in dn?

I'm still trying to figure out how you can be sure it's a type in dn.

Like he said at the beginning, you don't really know the traffic until you test it on your own hosting. The overture tool is exactly that: a TOOL to help domainers make an educated guess. If a domain gets results when searched in OVT with the extension, then do further research. It may be a typo domain. It may be that the .net is a developed site (but surfers mistakenly type in the .com).

I have seen domains that return over 100 results in Overture with Extension and have NO TRAFFIC. I have also seen domains that show no Overture results with extenstion that get tons of typeins. There is no formula. It's more of an art than a science.

:)

anybody interested in entensity.com?

anybody interested in entensity.com? Just check it's overture ranking, 1968. That's 2000. Huge! I've decent offers, but IM me at AOL screenname Electrowerks, if you'd like to chat and make an offer. It's a serious domain for a serious buyer.

Great article - your method is highly inefficient

I am doing the same business as you. Your info is really great, but your process and end result (I would imagine) is highly inefficient. By inefficient, I mean that the theoretical and practical model of a) what kind of names have type-in, b) what kind of revenue-generating programs maximimze the revenue and c) the power of focused portfolios

I don't see the value in having thousands of domains when 80% of your revenue comes from 20% of the properties. Scrap the 80%, I've found a focused domain portfolio to be most pleasant and streamlined.

Also the idea of putting up a generic search page with revenue paid by a company that most likely resells your traffic to a ad buyer is absolutely not that great. It is horribly inefficient. What *is* most efficient is when a domain name with type-in traffic is highly targetted to a revenue-generating online service that pays via online subscriptions. (e.g. adult affiliate programs). These generate far more stable, higher, and long-term profit in my opinion.

But generally, the idea is definitely cool, owning these properties can be lucrative, but I don't see these properties as being as long term as say real estate. I doubt the Internet will be the same 40 years from now, it could change to the point that the model is radically changed so it makes sense that properties sell at lower multiples than real world assets.
